Torb changes mean death to defense characters

The current changed being mentioned (losing molten core, throwable turret, and making him offense viable) very much say that all characters who were defense characters are being made more offense viable. It’s why Sym went straight to damage class instead of defense.

Overall, this means the death of classes more made of defense. Can’t wait for a Bastion change, or Junkrat change.

I feel like Junkrat’s previous changes already made him less a defense character. Before he had self-damage removed, I always used him for mid-range combat and mainly used the mine to push away enemies that got too close to maintain that medium range. Now with two mines and no self-damage, he jumps into the enemy’s face and fires away fearlessly, with an extra mine for damage to boot. I don’t mind changing characters to make them more viable in more situations, but I feel like they’re shifting the entire game away from a playstyle that I personally enjoyed.

Defense class isnt a thing, there isn’t such thing it was just a term used to separate characters for new players

You didn’t get that memo after they merged the offense/Defense categories?

Weren’t they still testing changes ? The devs said that these are all ideas they’re trying ,torbjorn was still heavily in flux when they posted that ,unless there was a new announcement I’m not aware of.

The death of the defense class came when Widow was able to end fights before they began. Torb might have been the last hold-out, but it was well on its way out. Junk was hardly ever “defense only”, the snipers, not so much. Mei…is awkward. Bastion depended on how you used him, and the payload made him a decent attacker. Symmetra was the only other character that should have been in the Defense category. So we’re left with the fact that Torb was always the only character that was only good on defense.

It’s a good direction to take. When you have an ongoing problem of people one-tricking “throw picks,” perhaps the solution is to make it so there aren’t any characters that are terrible for half of each match. Torbjorn is the last one fitting that description.

The “Defense” category in general was never that much about defense. Most of the characters in that category are better on offense than on defense.

Defense was never a thing, ever since day 1 it was proven that the defense category was worthless and a design flaw.
Moving past that design is necessary now that it’s gone

Yeah, Defense never really meant anything anyway. The only people it meant anything to was characters like Torb and Symmetra who had buildables that were better when they could be set up to wait for people to stumble into. And now they are trying to make them less reliant on that strat.

The rest of the characters in defense were always just kind of nebulous.

They’re gonna ruin Bastion even worse than he is now, I just know it’s coming.

They’re reworking him[Bastion]? Cuz I honestly think he’s in a decent spot. A little OP against people who walk out in front of a not-so-mini-gun and/or can’t hit the broadside of a barn, but definitely not invulnerable on any map once those things are mastered.

What did I just read?..

Took you until they proposed torb changes to figure that out? Not the removal of the defense class?

I swear to god if they end up making Molten Core an ability then they have no hope

Hope they make bastion viable in 2CP attack after torbjorn rework

Forgot I even posted this for a moment, sorry to everyone who thought I spoke and ran.

Yes, they are making his gun auto-build, and it can be thrown.

Defense class did well in separating characters in what they were best at. This means that all damage type characters will be blend together to all function exactly for the sole sake of damage.

You can run him as pirate ship captain or set up sneakey flank cores on 2cp.

For an already capped KOTH map he also does well.

High skill torbs can pull this off no problem.

Though, to be fair, all of these methods are still someone defensive as their more about zoning control than capturing.

Word! I can’t believe I missed this!!!
