I remember a thread like this done ages ago, and with how long they’ve refused to nerf tracer I decided to make another one.
Let me know your thoughts, I just thought of most of this on the spot so you can probably convince me to change some places
This is primarily based on
- How long it took a hero to receive nerfs
- Overbuffed heroes (i.e genji getting 4 buffs in 1 patch lul)
- Heroes getting buffed when they’re literally meta (you know who)
- How long a hero has been bad/good.
- OP/UP hero reworks (hi mercy 2.0)
- Tracer tier where we literally change the entire game to avoid nerfing her lol
There is 1 exception to a lot of this, that is brig. Although they released her OP af, I dont think they really like her at all lol. But since they released her so OP and took a long time to make her balanced I put her as “dont really care”.

Mercy is an interesting one. Her rework was an overpowered mess that took way too long to fix, but then it took them years to give her the healing she needed back.
Even now, I personally think she’s the weakest main support. They never removed superjump though.

Yeah, just the fact that they considered putting that disgustingly overpowered valk on PTR is insane.
But yeah she had 50HPS for a year I think. I think she’s a strong support rn though.
Brigs really good even now after all the nerfs tho.

I know she’s still good in pro play, what I mean is that she lost her armor packs, HP, etc.

Oh true, she definitely has been nerfed a LOT lol.
And they did nerf parts of his kit that just made her way more boring. Like I wont lie I miss old repair pack, mainly because I love zarya bubble and it was similar lol. Tbh it just seemed like they didnt care and just wanted her nerfed. But then AGAIN… She has been so so good for years. So thats why I put “dont really care”.

It’s unreal how the devs treat tracer. I literally can’t believe they would rather drastically change the game and add stuff just because they can’t fathom nerfing the poster girl. It’s mind numbingly delusional

Like I get tracer is a high skill hero blah blah blah all that jazz. I agree she has a very high skill ceiling, one of the highest in the game. But something being high skill doesn’t excuse something being broken.

The thing is, I don’t even know they care about her skill…?
Like some of the hardest fundamental heroes are hated by the devs.
I actually think now it’s come to “no we dont wanna nerf poster child!!”

I’m not really referring to the devs, but more the people that defend tracer. There excuse is always “BUT… BUT… SHES THE HARDEST DPS WE CANNOT NERF HER” all that BS. But I do agree, I think the devs are more about keeping her in power because of her being the “face” of the game

maybe because on 99% of player base she not a problem
im only high plat / low diamond, have been play since launch, never had any problem vs tracer
unless its a smurf above my skill rating, like GM player playing in plat

That doesn’t change anything, just about every hero is balanced around GM and that’s always been the case. There’s no excuse for tracer to be an exception. If she’s overperforming in GM, she deserves a nerf.
Yet instead the balance team have refused to do so for the past 5 years. Instead they ruin the game by attempting to add counters to her.

Don’t really care about them is an interesting list.
On the one hand, Zarya and D.va have been allowed to be in a bunch of different metas. Lucio had a few of his own. Orisa and Torb, though? They seem far more actively opposed to those two sticking around. Brig they just can’t seem to get rid of no matter what. I don’t have any clue what they think about her.
I feel like Soldier should be lower because of how many years he spent in the ‘meh’ catagory.

I put zarya and d.va there because while they’ve had plenty of meta sunlight, they’ve also had plenty of off meta time. So they’re definitely neutral. Especially zarya, they’ve never really changed her, and if they did it was nerfs. I was actually considering putting both in “ewww”, zaryas only really received bad changes, d.va was terrible for like a year. But then again, a lot of meta spotlight. This status may change if they give zarya more rocket jump knockback though 
Lucio… maybe you have a point. I just don’t really think they care much about him. But I remember they unnecessarily buffed him once, so maybe kinda like him. But since he’s received so little changes I just dont think they really care about him lol.
Good point on soldier, I was thinking that also, but he did get quite a few nice changes, like the no spread/recoil change. That was a nice big change. But yeah he was meh for years, I might move him down then.

), faster shadow step () but also some terrible ones to compensate lol like reduced dmg.

That’s true. Maybe they just like where he is, but they really haven’t done much for him, and we haven’t really seen him since since…GOATS? I feel like there was a few months of rush after that…I can’t keep my meta timeline straight anymore.
The Soldier changes were really nice. Before those I would have said he’s down there just above Symm maybe, but they got him to a really nice place.
