So a hero that’s picked alongside the best balanced DPS hero in the game (soldier) needs a nerf?

AS you can see after Soldiers nerfs Genji overtook him, and he himself was only ever beaten in the category by Tracer. Even before his nerf Genji wans’t behind him by much.
Aside from that, heroes are suppossedly nerfed or retuned if they meet several critera, community complains about them too much or an ability is unfair (see scattershot, junkrate mine, etc), when the developers think the hero needs tuning, or when there’s objective proof a hero is over performing.
The former criteria has already been met, the later being his egregious deflect hitbox, and persistence of his swift strike’s damage even if he has been killed using it. There’s significant evidence to show how broken the hitbox on the cooldown is, yet nothing’s been done about it. Surely he could afford to have this ability retuned if there’s something distinctly wrong with it and the player base has that much of a problem with it?
I think as of the original forum’s closure the Genji deflect hitbox thread had the most likes on a forum post period at something close to 2k likes, not counting ones negated by dislikes, it also had something like 40+ examples of hitbox registration errors, and it’s apparent range is stretches well past the animation with a total width of something like a wrap around Orisa shield.
The developers even noted it as a proble,m when they said that they were “looking into it but in the meantime don’t shoot at him ;)” so by their own admission this ability at least is fulfilling all the critera to be changed but it’s not happened despite the evidence and player outcry.
You’re looking at stats from the competitive ladder that are 5 seasons old…

I don’t see how stats from 5 seasons ago would relate to whether or not a character needs to be nerfed now.

That’s not debatable, that’s fact that he can be meta as shown by the stats.
By dev admission they were both bugs that they left in the game, like Widow’s wuick scoping, you can find the threads discussing the changes yourself. Aside from that both of Genji’s bugfixes came with some form of buff to him regardless, like his ult having it’s hitboxes adjusted and I believe they even adjusted his swing speed. Despite all this he still maintained his rather high pickrate.
Soldier and Junkrat both have lower skill floors with doing well, and are generally considered the go to starter heroes, with Genji being touted as the difficult hero to pick up and play, yet despite this he still has pretty sizable pickrates in all ranks. It might be worse in bronze or silver, but it’s generally even by gold and platinum in the case of Junkrat.

Widow is still soundly countered by barrier tanks in general and requires mechanical skill. There’s other things to be said there, but we’re not talking about Widow, we’re talking about Genji.
Can Brigitte please get the ability to wavedash and L-cancel? Please blizzard.

Stop using ladder stats, people on ladder (Especially lower levels) pick heroes because they’re cool, not because they’re good at them or make them win games…
I honestly would prefer more techniques that take practice and skill to use effectively. It would make OWL more impressive to watch.

Well unfortunately that wont happen since we’ve seen Genji’s ledge boost tech been patched out and other various things like faster turret upgrade (Torb).
It’s to prove my point that’s he’s never not been meta. You can easily view the stats that show his viability in season 8.
Aside from that I’m arguing with the people who have disagreements with op’s post in that deflect should be changed, and by the developer’s own “balance triangle” standards, it should be.

As you can see, I’ve made my point soundly, by Jeff’s own balance triangle idea, Genji has both the evidence to support deflect is overtuned, the public outcry for it in the form of the thread and likes/ daily threads on deflect, and Jeff admitting and being quoted in the threads for acknowledging Genji’s broken hitbox.
That makes me sad. It’s always impressive watching a Soldier in TF2 rocket jump across the map and shovel a Medic to death.

Wait a minute there. Don’t get me wrong, I’m 100% with you on this, but aren’t you the guy that was on a personal crusade against Moira and that didn’t accept the OWL pickrate argument for her being balanced?
So what is it? Is the OWL pickrate argument acceptable when judging balance or not?

Or he deflected the otherwise lethal damage while he was out of position, and then dashes away to cover.
Just saying that deflect is frustrating to play against because it doesn’t have to be a set 2 seconds.
How is this different to D.Va putting up a Matrix and boosting to cover?
If he’s out of position then he’ll die.
People have the misconception that ‘Out of position’ means to be past the choke or away from your team, but in reality being ‘out of position’ is being out of a position where you’re safe with your team or in a position where you can’t get back to the safety of your team. The same way Sombra isn’t considered out of position when she runs out and tries to pick a support super far back if she has a Translocator down, Genji isn’t out of position if he runs out and can get back to his team if he needs to.

every post that talk about skill is from someone that is from plat or gold? dont shot at a deflecting genji, blizzard already talked about this genji deflect will not change…
