To all of you who says Valorant is going to kill Overwatch

Why do you have to choose between the two games? Do these people realize that they can play both games right?

Personally i will play with both games as much as I can. :nail_care:

Though the playerbase will drop resulting in longer queue times, correct?

They might drop a little bit for a little while, but I really don’t think there will be any big change for the majority of people.

The worst case scenario i could think of is:

Part A of the playerbase starts playing Valorant
Result -> Queue times go up

Part B of the community gets fed up with long queue times and decide to play Valorant.
Result -> Queue times even higher and game slowly dying

Part C of the community will go: ???
Might leave, might stay.

Of course worst thing that could happen from what i could guess.

It won’t bother Overwatch, they are different games. It’s basically Siege with less heroes and limited to PC, but it’s free

It’s a snowball effect, there’s only room for so many large AAA games with active player bases, especially in the eyes of like, fandom things. For people to be heavily invested in a game and spend money on it reliably, keep supporting it, want their friends to play about it, talk about it online etc. they have to like it a certain amount. They need to be engaged with it a certain amount.

Like, I really love Stardew Valley - but I don’t play it anymore, so I don’t talk about it anymore. I don’t post on the forums or engage with it. The more people who participate with Valorant, the less relevant Overwatch will become, and no it will not be a ā€˜sudden death’ but more a slow walk down a staircase. I’d wager they’re already about 1/3rd down the flight of stairs at the moment, based on twitch viewership and general popularity in fandom spaces being all but nonexistent when it used to be decently healthy.

I mean probably most of playerbase who are going to ā€œleaveā€ or play Valorant more are most likely going to be the DPS mains. And that would mean faster queue times for the DPS players.

Not everyone owns a PC.

Yeah honestly this, as a support player I’ve been playing a lot of the Valorant Beta, I would play a lot more of it if the games* weren’t so long lmao.

This: sometimes I get fatigued and casually walk into a room with 3+ laser dots pointed on my head. I swear I am not feeding to get the game over with

I can confidently say that Valorant is not going to kill the game
Honestly, I think it’s cs:go but worse
It tries to be a jack of all trades master of none
It looks like it’s a PS3 game too
I think it’ll be another apex
It’s popularity will artificially bubble, then it will pop

I don’t remember apex getting 1.9M viewers on twitch nor Overwatch dropping to 9k viewers at the same time. Chess was beating overwatch in viewers ffs.

I choose, took one look at this game Valorant and said no ty. It looks like a mobile shooter. Its ugly and slow.

That’s affecting every catagory, not just ow
People are streaming Valorant because it’d be stupid not to
Beta key drops draw in a lot of views

It’s not really affecting siege, it’s numbers are the same. Someone called it a siege clone which isn’t even true considering the aiming in the two games is completely different.

Why are even still discussing this random game

Because for some reason people feel the need to make a post saying that Valorant won’t kill overwatch. Like this isn’t solving anything. I’m thinking of leaving overwatch for it, I know a lot of other masters players thinking of leaving too. Tons of overwatch pros are quitting and playing Valorant, you can’t look at all this and say ā€œit will barely affect overwatch. I hate dps mains anyway I don’t want them in overwatch to begin with.ā€ Valorant will impact overwatch numbers simply because blizzard has failed for the past two years in their game, it’s just overwatch never had any competition. I hope Valorant can finally kick blizzards *** into gear and make this game fun again.

That may be the case for a small period of time, however, there are a large number of people who play tank or support (including myself) that see that would prefer to play DPS but will not because of the current queue times. There will be an influx of players moving to the DPS role because of the promise of shorter queues. This will likely result in restoring the playerbase role ratios to what they are. The only benifit to queue times we might see is the change in the ratio of number of players to active OW server instances available. (Though there is no way to predict how that will affect queue times.)

There is a general preference in the FPS genre that the player will be the one doing the killing. Unfortunately, with tank and support that is not really the case. The dive tanks can get kills but when you are in a meta that requires the use of ā€œmainā€ tanks, the role becomes stagnant and boring, plus there is a lot of pressure on the tanks to be the ones in control of the push. This makes the role less inviting.

There is no simple solution and it will take much smarter people than I to try and solve the queue time issues.
