I know when you come across someone who’s better than you it suck, I get it. You feel like no matter what you do you’ll never win, but do you want to know what’s worse than a Smurf? Just straight up giving up. I bring this up because I had my teammate sit there and complain about this Smurf. Went on about how this Smurf cost him 3 matches, so after all that crying my teammate just stood in spawn, emoting… In a rank match. After he just spent good while crying about how he’s losing… The thing that’s the funniest is the Smurf wasn’t doing anything special… basically like any other plat player.
If you’re like this… don’t ever complain about a Smurf because honestly you’re worse. If this how you’re going to act when someone is better than you don’t ever play a completive game. Complaining about your last match doesn’t help the current game, all you’re doing is being obnoxious. Instead if you’re losing to a “Smurf” and you know you’re going to give up just leave right when match starts. Save your teammates the SR and save yourself from being completely broken even more just because someone is better than you.

One time I went against a 4.5K widow back when I was in diamond, and we still won by working together. Any game will always be winnable

i love beating smurfs with my rein. One smurf who was trash talking my friends kept doing it after his team prevented us from getting to first point rialto. I told my friend to trust me and help me on rein. They never made it past the bridge XDDD. And he kept trash talking me saying, I suck and his team is worst, lmao

I tend to get kind of tilted…i dont go toxic…i just do snarky comments in chat at the end of the match regardless of outcome that clearly shows how salty i am

I can’t really comment on fighting Smurfs or Smurfs are unfair really, anything I would say is mostly biased. Reason being is I don’t run into a lot of Smurfs. Think out of the 17-20 games I played today I ran into 1 Smurf who wasn’t doing anything special. Most of my losses come from either the enemy team is performing better or my team just couldn’t get it together.
I’ve beaten impossible level smurfs before but its really a coin flip whether or not you even get to SEE the objective in these sorts of scenarios. At this point i think i want to just try to find a new match instead of dealing with a horribly unbalanced game.
I get no joy from beating smurfs anyway, its a hollow victory for me.
smurfs aren’t much of an issue on the PC though. it’s mostly in console where people can make unlimited accounts for free with just 1 copy of the game

I beg to differ, since there are two types of Smurfs:
- Second Account, Alt Account Smurfs. With the game as inexpensive as it is now a days it is really easy to buy a 2nd (3rd, 5th, etc.) account for PC.
- Deranked Smurfs. I’ve seen Top 500 who had deranked to Gold on down to Bronze.
Neither version of Smurfs, in my opinion, are acceptable in a Ranked game.
When a ‘4235’ player smurfing as a Widow and gets dominated by Ashe and BOB from Plat.
Then proceeds to flame his team, and mine, and then be reported by all 11 peeps. I celebrated getting PoTG and roflstomping him with my butler.
Remember kids: Getting toxic/angry makes you worse.

As much as I hate smurfs, most often than not, a match is winnable.
Back in season 12 when I was still learning the game, I came across a duo of high masters in lijiang tower. They were playing widow and tracer. So the first round was extremely one sided and we couldn’t cap the second point until it was ~80%. However, somehow our lucio was giving calls after calls and entire team actually worked together. We won the match and it was one of the best matches I had in OW.
However, smurfing is bad when you consider that there are people who’ll intentionally derank to stomp on people/new players. It’s really not fun to be a new player in the game and going up against someone who has hundreds of hours in the game.
However, OP, I agree with you that a lot of times people are just really trying to find an excuse to give up. We don’t have 2 2 2? Time to throw, we’ve got an widow (or any character you don’t like), time to throw.

Dood, come to quickplay this week. You’ll find literally 1 smurf each match.
It doesn’t matter if I win or not. Someone is doing something they know they shouldn’t be, in order to upset people and harm the game.
It’s about the intent. There is nothing good or even neutral about it. It’s just 100% a jerk move.
There’s only so much of it you can see and go against and respond with ‘they’re just an idiot’; because it’s so prevalent and there’s a whole toxic culture around it that we could all enjoy the game that bit better without.
