Thoughts on open queue

Ive realized from last nights games that open queue for comp is just a whole mess, theres barely any coherence in the teams unless youre stacking no matter how high you get, and if you just try to have a decent team comp youll probably end up winning a lot, even if youre in a rank higher than youre “meant to be”

Edit, i am not saying open queue is bad, or not fun, im saying its a mess, an incredibly fun mess, but a mess

I didnt struggle climbing either, i climbed well, im just describing how the games felt in comparison to role queue

OQ is the only good mode right now. Every single game in RQ is determined by a Tracer diff right now, and it is an utterly boring and loathsome experience.

OQ is literally the only reason I continue to play this game at all. Lol

Also, this is not true. From Diamond all the way up to the T500 OQ, 99% of the time, you’ll be running three tanks with two supports. That’s been the meta since the release of OW2.

Sometimes you’ll get a Reaper or Bastion, or maybe an Echo or Soj with a Mercy pocket, but again, that’s very rare.

I’d play OQ if they tightened up its matchmaker. As it is, the mode has the disadvantages of RQ (bad matchmaking because of role shortages) without any of the perks.

How high did you get? I solo q’d last season and it was very cohorent. 302 or 212 every game.

Open Queue is the wild west, but fun.

The skill gap can be crazy in some games.

Even though some of these players make it to Masters or GM Open Q the player I see average as gold, or plat in role queue. The skill difference from a high lvl GM role queue is vastly different from Open q.

Also the ego of Open Q players in Masters in above is next level. You would think they were pro players.

Regardless, its fun sometimes and a nice change of pace from role queue.

It’s always been the better mode…

Open queue is only good if you have good teammates willing to work together. The rest of the time it sucks, I don’t want to play a game with 4 players who only want to play DPS

You’re regurgitating incorrect information. A master OQ player is usually a master RQ player, diamond at the very least. I’m a platinum tank and I can’t even rank up to platinum on OQ. The competition is by far, harder and better. It’s how OW should be.

Kaplan is a loser for even implementing RQ. He should had just disabled Brigitte from competitive play until they resolved her issue instead of massacring their own game.

You just described RQ as well….

Not really… that’s why you left out the rest of my comment. At least in RQ you’re guaranteed to have some sort of structure, even if it’s not a great one. In OQ you’re guaranteed nothing. It’s not fun for me to queue for a game and possibly be matched with 4 players who only want to play DPS

Except you almost always do (please don’t make me grab my OQ log of over 3 years)….

Besides, Isn’t the complaint that’s it’s always 2-3 tanks and supports?? Sounds like structure to me…

The only problem with OQ is people playing it who shouldn’t be playing it…people who go in with the idea “I’m going to play X”…wrong game mode sir

How often you get a semi-structured team comp in OQ is irrelevant. That fact that you can get those awful games with no real team comp is the problem.

There’s no structure when one game your teammates could be 4 DPS and the next they could be 0 DPS

It would be one thing if the team collectively decided that’s what they wanted to do, that’s perfectly fine. The issue is that it’s almost never a collective agreement, it’s just individual players doing whatever they want and not trying to work with their team

Do not claim someone is providing misinformation when in fact you are doing exactly that.

It is wildly inconsistent in open queue matching the same MMR as role queue.

Because you cant climb in the higher ranks doesn’t mean its not happening.

Role queue skill levels from Masters and GM are distinctly different from open queue to Masters and GMS.

I play it every now and then to play DPS or tank which I normally don’t play

It’s just funny to me that people in OQ still spam “We need a healer”

Then go to Role Q and u get 2! Like u know what u signed up for haha… Shut up…:joy:

Competitive open queue is a joke.

I can say its not the case, from when i started yesterday, while my team mostly had a decent comp since i was playing with my team, the enemy teams even all the way up to games where we had several mid table masters people in both teams had games with no tanks at all, 1 support with 3 dps, 4 tanks 1 support, 3 supports 1 dps 1 tank, 4 supports 1 tank etc, out of like the 30-40 games we played maybe 5-10 max the enemy team had 3-2

OQ is the most fun i can deduce that much

ended on masters 5 closer to masters 4,

Im not arguing against that
