What if competitive matches had an AI hero take over for players who left the match? Would this make the game more fair or unfair for all of those involved?
The match is already ruined when someone leaves, so why not try to rebalance the scales so the unbalanced team still has a chance of winning?
Maybe every time the bot dies, a dead player can pick what hero the bot should be. If no players are dead, the bot will respawn as the same hero.
I think this feature could seriously improve the quality of the experience. In my opinion, it could help make the game feel more fair and fun to a certain degree. It’s a feature that would take a lot of fine-tuning to get it just right, but it would be worth trying at least.
I’m curious to hear everyone’s opinion on this topic, so please leave a comment with your thoughts.
Cheers!
People would get bullied into leaving, and believe it or not, the bot would play better than some players out there

I mean why not. They would still play just as awful by running into the enemy all alone.

Some cassidys in aim trainer go brrrr.
it’s aimbot so they’d be better than Wanted.
If bots took over after leavers then the team that has more leavers will always win. Because I swear a lot of them players are far worse than bots. Also bots follow pings if I remember it correctly.

I’d rather not have Bob or a walking Turret join competitive games predicated on the many, many human to human interactions.
i see a few issues with this right off the bat
1; how would the bot be adjusted based off rank of the game?
Because it’s either going to be too weak meaning the enemy team can easily farm it for ult charge or too strong meaning it destroys the enemy team and therefore it’s not a fair game
2; how would the bots abilities/ults work?
OW is all about synergy and making the most of abilities and ults. You have a zar with a bot hanzo? Or an ana with bot genji? How can you ensure the ult combos work as it would with a human instead of a bot?
Or does it turn into just playing around the bot because the bot isn’t playing around the humans
I can think of a few others but those are the main concerns I have

Replacing one Npc with another doesnt help
This question always pops up every other month.
Yeah thats what we want a bot feeding ult charge
Absolutely 110% not for comp
Maybe in QP though at least until a backfill became available.
If you want an example, look to Halo Infinite for one. It’s a mixed bag, and for good reason as represented in Casual matches it’s not in Comp.

I don’t dislike this idea, though I think the AI would need something that makes it stick with the biggest group of players; target who the most players are targeting; a way to prioritise healing targets in a meaningful way; a way to determine who’s doing the most damage to the team, perhaps, to prioritise taking them out… I don’t think it’s impossible, just difficult, it’d be hard to balance and make right, and fair, because I don’t think ‘aim bot’ is the way to go. and, yes, while bots listen to pings, I don’t think being distracted by a million pings and confusing the bot with ‘enemy here! no, enemy over here!’ is going to work out for this.
The DPS or support gained from them just being there is better than nothing, though, which is why I don’t think it’s an awful idea even without specific tactics programmed in. But, I’m not sure how much it’s really going to do without an incredibly complex AI, so…
…I think the age-old idea of selecting that you’re happy to backfill would be more useful, maybe for a few extra comp points or SR (if that’s even calculated anymore) for being a ‘good sport’ and having to pick up where someone else left off.
