Throwers and leavers: Since Blizzard will not take action - what should WE do?

I say all of this because I absolutely love the game and what Blizzard have done over the years giving me great value (pounds per hour, I pay almost nothing).

Just had someone jumping off the map the half the game.

They then sent a private message if it’s funny to wait for 15 minutes for a DPS to lose a game.

It isn’t actually. But it is to them. The worst part about it is that they know there are no repercussions. On console, they don’t even have to buy another game.

We’ve made many suggestions:

  • minimum 200 level for competitive
  • permabans for evidence of throwing
  • grouping leavers together

We have nothing. Personally I think each smurf account inflates player numbers and gives the illusion that people are still playing.

I’m in two minds over this - on one hand Overwatch still gets funding from Blizzard to make the game better but on the other hand, genuine fans will leave.

So I ask the people. What should we do?

Name and shame?
Stop playing altogether until it’s fixed?

I’m at a loss now.

The game is build around Esports. Every extra pleb and smurf buying a new account is just extra cash to fund their horrible owl.

I personally play other games like rainbow six siege. You can actually make a difference there even with potato team. Unlike this mess

I actually like the OWL though.

And the two can coexist.

Can the community do something about throwers and leavers?

THROWERS AND LEAVERS: SINCE BLIZZARD WILL NOT TAKE ACTION - WHAT SHOULD WE DO?

We should definitely publish their battle tags and maybe even Facebook profiles.

Now seriously, what do you think why the thrower problem in Overwatch is bigger than for example in CS.Go?

Nothing has been done in 4 years despite some solid ideas.

All you can really do is accept its part of the game or move on to a different one.

Nothing we do will reduce the number of leavers or throwers. Either it comes from the devs or not at all

Report, avoid, and move on.

That’s all we really can do.

In the meantime, Jeff has already acknowledged that smurfing is a problem on consoles and that they’re working on a potential solution (though not to expect anything until around Overwatch 2’s launch).

You cant do anything, period. You have no power over anything as simple player. They have to do something.

What exactly? Two things:

1) Make all punishments public so people know they will get banned
Make clear statement what is and what is not allowed.

2) Have staff dealing with it
What I would do? I would take idk few employees, lets say 2-4 for every region. Their full time job would be targeting and banning toxic players, SR altering people, boosters and cheaters. They would have access to in game chat, voice chat and replayes. They would actively search for not allowed behavior. Part of their job would be playing the game on special accounts, but not on their mains if they have them to avoid being influenced by emotion from possible losing.

As another part of the job would be to actively contact people willing to help, friendly players who are interested to help to target cheaters and other players who dont behave. They would be sending informations where to look, possibly recording stuff(in case of chat/voice chat as vocie chat is probably not part of informations they keep.

So yeah, something like this might work, system where few people will be doing police over competitive with help of other good players. If they would implement this, I am sure anything “illegal” would go down by 80% in few weeks.

This right here would be awesome. GTA5 does that for cheaters. Why can’t overwatch do that for leavers. They will be stuck on a server with fellow leavers for EVER!!! It would be glorious.

You can report players for inactivity. You cannot report them for not picking hero you want them to pick. I mean, you can, no action will be done against that.

Leavers? Nothing you can do about that. Anyone can at any point do ALT+F4, lose power and so on.

People get actioned for false reporting all the time

The system is fully automated and works on volume

Did you honestly hear about anyone being sanctioned? Because I didnt and I am part of several discord servers, like I have never saw anyone saying something like that.

I am aware of only one case and it was XQc, but that might be result of automatic spam system. Blizzard have this is more games, if you do certain action over and over again, you will get banned. They had this on many things in Diablo 2 battle net for example. If you dont know what xqc did, he reported same player multiple times with writing f word in text.

EDIT: Or were you talking about people being sactioned for being reported? if yes, i misunderstood you.

I mean my points of reference are people who post here about getting actioned for playing bastion, sym, non meta heroes, etc

So conceivably thats false correlation, but if the system is fully automated it doesnt feel like a stretch

But can you really trust them? I know of them too but only from here, nobody I know of who is friendly person and not toxic stubborn onetrick was ever sanctioned. Only people from this forum+few people on top who are famous hated one tricks because they play like 10 hours per day.

I generaly dont trust people here without evidence, because here is so many liars man. People lie here and even let their profiles open so you can catch them lying, its ridiculous. Do you remember that case of sanctioned player who said something like how he was innocent. Jeff Kaplan himself did respond and said that guy had thousands of reports and was extremely toxic.

Just play…

Christ man, people on this forum get their knickers in SUCH a twist over freaking nothing. None of this is unique to overwatch, none of this is some special thing that you don’t run into in any competitive game.

People are cry babies and poor sports and there is nothing you can do about it. You have it on Apex, you have it on Fortnight, you have it on freaking Yahoo Online Checkers man, you have it at the local park if you go play pick up baketball, doesn’t matter what it is, you have poor sports who will act poorly when things aren’t going how they want.

What do you do in literally ANY OTHER GAME. You just play, mock the babies and poor sports, and just play. Cripes people, you can’t ask blizzard to patch human nature.

Can you just create a private ladder? You could just create custom games, and get a bunch of tools to create a matchmaking system.

Every report counts the same. If I report you for gameplay sabotage saying you did nothing but jump off the map all game, it counts the same whether you did or didn’t.

Well yeah, it counts the same but that doesn’t mean that action will be taken against that account when that player actually didn’t jump off the map for duration of a game.

And no one watching that sh#t show and now we know that those OWL-Ads on sites wowhead etc. count as viewers even tho you dont even look at it. I wonder how many “real” viewers are watching thatn farce of a show lol

Yes, it means exactly that. Suspensions are automated. No one verifies whether the report is valid or not before action happens.

The Fuey500 incident proved it more than enough… Just spam report someone you dont like and that person gets banned eventually.
