EDIT: It seems like Blizzard has added more controller settings like dead-zone. Thank you Blizzard! I feel out-of-the-box settings are good for controllers now. As for the rest of what I originally mentioned in my post.
It turns out my LG Oled was defective out of the box and most features on the TV were only partially working properly or not at all. After 2 years it decided to start turning itself off when playing anything not gaming-related, which is when I finally figured out the issues I was having for certain things was indeed the TV and not other tech.
Have a new Oled now and it’s fantastic! So, if a mod happens to see this thread, it can be deleted.
It’s because OW is definitely a very hard game to run, with advanced graphics and much faster gameplay than most fps games(Siege, for example).
I can’t see a way for them to improve aim on consoles. The game plays too fast for a controller. Input lag I don’t know much about, but maybe it could be fixed.
Because Blizzard didn’t have anyone there who knew how to program for controllers. OW launched with only dual zone controls. They had to get assistance from another Activision company to learn how to program linear and exponential ramp. Something I will continue to laud them for. This was a huge upgrade.
Unfortunately, after that controller update back in 2017/2018 (can’t remember exact date), they haven’t done anything significant since. Despite repeated requests for dead zone sliders and other controller functionality upgrades.
What we have is probably the best they can do, and that’s unlikely to change.
This isn’t related to Overwatch. 60 fps adds 16.67ms of render latency, which is huge. 120 fps adds only half that, hence the more responsive input.
I wouldn’t doubt if OW2 had other input latency problems beyond that though. I still remember the nightmarish state of OW2’s mouse input on PC at launch.
Overwatch 2 is simply an upgraded version of Overwatch 1, which is a 2016 game. New games coming out are more technically advanced comparatively. The fact that the Xbox Series X/S and the PS5 can run the game at an adaptive 1440p and 120 Hz with basically no frame drops whatsoever is proof of that.
COD MW2, Warzone, and Battlefield 2042 while not quite as consistently fast-paced as Overwatch.
Are still very fast-paced, much more so than pretty much all previous titles in their respective franchises. Consoles and players have no problem with very fast-paced games. Blizzard can absolutely improve aim on console, most other console shooters are proof of that.
the bulk of gaming revenue comes from consoles.
the bulk of current pc players came from consoles.
console is the bedrock of modern gaming as well as the roots.
Part of it is the lack of movement acceleration, another is that AA works at all ranges whereas an smg in Destiny might not have any beyond 18 meters. Then there’s also bullet magnetism in some games and using Destiny as the example again, if you’re within AA range, your gun is more accurate and stable.
No, I realize that. To clarify, what I’m meaning is, playing other console games the difference between 60 and 120 fps for the input delay isn’t as pronounced. But with Overwatch 2 I can definitely tell the difference a good amount more than it probably should be.
For some games, I’ve kept it on the 60 fps modes due to the input lag being good enough that I wanted to preserve the resolution or other graphical bells and whistles. Destiny 2, all the modern COD titles including Warzone, and all the modern Battlefield titles feel fantastic at 60 fps.
In Overwatch every precision frame, timing and aim matters a great deal. And the fact that the game has noticeable input lag at 60 fps for a competitive shooter like this really isn’t acceptable, as far as I’m concerned.
thats nothing . convenience and not dealing with launchers ? what LOL i cant even pretend to take any of that seriously
keep walking
what convenience are you even talking about ? and whats the problem with having a launcher for your games ? thats NOT a problem in any way . i guess you just dont have real arguments so you fluff it up
my pc is perfectly silent and i wont need to buy another one for at least a decade
The TV I have is the LG OLED CX. According to Rtings, the input lag for it at 120 Hz is 6.7 ms. With VRR at 4K, it’s 5.9 ms. Now, I don’t know how that compares to the highest-end PC displays but just from playing games at 60 and up to 120 fps.
It feels excellent! Especially compared to my old TV. I firmly believe this is a game problem and not a hardware issue, as different games tend to have different input delays, based on a number of different factors.
Digital Foundry for example has talked about input lag for years over many different videos and how it can differ widely from game to game. A good example of this off the top of my head is the original Dishonored games on console had horrendous input latency.
And was a huge factor in why I never played the games much.
