Tips and Tricks!

Welcome to the toxicity-free zone of the forums! Everybody feel welcome to share their personal favorite tricks (animation cancels, map spots, movement tips) for either their favorite hero or any hero on this thread! Let’s make this a spot where everybody can learn a new trick to help them improve!

Here’s mine- On Tracer I always make sure to press the melee button while recalling because it cancels the melee animation and is a free 30 damage!

Another is to always shoot right before using Pharah’s ultimate because you can cancel the shot animation and get off a little more free damage!

Orisa: If you throw your shield up vertically, it will come down in 6 seconds, leaving 2 seconds on your cooldown when your shield is replaced.

If you can time this correctly, you can get a new shield faster and have another shield ready in case you need a new one fast.

Obviously, this only works outside.

When you use valkyrie, try and leave your tanks at a critical state if they’re not in danger of dying. This will allow you to gain a quick 30% ultimate charge when valkyrie ends.

Symmetra:

engage enemies via TP but throw a turret down before you teleport over for some back-up damage and slow, as well as a get away. Don’t forget to charge an Orb before going through.

Definitely throw down some turrets to help take out Hammond’s mines. It’s free ULT charge.

If there’s a Sombra kicking about hang back from the battle field. When she ULTs you’ll be safe to throw up your wall and protect your team.

Tank: Sometimes when the fight gets rough, I’ll essentially “sit” on my support to keep them out of sight. I’ll usually do this if I see them backing up into a corner. I’ll body block them to buy them a second to heal up and-or reload.

Not sure if this is a legit tip or trick, but I do this. c:

Soldier reloads quicker when ulting.

Wait… hammond’s mines give ult charge?!

I have a couple of fun ones for sombra as well-
If you have EMP you can bait out a Zen’s Transcendence by throwing in a translocator and then either cancelling it or going through it and then not EMPing, essentially faking an EMP.

Symmetra’s beam is long enough to hit enemies from the top of the buildings on dorado first lane… so i tend to just start there and put a turret or two at the widow nest top of spawn. and two ontop of the building with me for those pesky divers. you also have a easy LoS with the other highground and ur team to escape if u get engaged by a monkey tp is fast enough to escape before ur tickled to death.

If your on attack you can go out the bottom side spawn door and wrap around the flank with the mega, but instead of going out onto the high ground u can instead look up and teleport ontop of the wall and drop down onto point A and set up a reverse kill gate for when ur team forces the enemies to rotate. This should buy a few split seconds for your team to push a hole through that choke. (also useful for hanzo and reaper and genji)

(she has many maps like this but this is one of my favorite examples)

If a fight has been lost, instead of fighting to stay alive as long as you can, you should jump off the map or let the enemy kill you as quickly as possible, unless if you are 100% sure that you can escape. This reduces the time it takes to group up as you will respawn soon after your team mates, instead of only dying after everyone else has grouped up near the choke.

The exception to this rule is if you have the point on a control point map, but the enemy has won the teamfight and is about to cap it. In that case, contesting the point to gain a few extra percentages can often be worth it. If you’re team can keep on trickling in, you can actually gain significant amounts.

Still doable inside actually. Shooting at the ceiling, or door may not give the full six seconds, but 2 seconds still works. If your next shield is ready but there’s still 200hp on the shield, launch it at the ceiling to squeeze every bit of value out of your shield.

When you shoot at the ceiling, the emitter doesn’t bounce off it. It hits, stops, then starts accelerating towards the ground. You can shave 2-3 seconds off your shield cooldown shooting at a high ceiling or door.

For long range deployment, use doors, pillars and walls to help you land your shield where you need it. I don’t have a clip specifically demonstrating it, but i happen to have one when i was comparing her to Baptiste.

Deploying at range has advantages. Your team gets shields before you’re physically there, your shields would have cooled down by the time you catch up and ready to deploy another shield more precisely. And as mentioned, you don’t need precise aim to get your shields there, just use the walls to guide your shields, so you can do this consistently and reliably.

PS: Is there any advantage to Baptiste’s drone being so bouncy? It’s harder to land his drone precisely.

Baptiste:

Right before the match begins, lob a bunch of healing grenades straight into the air of where your team is most clumped up. When the enemy starts to engage, you will have the equivalent of 2x the healing grenades coming down upon your team. Either that or you can focus on damage for a bit while the airborne grenades come down and top off any poke damage.

Winston can generate ult charge from primal rage if you knock them off the map as its ending.

Sometimes it’s better to switch modes instead of reloading as Bastion.

If Mei is freezing you as you play Ashe, don’t couch gun her away. Look down and couch gun yourself up. You can follow up with dynamite if you have it forcing her to cryofreeze.

Doomfist can get a few extra meters from rp as the ramp goes down as he leaves spawn on some control maps. Jumping at the end of rp will add even more distance.

Always throw an orb out before you use Moira’s ult. As the extra damage or healing from it can turn a team fight around.

Tips

Superjump(obv), great for positioning, allies out of range vertically, and escape. But don’t use too often if enemy has hitscans
GA prefer target ON: use the map to your advantage, if being attacked jump off a cliff or into a hole for 1-2seconds, if you lose LoS of target, just don’t stay for more than 3 seconds, and you can GA back up
GA prefer target OFF: Time healing so that you can jump to another target whilst topping off the other!
DONT ALWAYS FLY STRAIGHT UP IN VALK:
Probably one of the worst ideas, especially if the enemy has a hitscan. You’re super vulnerable if you try to always hit the sky box. If the enemy has a dead eye? You’re screwed.
Don’t forget your beam can connect for 3 seconds after Losing LoS, use that to stay in cover more

Map tips

ToA: first point def: stay up on the little bridge/arc(the one with metal paneling) if you’re holding there, and peak to damage boost/heal and then return to cover for 2 seconds. Makes you hard to hit or pick
ToA: second point(attack/def): use GA to weave in an out of pillars to avoid damage. It’s mercy heaven

Plus, if your ultimate is for extra heals on say, a focused tank who’s low, they’ll still be receiving a few heals whilst the ult activates!

highly depends. in MANY situations, you should stall and die on point to get the most %.

I have seen this super jump in action, but I’ve always wondered what I have to do to perform it. Doesn’t it have something to do with crouching? I’ve never been sure.

The combo is:
Ctrl+Lsfhift(crouch+GA button), you should be “lower”. Once you reach your target after that combo, there’ll be a very slight “pause” Mercy will do, in that moment press Jump and you, if timed correctly, will shoot you straight up

The sooner you hit jump, the more of a forward arch you’ll do, press it too late and you’ll just stop.

It’s hard to get the timing right, but with practice becomes second nature

When you have Mercy ult, you can hide behind the anubis statue second point for a 5-man

For console, turn off aim assist on heroes like pharah and junkrat. It’ll help out a lot, especially on pharah since you always have to predict your shots.

For mercy, spin in circles while rezing to avoid headshots, also turn sense up on mercy since you dont really need aim for her

I like to use ashe’s coach gun as a melee attack but with a little more range, you can also use it to get a more consistent shots since booped enemies move in a predictable way
