I haven’t played Overwatch for a few weeks/months now because of the Perk system and only came back just now for the 2017 Overwatch Event. I feel like Perks are a bad edition to the game like with McCree’s or Bastion’s Majors, but I feel like it would also be also a good idea too because it changes people’s playstyles and encourages less counter switching from what I heard, but I feel like that depends on how the people play their heroes and work as a team.
For me personally, I just do not like them as I feel like the game was decently okay and probably would’ve been better if they just balanced heroes properly and listen to what other players have to say in general. Example being that they nerfed Doomfist’s slam ability because of something involving his punch, which made absolute no sense. I feel like they should remove perks as I don’t want to try and learn new mechanics in the game that involve the entire hero cast, but I get they are trying out new things out gameplay wise.
What I want to know is if anyone has thoughts about perks in general and your experiences with them. I haven’t really touched the 5v5 scene since weeks or months I believe, I’m not even sure how long it’s been.
I like the concept, but the execution is pretty bad. Certain strong heroes got stronger perks, while weaker heroes kind of got what amount to QoL changes that don’t actually help them.

Could you give some examples on weaker heroes? I know that heroes like Bastion, McCree, or Doomfist got some insane broken perks when they were already pretty strong to begin with if played right by the player.
Perks single handly put genji back from the dead, so yeah

Frankly Im going to say they are disgusting and terrible despite somewhat liking them, outside of the obvious insane imbalance in usefulness among the roster.
Im going to say that, if and only if, Blizzard seems to do the last thing they should ever do which is to stop all hero balance and solely nerf or buff perks, which they failed to do for the midseason only to be raged at so hard they hotfix in a bunch of garbage they threw together in a couple days like with a .2 sec slide nerf for Soj.
I love Perks! However the organization and implementation of them sometimes feels mismanaged and illogical. For example, some Minor Perks feel like Major Perks and vice versa. Also, some Perks are too niché to really be consistently viable in gameplay. A lot of mixed feelings but mostly positive

The 2 weak DPS I’m most familiar with are Hanzo and Junkrat.
Hanzo:
He got a niche (though sometimes useful) perk that lets him hack health packs with Sonic. He got a Scatter Arrow perk that nerfs you for using it, as it does less damage and is less consistent than regular Storm Arrows. A perk that speeds up his Lunge cooldown while wall-climbing, which is most of the time useless. A perk that speeds his charge rate by 25% for 1 second after each hit, which only sometimes helps him, as he can’t play close enough to take advantage of it anyway.
Junkrat:
He got a perk that increases the speed of his tire, trading 50% of its damage. A perk that lets him throw his trap further. One that increases his frag projectile speed but loses 1 ammo (plus throws off your muscle memory). One where if your mine is on the ground for 0.5 secs, it deals increased damage and knockback, which rarely is useful as you rarely have that kinda time to blow it up (plus it also throws of your muscle memory).

Half of these perks need reworks but it has potential, also need preselect/autoselect system it’s not smooth, having to choose perks mid-fight

Yeah, those seems like the most useless perks in the game I’ve heard so far in Overwatch. Hopefully they’ll just revert it back to how it was without perks, game feels already unbalanced enough.
Just seems like the most broken heroes before the perk system got an extra buff when it came to the perk system from what it seems like to me when I checked out the heroes in the training range. Like Doomfist, Genji, Baston, McCree, and probably more that I am unaware of that are broken. Doomfist was already broken enough with his interesting mechanics like diagonal punches to get an insane 5 man punch nano boosted, but it just feels like he’s more crazy than he was in general now.
I like 5v5, don’t get me wrong, but perks just seem to make the 5v5 issue way worse. The developers when working and testing the game even said 6v6 was way better.
The only way I’ll probably only have fun is if Blizzard picks up their sthit together and balance the game (or remove perks), or if they bring back another classic Overwatch Event in which I’m sure they’ll do eventually. I’ll probably just play a few games after every few months I’m not playing it for the sake of my mental health, it’s already ruined it enough anyway.
I’m personally having a lot of fun in 6v6. There’s a lot more variety there, and counterswapping isn’t so obnoxious.
Again, I like the perks, but they need work. They do succeed in mixing things up a bit.

Maybe I should give it a try sometime whenever I got the free time then, and see for myself. I prefer if it was Overwatch 1 based but I’ll give it a try for myself.

Personally, I like the added challenge of selecting Perks: should I activate now mid-battle or retreat and activate it in a safe spot? I like making those split-second decisions. Like a mini-game. But a preset option would be nice too.

I hate them because all of my characters got basically nothing. If the rumors are true, Mei and Mercy will get a bit more fun, but it is too little too late. I think I am finally accepting that I just want to punch people. I am coming out of the closet.

He was literally the second best dps last season after sojourn. Guy was all over the top500 leaderboard.

they’re a win-more crutch that smothers FPS fundamentals.
game is already too “thick” at the meta level with hero picks, aim-assist, solos vs. stacks, comms, iwin button ultimates, and now perks.
there is basically nothing left to raw express when the servers/netcode/rigging is sus and every other player is cheating or assisted. ow2 became a refuge for ppl who cant FPS skill and need that kind of rigging.
so u do u but the skilled/fast probably won’t use perks.
most stupid and pointless addition to the game since the “progression system” that gives you nothing but more problems to leave the match
Nothing says fast paced action shooter better than randomly stopping to select a gimmick or massive buff. Always a fun experience having to step aside afking for perks or refusing to ult because its missing half its power level.
They are just a frustrating not needed addition to the game.

Neat idea but they are just another resource like ult gain that makes the winner of the first two team fights at a big advantange, especially if they picked heroes correctly at setup.
IMO the first level perks should be automatically built into every hero, and the second level perks should be selectable while in spawn, just like the Junkenstein mode.
