If dps start whining give support nerf and boost dps. (just all dps)
boost colesław (what you think? of corse he need air combat role and more dmg)
boost dps coze hes pic rate drop (we need coleslav boost)
nerf suport coze owl (yea coze we find out x support it’s to mutch versatile or work too good)
we know it’s op but we don’t care (df, jr, rp, cc)
f this hero - ha ha ha beep boop beep
more support nerf (after all, why not… why not boost coleslav?)
lol @ “no reason” as to why the devs buff a hero.
There are several reasons. Well at least more than just 1 that people in these forums stick with to the death. Which is popularity “Popular means OP” . End of discussion.
Blizz has internal stats that are more accurate than those on other unofficial sources or websites that players stick to.
Your Poll thread should be an eye opener to you. At least I thought it would be to you and other people that post here.
As to what heroes the majority actually want in their games (to be meta), and what heroes they don’t (niche like heroes).
I’ve said this a million times, as to the game being balanced is an illusion. Because everyone wants the game to be balanced a certain way, based on their biases.
And the worst way to balance a game is to nerf heroes that are performing decent just to get them out of people games.
And as your poll showed, you don’t dumpster nerf, the heroes people actually want to be meta and see in their games just so the niche heroes that people (outside of these forums) would want to be played as much as the meta heroes. Like Sym , Junk and the rest of them.
Again that poll should have been an eye opener for most in here. But it was quickly ignored and everyone moved on and continued living in their fantasy world, where the popular heroes must be deleted from the game because they don’t want to see those heroes in their games anymore.
And fyi, all similar poll results done in past in these forums , YouTube, reddit, various websites, twitch, all have been similar results to the one you posted.
The majority of the player base like playing certain heroes and that will never change.
Genji was nerfed in 2 weeks for being overtuned for the first time in 4 years, and Brig was overpowered for 3 almost 4 years now and has been left like that, but sure Genji is more favored
Junk needs to go up a tier. I’d reserve the bottom two for heroes they actively have drop kicked into the floor. Junk has been left in a more than playable state for a while and they even recently buffed him through the roof.
Doom I think goes up one aswell.
Mei is a weird one. As a Mei main, I would say the balance team couldn’t care less about her and I would say they put her with Bastion. The 10-12 back to back nerfs showed this and leaving her as a god awful character for so long and still nerfing her shows this. But someone clearly likes her (or did since they probably aren’t at blizz anymore) because she gets alot of skins, alot of time in shorts (including her own and was one of the main heroes of the last one we got announcing OW2), the first to get an OW2 exclusive skin and alot of effort put into her voicelines and such. E.G. she has unique changes in voicelines if she is wearing her Santa skin, like “you have to let it go” changes to “you have to let it snow”.
Clearly someone cares about her but the balance team doesn’t.
Junk had every single part of his kit nerfed within a few months of first being buffed. He was then left in F tier for a year before getting a buff that came with a compensation nerf but it still left him in a pitiful state.
He’s slowly crept back to relevance with multiple small buffs but even now is only played on a small handful of maps.
Even the experimental for him was a disaster. It was a proposal to change everything about the heroes playstyle and nerf him in the very ranks he needs help in. He’s absolutely in the “ewwww” category. The devs clearly dont care for him.
I think McCree should be higher than Tracer. They did literally try and buff McCree when he was already doing insanely well. With Tracer she’s just been left alone.
I’d also swap Ashe and Soldier because Ashe has almost solely gotten nerfs whereas Soldier has gotten a ton of buffs recently with no nerfs.
I would argue the experimental made him incredibly good. Now, his enjoyment was lowered alot alongside his skill ceiling, but that close range direct damage was insane allowing him to 3 shot any tank in the game. The fact they buffed him to do that in general to me, tells me they don’t completely hate him. He has also been very playable for a while now and he got insane QOL changes like his grenades not damaging himself while similar heroes such as phara never got such changes.
His burst 1 shot potential alone makes him very viable in alot of ranks. When I’ve had enough of annoying enemies but not getting any value on Mei, junk has become one of my go to swaps because he has amazing solo carry potential and alot of enemies don’t know how to effectively deal with a junk because he isn’t played so much.
I can’t talk for the tippity top ranks, but since he is viable in the ranks that 90% of players are playing in I wouldn’t call that “eeeew”.
It was a buff for low ranks and a nerf for high ranks. The exact opposite of what was needed.
This is because low ranks would not punish Junks lack of effective way to be within 15m of the fight without dying. He lacks extra hp, an escape, a defensive ability, armour, etc. High ranks would punish him for playing so closely and/or prevent him from reaching that range to begin with. Then add in that the range limitation meant that Junk couldn’t even use high ground anymore and that being able to actually hit shots was punished. It was a massive nerf for everything above plat.
He’s one of the least played dps in the game for a reason. He does his job well on a handful of maps. Outside of those maps he’s not worth the effort.
Junk lost self damage because he was F tier and completely unplayable. For example a winston or dva looking at him was certain death because the Junk could either 1. Stand there and die or 2. Fight back and kill himself.
Pharah on the other hand shouldn’t be near enemies and even has flight to allow that. They are not comparable.
Every single hero in the game is viable below high masters. That doesn’t mean they’re fine or even close to being balanced though. It just means that you can brute force the heroes by outplaying everyone else to an unreasonable level.
