yup. this is what happens when the devs and community agree that “tanks have to be op or else nobody would play them”.
it’s a broken game. it could be good, but they choose to hold it back instead of fixing the root of the problem. everyone is aware of the elephant in the room, so what’s the point of taking the game seriously? skill rank means nothing.
Without seeing how you play this is going to be very generalized advice.
Kill the enemy team more. Like a lot more. A lot of low rank support players think that support is the spectator role when in reality they are dps who can also heal their team. Your damage should be slightly lower than your dps or about the same depending on the character and enemy comp. As a support its vital that you learn to be as bloodthirsty as your dps and tanks during your matches.
The key to doing this is timing, awareness and positioning. Sometimes that means letting your team mates die because they were poorly positioned. Go into your games with the mindset that “the best defense is a better offense” and you will be amazed how much easier your matches become.
Oh yeah this becomes a lot less effective if you are playing Lifeweaver, mercy, and juno.
I’m sorry, but you can’t judge that.
You thinking there are “losing games” is already part of the problem.
Same here.
Play the game, focus on yourself.
You are hurting yourself with this.
I would suggest getting actual coaching, but stop thinking things like "my matches are unwinnable.
No game is predetermined.
The lower you go the less likely players are to know how to maximise win conditions. So some times, they just miss easy chances to win fights/games.
If you are doing all of these things it would be impossible to stay in gold. You are probably doing these things in the way you think you are supposed to, but if you were you wouldnt be in gold (i don’t say this to put you down, but more so to give you the reality of the situation).
I think you should consider doing a VOD review so someone can show you how to get more value. A few replay codes would be helpful.
Have you tried nailing your life ending abilities?
Yeah i get so many games where get rolled in the first round/lose two points. Then we do a full hold and push it all the way. And ofc the opposite also happens.
The idea that someone can predict the outcome after a couple of fights?
Its honestly laughable. I think its mostly an attitude issue. People give up, lose confidence, don’t commit to fights and start playing for stats.
This is a game where a fight can be turned if you hit one more shot/ability. Its like they’re saying they played so unbelievably good that they didn’t whiff on a single opportunity that could’ve made the difference. I doubt it. You just got to lock in and sync up with how the rest of your team is playing.
Basically every steam roll is a player creation. Be it positioning, lack of effort, whatever.
Games where you stem the tide and turn it around are evidence of this that people just ignore.
The ones that keep rolling and end totally onesided, are always because multiple people in the team just give up.
No issue if that’s what they want to do. But they can’t then blame anyone except themselves. If you do throw the towel in and give up, at least have the balls to own it.
They try, and thats part of the problem.
Because if you make yourself (or even your teammates) believe the game is lost, you’ll play worse (actively or subconsciously).
Its very common what i’ve seen in mid/low ranks. If they lose first few fights in “decisive way” some people easily go “gg its over”.
It’s just a mentality check. Also Push is imo the biggest “mentality check” game mode, which is probably why low rank people dont like it.
They easily think its impossible to come back while blizzard’s data about it was that that game mode has the most of close games.
It is imo same thing that people in those ranks often swap heroes when they lose one fight, even if the match is going well for them. And they swap often to their detriment.
don’t worry, I get similar games in masters as well. The matchmaking of this game is hot garbage, that’s all there is to it.
“As a support its vital that you learn to be as bloodthirsty as your dps and tanks during your matches.”
This is probably the best phrasing for this I’ve heard. Knowing when to focus healing and when to try to squeeze in those shots to help finish off a kill is the most difficult choices you need to make in support games.
whelp thats more intelligent than anything the devs have done so im promoting you to lead dev
(to be clear i think there are good ideas, that are all implemented in the dumbest ways possible, like the meme of the guy kickflipping a rake down the stairs))
Kind of a pointless statement to make don’t you think? Sure, players are responsible for their skill and game sense level, but the matchmaker is responsible for creating fair matches and placing players where they belong. If one team has players who understand positioning better and have superior mechanics, there is nothing the other team can really do in the time of a match.
Why should players expend mental resources and effort in a match that is against all odds? Why should they own that outcome? Maybe you’re not playing the game enough or at the level where you can observe this often, but mid metal ranks are horribly balanced 90+% of the time. Smurfs, boosters, throwers, trolls, blizzard making it too hard for people to rank up so their skill level is way higher than their current rank, many reasons.
It’s easy to blame the player, but you shouldn’t. This game has abhorrent matchmaking.
Very well described.
The match maker NEEDS to do better. The games I get is 90% unwinnable, or too ez.
very very few matches are “fair” and close.
Like when I just lost 12 games ina row… HELLO "??? what are you doing mmr ??? WAKE UP !!!
In gold/silver ? When I used to be high plat??
But still lose because you put me against +500SR difference SR ?
Nice nice …
Creating fair matches. Yes. Which it does.
It isn’t responsible for putting you “where you belong”. That’s between you and MMR.
Agree. But, you’ll of all had around the same MMR. Which means you’ll of all won enough games to get to that MMR. So that is more likely down to performance than skill.
A bad games doesn’t make a bad player and all that.
And here it is. The self fulfilling circle. You get into your head game is working against you. You give up. You lose. And that becomes proof the game worked against you. When in reality, it was you that created that look by mentally giving up.
As always. If you think the game is giving you unfair games. Uninstall. Stop giving them your time and money. It isn’t happening, but you have the ultimate power at the end of the day. If you keep playing. It probably wasn’t that bad and you’re more likely to just be angry about not playing that well.
Occam’s razor… Look it up.
Also. In every PvP game. The root cause of pretty much every problem, are the people who participate is said game.
The match making is just matching you based on a number. A number you’ve earned by winning and losing games. There the only things that change that number. So if you don’t Ike the matches you’re getting. Win more often.
You cant coach this game anymore. Matches are predetermined wins and losses. People would come to me with vods. I had to quit helping, they would always be set up to lose no matter the skill
Sounds like you’re not a very good Coach then.
How exactly does this work?
Does it literally just end and give the win to a team?
I did recently coach a guy on Doom and he hit t500 in one season. Nice try tho.
The game creates matches to move you up or down based on your hidden mmr. It will give you teams that give an 80/20 60/40 chance of winning.
A 3rd are forced wins, a 3rd are forced losses, the last 3rd of games are skill based
In those losses theres nothing you can do at all. So just play to not die and go again.
