Tips for climbing please ☺️

I don’t play a lot of comp and was high bronze for a lot of seasons. I finally climbed to silver two seasons ago but I’m scared to do my placements for season 22.

I usually end up clashing with someone else’s play style. I had a match in which the Winston was trying to run dive but no one else joined him. We ended up winning the match but it was really close.

Next season I’m going to try to get enough points for a gold gun but I’m scared of losing so much sr that’ll take me many seasons to get back up. I try reviewing replays but most of my mistakes were thinking I had teammates to team fight with but they were all dead.

It seems as tho I try my absolute hardest but I always get at least one person that’s not doing as much as everyone else. Depending on what they are playing, it can ruin the team comp.

It gets worse because I’m scared to turn on my mic. I’m not great at talking through mics n’ stuff so I usually keep it off. It means I can’t hear or communicate with my teammates so I rely on them to work together so I can help the team.

At this point I’ve kinda given up on trying to climb so I wanna at least try and get tips.

Focus on what you can do as a player. Sure, Teamplay is important, but if you can’t play as a Team, you need to focus on what you can do yourself, no matter what.

This all depends on what Hero you’re playing.

The problem is that I’m sometimes put in a role I don’t play. I was placed super high bronze this season for tank since I’m bad at tank which means that I was working on my tank a lot. People in bronze play who they want so I had a tough time trying to fit the team comp so my teammate didn’t need to switch. I played a lot of sigma which is my third best tank. I’m not great with him but I tried my hardest.

Bad advice here but, insulting and blaming your team, even if its true, is not healthy for improving your skills as you don’t learn anything and you just end up always playing the blame game instead of trying to say: “Ok, what could I have done better this game?” or “What could I have done to help our chances at winning?”

the most important thing to climb in overwatch is to play consistently. if you don’t play often, you will become rusty quickly and you don’t become better when you’re rusty.

You should stop worrying for your SR and just focus on getting better at the game. Why do you think high rank players buy smurf accounts? Because they are confident that they can get all that SR back to where they belong.

If you actually improve to a point where you blong in gold, then you will get there eventually, even if you got a few bad games here and there.

Sometimes it’s hard to find what I did wrong because of our mess of a team. I have played matches as shield tank when we are all spread out. I try using the group up button but no one listens. I try my hardest to adapt to the team but sometimes I fall short.

know when to stop, if you feel like you’re on a losing streak either switch to a different role or take a break completely from comp games, doing so helps with taking away stress and lets the matchmaker not set you up with dealing with same teammates or opposing players

Okay, well, I am the worst person to ask because I am allergic to winning. However, given your specific problem, the solution is relatively easy.

Just play more competitive. It is that simple. Who cares if you drop, that is just easier access to gold gun points as you climb back up. You earn way more from playing than you do at the end of the season until you start hitting master, basically. Seriously, do the math. Those bonuses are negligible for 95% of the playerbase.

You get anxious, the only way to overcome that is to just dive in. I am not sure people would like me recommending that you do what I do and treat competitive like QP… but that would likely make you feel more comfortable. Just join chat and if you start feeling uncomfortable, leave it. It is fine to just listen and you are not obligated to stay if they start acting weird.

Another thing, stop trying to find the weak link. First of all, one person does not throw a match despite what people claim. If that were logically feasible, solo carrying would also be possible and plenty of bronze to GM challenges prove that even the best of the best can rarely do it consistently once they do not have a huge SR advantage. Ergo, for one person to be an active detriment that was the sole cause of a loss, they would need to be 3 or more ranks below the standard of play.

Yeah, sometimes your team may let you down and it’s kind of their fault still, but I’ve tried to focus alot more on my mistakes and its helping me imrpove.

What role/heroes do you like to play most?
My advice is to stick to 1 role for atleast a little bit, it’s much easier to improve that way because you wont be overwhelmed. Plus, the more comfortable you get on 1 role, the more you will slowly begin to filter out the “Noise” aka, all the things that You specifically cannot change.
This makes it a TON easier to improve because it allows you to focus on yourself.

I play everyday… I’ve had some bad games in QP lately which makes me kinda scared for season 22.

I’m always on a losing streak XD. That’s mostly why I don’t play as often. I try to get a won game occasionally.

It’s not their fault. I just didn’t get their attention :P. Might be better if I joined vc but I really don’t like that idea.

I’m a support main but I actually have higher sr on my damage. I usually play my weakest role til I get even sr. This means I play tank a lot since it’s my worst role.

Climb with other people. No matter which role, you’re going to need another to actually get somewhere. At the very least have a duo with someone else.

Also, see the timing. I would rather not climbing during weekends since players are most likely not serious about playing (and the amount of trolls and throwers is higher during weekend.)

Practice to improve is also important, but I think timing is even more important. So, find that golden time that you think would land you good teammates with no throwers.

My point still stands. Don’t solo queue. I wouldn’t even risk it as a DPS. And that is the most independent role in the game.

I end up solo queuing since I don’t use my mic. It’s not like I can play with a duo without talking to them.

lol no don’t say that!! ultimately if you feel like you’re getting upset it’s best to stop playing.

you should try queueing with a friend or maybe lfging. after a good match ask if anyone is interesting in playing together or something

You can, actually. Most of the players I duo’ed with didn’t use mics. You could still chat with them after all. You could search for a duo in discord and other platform. Tell them that you need a duo that is comfortable with not using mic.

Play Rein/Mccree/Moira

All easy, and you just hold primary or tap secondary. Basic ults that have some good potential and charge fast.

While all tanks require decent coordination, these 3 require the least. They also are neither punishing nor complex. 55% winrate over 20 hours will do the trick if nothing else

I don’t have discord :/.

Best tip I can give you.

Be lucky.

Like for real though.

Good decisions on your part will constantly be mitigated by bad decisions by your teammates and/or your games as you climb will be bombarded by smurfs and hackers.

Self improvement can help but none of that really makes a major difference until you get to masters where people start to have a consistent understanding of how the game should properly be played.

Only other thing I can really say is get with the meta since by it’s definition, it’s going to give you the best possible chances of winning from a hero-selection standpoint.

If you truly want to improve by means other than just taking some advice and practicing a bunch, go watch back replays of your games and make note of the mistakes you made - both in fights that you win and lose. Make a mental note of these behaviors and correct them in future play.
