Tips for anger management

How am I supposed to hold my tongue when I get more damage done than both my dps combined? And I wasn’t throwing as tank either, because I had more damage and mitigation than the enemy tank. I proactively searched and killed the enemy supports without dying as often as I could without sacrificing my own teammates.

I’m not allowed to tell them how to play the hero they pick properly because its seen as “Let me tell you how to play because you suck.”

I’m not allowed to tell them that we need a new hero because its seen as "You’re playing like s*** switch to a new hero.

I’m not allowed to be mad at losing because its “Toxic.” I should instead grin and say “GG” even though I did better than the enemy team meaning my loss is undeserved.

There’s no way to reduce my frustration. Closing the game doesn’t make me less mad, it just makes me more irritated ending on a loss. So what do I do?

If you get upset and angry playing a video game… don’t play that video game.

There’s so many great games to play… why spend time angry in a game thrown in the dumpster,

Why don’t you go outside, take a deep breath, and scream…

…then come back and tell me if it works, because I really want to, but I’m sure someone would call the cops on me.

Focus on your own game, trying to plug the gaps that you see in your team with your own abilities. It’s kind of like a puzzle game like that and yeah, sometimes the puzzle is impossible to win but then just do your best to fill your role so that you’re satisfied with your own performance.

Or someone stuck with a lack of LFG…
or stuck with a rigged gameplay experience…

  1. we can’t even find ppl to play with.
  2. when we finally get to play it’s fake/ded/rigged.

In my experience, screaming just makes it worse. There’s a brief expense of energy, but you come right back to face the same situation, which just makes it worse because you’re more angry and just a little more impatient because of the change in energy levels.

My advice, OP, would be to care less. Don’t get caught up in caring about your rank or your career profile or your “progress” or even winning. Yes, winning is nice, but no, you will not have gained or lost anything that you didn’t have before or after the match.

You can take this a step further, depending on your age and how your body responds to alcohol. I say this too much, but overwatch is an amazing drinking game!!
:beers:

OH OH
Also, don’t try to relax. That’s an oxymoron. If you try to relax, you’re just going to highlight the fact that you’re not relaxed while just not getting relaxed.

LFG was only around for a very short time because 99% of the time LFG was used it was only fun until you lost and then the racist toxicity happens.

They had to remove it from the game entirely. That’s how mad people get in this game.

Nope. They had 4 years.

A CS101 intern can make you an LFG 2.0 ft. guilds/clans/etc in that much time.
And there are all kinds of ways to filter/flag toxicity.

Removal of LFG should have meant removal of AK as team lead.
You rework and improve these systems…
…not delete what is considered foundational to an online ecosystem.

Stop playing the game.

I am being serious and not vindictive. If you stay around a source that angers you without coming to terms, you will just remain angry.

Talk to a professional. This forum is not the place to work out issues.

Turn off the game.

It is just a game. Being legitimately angry about a video game isn’t anymore healthy than getting mad about the ending of a movie, or the outcome of, say, the superbowl. It’s a pass-time, not an important part of your life. If it upsets you, genuinely, that’s not a healthy mode to practice being in.

Move on and come back to it when it feels less important, and it might even be enjoyable again.

I get angry because its competitive which I don’t mind. What annoys me is when I know what’s required to win the game, but can’t do anything because its considered toxic to even mention a potential switch.

Like if I could swap roles with players mid-game, I would gladly do so. You’re having issues on DPS? Don’t worry I gotchu. But I can’t, so I’m left to sit there silently and lose

Its not the rank or the stats that bother me. Its just dying over and over because I’m not getting supported by the DPS (Or any of the roles, depending on the situation). I can’t comprehend how someone can repeatedly die over and over to the same enemy hero, and just not switch. Walking back from spawn cannot be enjoyable, let alone having to do it multiple times.

I typically play this game alone, since most of my friends don’t play it anymore and I’m addicted to the game so I cant stop. Which is why I can’t play this game drunk, being drunk alone is nort fun.

I like the wording of this, tickles my brain. Like when you know something, but dont really know it, and then one day you actually know it, y’know?

Stop playing ow. Remember that dev who admitted he doesn’t play the game in his free time because he doesn’t want to go to bed angry? We should take his advice.

The most low-brow of low-brow toxicity and for some reason people think its still shocking to hear as if half of us didn’t grow up playing cod nearly 2 decades ago.

Honest answer?

Don’t play Overwatch.

I’m normally really chill when playing games. I’ve been playing them for what, 30 years now, and I’ve never had any issue with feeling angry or whatever.
I knew some kids that would get frustrated and throw their controller to the ground, or punch the screen of their handheld, but that was never me.

Then I played Overwatch.

I have never felt such blood boiling rage in my life. The way this game is designed to make you so heavily dependent on others, combined with the irritating SoBs that play this game is the worst.

You will never come off a session with this game feeling good. My advice would be to stop playing it, I couldn’t believe how much my general mood and demeanour improved when I did.

Its not the game that irritates me, its the player base (at least some of the player base). Being afraid to lose your account because one party of 4 mass reports you for speaking the very concept of switching is what irritates me.

Simply mentioning it puts people in a foul mood, which leads to unnecessary comments because of hurt pride.

There needs to be some sort of “Hero request” option to allow players in other roles on your team to know what could be more useful. Something that would allow players of a team to vote on as a good or bad idea, not specifically forcing the player to switch, but notifying them anonymously and unanimously.

You are allowed to be mad. You are not allowed to take this out on other people no matter how “justified” you think it is.

If the only way you reduce frustration is taking it out on others, you need some help.

Talk to a therapist. Cause anything I say is pretty pointless and amateur.
