It will never happen. Blizzard went to a 5v5 solely because no one was queuing for tank, increasing queue times for everyone.
We still see that queue times for tanks are the shortest hence there is no way devs will go to a 6v6.
The one scenario where 6v6 is viable is if role queue is removed but I also don’t see that happening.
Whether 6v6 is more fun or 5v5 is debatable. I find 5v5 more enjoyable and the game’s balance now is better than it’s ever been, if I compare to the OW1 days after brig was released. Yes there is more that can be don’t but it will happen over time.
Let streamers and pro’s balance 6 v 6, so the 5 v 5 remains the official developer balanced game mode. Boom, blizzard gives some bones to the community, by giving some control to the representatives of it.
6 v 6 won’t take much resources from the devs that way, they just make the tweaks to the codes after they’re told what to balance where.
Boom. Everyone is happier. Everyone gets the game mode they want. All the players who quit because of 5 v 5 may return, while those who prefer 5 v 5 stay. Boom, player numbers rise, Blizzards profits goes up.
Queue times were only a problem because of role lock. A pick/ban draft system would have been better. Pick/ban would have stopped goats, don’t want to play against goats in high elo? Ban brig or moira or both.
They went 5v5 to justify the 2. Something we all knew but someone found confirmation of that from only 6 months ago.
It has never been a format issue, only a hero kit issue and refusal to actually nerf the support role which causes all the other problems.
We are in the same release cadence as OW1 with less quality content and less stuff to actually get for free because f2p games are not actually free. They are scams.
Funny you say it’s the sole reason when, apparently, it wasn’t any reason at all.
Yes, I got that from a Samito video, laugh if you must. Also sidenote, I’m pretty happy that the 6 minutes he states is very close to my own estimate from a few weeks ago Science!
Why just take these at face value and not ask “why”??
Nobody wanted to play tank in OW1 because they abandoned the game for years and left tanks in a stale state with a boring Meta and no new content. Players avoiding tank as a role had nothing to do with there being 2 of them on a team lol.
People don’t want to play tank now because the role feels unrewarding and frankly it feels lonely playing tank. Playing tank right now just feels like you’re a punching bag for the enemy and for your own team at the same time.
I bet, most of these “Bring back 6v6” hadn’t even played 6v6 in their life and the rest are just goats or ds enjoyers which are cringe metas with 0 skill expression.
Fewer people want to play tank because playing tank sucks. It’s not because they’re weak, or they’re not “tanky” enough. It’s because playing tank in 5v5 is not fun. I stopped queueing tank completely in OW2, and I’m not the only one. By going to 5v5, they just made the problem worse because now even fewer people want to play tank than before.
Back then tank role was very limited hence why it wasnt popular.
Now with the addition of doomfist, ram, junkerqueen, mauga along with the reworks, the tank role in 6v6 would have a lot of synergies and diversity of gameplay.
On top of the game being abandonned for a long time update wise, lowering the population even more.
And anyways…5v5 doesnt feel good so even with linger dps queue times its better to wait for a good experience than ending up in a crappy experience quicker.
