About myself: I play mainly on the PS4 Asia region, mid-gold tier, tank main.
I can only speak for PS4 Asia region, but there is a major problem with throwers in this game. I find throwers in over 50% of my games, sometimes more than one in a single game. For me Overwatch is becoming a luck-based game where the team who doesn’t get the thrower(s) wins, and the result is completely out of my control. I know Blizzard is trying to improve this with the “avoid teammate” system and such, but its not enough at all (I am not getting the “thank you for reporting” screen enough).
Do Blizzard actually punish throwers? Is there a way (e.g. video evidence) that I can use to help?
I really think Overwatch is a great game, but when one player can ruin the whole game for the team and get away with it, I think there is a problem.
They actually punish throwers. It just takes actually reporting them.
I can attest to this for at least one thrower. I don’t generally report unless it’s a major hassle. So in a time when I hadn’t made a report in about a week and a half got in a game with someone who was deliberately antagonizing another person on my team, stating openly in voice chat that they were throwing and in general sabatoging every step (Not healing at all with Ana, walling us in with Mei, being Roadhog and standing in front of the enemy to feed their ults, etc).
I reported them at the end of the game. 48 hours later I got the “Your report made a difference.”
I report any kind of throwing (jumping off cliffs multiple times, not leaving spawn, throwing ults at the sky/empty spaces), and although I do get the “thank you for reporting” screen once in a while, its nothing compared to the number of reports I file.
It’s sadly an automated system and it takes other people reporting too.
There’s a simple reality that some of what you’re describing might not be throwing.
I’ve seen people stay in Spawn too long, but it turned out they were switching or there was just a brief lag spike.
I’ve seen people go off cliffs… Because the teamfight was lost and that was a better option than feeding the enemy ults more.
Bad Ults can be throwing or can be poor gameplay. I have accidentally hit Q and wasted a sound barrier or trans in spawn. Or hit Q but not Shift and so an exploding mech sits just outside the control point instead of being pushed in to clear the area.
