I’ve played him a bit now and he feels vastly improved. When I first saw the re-work I was a bit underwhelmed but actually the overload ability is extremely useful for both escaping and attacking. He can survive on his own much more easily.
I liked the Symm re-work too although I can see why Symm mains got annoyed because her playstyle changed a lot afterwards. Torb however has the best of all worlds in that you can still play him liked before (minus armour packs) but he is way more viable on attack. Also I like how you can still repair the turret as bashing it now and again is a big part of his identity.

I think its better, but overload is a little too much.

There’s no reason why Torb should pump up to a better dps on his primary than McCree while getting 150 instant armour.
A little too much is a bit of an understatement.

Well, you are right. Its simply too much. Turret, basic good weapon, speed, strentgth, armour from a press of a button, honestly i really hate that ability.
Thing is, I think they nailed every other aspect but overload just makes him a beast every 12 - 15 seconds.
Better yes, but he has lost his charm and is now just another boring dps hero. Niche picks should be a thing, but one tricks took those away from us by forcing old torb into comps he did not fit into.

He is a far better DPS but a far worse support and defense hero.
I suppose that was the point though.
- Change base health from 200 to 200+50 Armor
- Change Overload bonus armor from 150 to 100
His base sustain is very lacking, while Overload creates a huge spike increase of his durability, which feels kinda annoying.
Do these changes and he will be fine.

Overload allows Torb to rush turreted Bastions head-on and win. Admittedly Bastion needs help in general, but I still think that makes Overload too powerful. It’s a straight up I-win button against many heroes on the roster because of the combination armor, damage and move speed boosts.
Increasing survivability, damage and move speed at the same time is what Nanoboost used to do, and all three at once was too powerful because the move speed made counterplay nigh-impossible.
I don’t see any reason why Torb needs extra move speed on that ability.
It feels like Overload turns Torb into a tank for 5 seconds. In those 5 seconds he has a choice, does he use his strength advantage to duel people - in which case he has to win because when the ability wears off his health will be dangerously low or does he run away and grab a health pack. These split second choices make him a more entertaining character to play than he was previously when everything he did was defensive. As for a Bastion, you’d need to be fairly close to charge him down when he is in turret mode. However usually he is being pocket healed. Yesterday I charged him and his team immediately nanoed him. Bastion definitely needs the team to support him but if they do he becomes very effective, at least in lower ranks where I play.

he already could do this though >.> people need to understand torb wasn’t this weakass DPS everyone thinks he was. He took alot of aim mechanics and positioning to get the most out of him. his big head and slow walk speed was the main problems. He has even less burst armor then he use to in exchange for more mobility. He’s fine. It’s not to much because he loses 1v1s he use to win and wins 1v1s he use to lose. it was a trade-off nothing more. and don’t even say he was a defence one trick hero. he had more good attack maps then he had defence maps. once you learned to use him properly. I actually find him worse on alot of his attack maps then he use to be.

I still think he was butchered.
3 worse abilities in favor of 3 abilities that were already fun and powerful.
All for a selfish lone wolf playstyle less surrounded around teamplay with and against a torbjorn and for several meager quality of life changes.
Which btw still brings his reload to one of the longest ingame for a clunky gun. Leaves him as still a very easy to headshot target. Also the spread fix on his shotgun is pointless. Its a projectile weapon. Boo hoo if it doesn’t hit as much far range. That was the point!

they should of just gave him the mobility boost when picking up an armor pack like us torb mains wanted. We never asked to give up being able to protected our healer/backline with 75 extra armor. which we have done since the launch of the game. an ideal rework would of been old molten core just a speed increase when grapping the pack and scrap auto picked up perhaps? and then the turret changes are okayish… still need tweaks.

Let me repeat it again:
As an avid Torb player, new Torb is awful. Old Torb was mostly great because of his ultimate, which was able to stop pushes. On the other hand, new Torb is a pushover. I don’t understand why (for example) they didn’t give him additional armor during his ultimate ability.
Sure, he can do a lot of damage with his overload ability, but he has to come close to be really effective. 350 hp at that range is not that amazing, especially because he has such an easy hitbox. If the other team has Hanzo or any other high damaging hero that can aim, you can just forget about playing Torb.
His turret is weaker as well. A tactic with old Torb was to wait until your turret is nearly destroyed, so when you activate the ultimate it’s repaired again through the health boost. Obviously it doesn’t work that way anymore. Similarly, old ultimate was somewhat useful even when Torb wasn’t there, e.g. because he was walking back from spawn. That’s also gone.
Finally, he has less HP. Old Torb needed the +75 hp from his armor pack to be effective - which he could also save as emergency health packs. Meanwhile, overload is on a 12 sec (!) cooldown.
Torb is only good against teams that don’t focus the turret and/or are afraid of shooting him when he has his overload/molten core active. And we are currently talking about QP balance. It’s going to be worse in competitive where teams are just much more coordinated.
Basically, there’s a lot of hidden nerfs often not discussed:
- No turret repair on ultimate activation
- Ultimate is not useful anymore when Torbjörn is not in the fight while turret is still active
- No emergency armor packs
- Precise placement of turret is more difficult, which is important for some spots
- No additional armor/health on ultimate activation (pretty major) - the armor packs got replaced by overload, which gives 150hp - meanwhile, old Torb could store 4 x 75 armor as well as get additional hp when activating the ultimate.

I kind of look at the new Torb as a glass cannon, with a long reload. He can do a lot of dmg but he really can’t take any. His turret goes down in 2-3 shots by most DPS hero’s and if destroyed the CD means it’s down for 13 seconds or more as it also takes 3 seconds to build on top of the 10 sec CD.
Torb himself is a fairly slow 200hp hero where most of hit box is still a head shot even after the reduction due to his size. Almost every tip or trick you hear about Torb is “if you Overload you will win/survive” which isn’t a great way to do things.
New torb is kind of like Old Hanzo, a mediocre hero held up by one good ability, aka Scatter arrow. Overload is really all Torb has and it only last 5 seconds (with the first second wasted on the animation of him raising his arms), and the CD is 12 seconds after that before you can use it again.
4 Seconds of being useful every 12 isn’t exactly a good ratio for an ability that is crucial for Torb to escape, survive, and do enough dmg to kill most hero’s. Oh and his reload is still insanely slow if you fight more than one enemy at a time.
Worst of all people are already crying to Nerf Overload which imo will just take him right back to trash tier.

McCree is much easier to aim with though overall imo. Torb is projectile.

Mcree is also far more mobile with a 6 roll, that also reloads. Instant hit scan DPS vs a fairly slow projectile that has one of the more extreme arcs in the game is no contest imo.
Oh and Torb’s reload is I think still the second worst in the game, only behind Orisa.

I can no longer tell if a late torb switch is throwing and no one tries to use him to justify solo heals anymore. 100% success in my book.

You realize this guy took the role of dps right?
The only time he was ever seriously used in the pro scene was in solo support comps on numbani first defense, and people will look for every reason they can to justify a trash tier pick to keep their team from tilting.
Meanwhile no DPS is gonna switch off to accommodate a Torb, and he wasn’t particularly good at it either, or anything for that matter. People would also switch to 5/6 DPS because he was on the team regardless; end result either way is a lot of solo heals.
