Thoughts on GOATS dominating OWWC?

I thought, with the nerfs to Brig and buffs to DF, the dominance of GOATS would die down a bit, but it seems that it’s still the go-to strat in the pro scene. Curious whether you guys are enjoying watching this? Wondering how this will play out.

I enjoy watching Goats personally. I don’t understand the DF nerf. He’s one of the few ways to break down Goats without much issue, so why are people clamoring for him to get nerfed? Wont this just make Goats stronger?

Honestly goats is the most boring comp to watch.
I tried Overwatch world cup viewer yesterday, it was really cool, BUT the matches were so boring, all it was, was people holding m1 with good aim.
Honestly I’m never ever watching wc again until goats is gone.
Also, since when was doomfist getting a buff?

Any meta without Mercy is well accepted from me.

It is just easy to play (and coordinate as) and I believe that appeals to these world cup teams who are, as far as I am aware, just sort of thrown together based on their nationality.

Yes, but people don’t necessarily think that through. Doomfist is good in GOATS because he A) doesn’t really care about armor or barriers, and B) isn’t going to get rekt as soon as he jumps in because of the overall lower damage when compared to, for example, Dive

As for watching GOATS… I really have no preference between watching GOATS vs Dive vs Beyblade vs Pirate Ship vs TwinkleTorb (made that one up), as long as it isn’t the only meta. For as much as people hype up “skill” and how skill-dependent Dive is, it was boring as all get-out to watch because you pretty much knew how every encounter was going to play out. And that’s really the problem–it’s not that Dive or GOATS or whatever is inherently the better strategy to watch, but that when they start dominating, they become predictable, and predictable is boring.

Significantly more boring than dive. Just another garbage plague Brigitte has brought on this game.

I turned off the bronze medal game. UK is the biggest residentsleeper team at the OWWC. Literally the only thing they can play is GOATS and it’s mind numbingly boring. I’ll tune back in for the finals.

Its fun to watch, the slow methodical but decisive way it can turn is fun.

There isn’t really anything impressive about it from a spectator PoV. Often times, big ults don’t really matter. Rein slams are huge but they are all served up by Brig and what not.

Keep in mind that at the highest level where everyone has the same mechanical skill the easiest comps are always going to be run. Teamwork is what wins games at that level and the easier the comp is to coordinate to more usage it will see.

You’re absolutely right. I just can’t believe viewers are that fickle. I mean every modern sport plays the same strategically and they get huge viewership numbers? Is the OW Esport fan base that whiny?

hopefully the goats spam shows people how problematic brigitte is since she enables it so hard and i wish the next ptr attempts to address it

i highly doubt it since doomfist, one of the few semianswers to it, is getting nerfed soon

GOATS is countered by Torb, Junk, Reaper, Pharah, Hog, and possibly Sym. I think people are just scared to experiment with solutions at that level in fear of losing.

I would argue that MMA does not play out the same strategically myself.

Torb and Sym are both dumpster tier and get walked over by GOATS. Builders are and will always be terrible and prone to getting snowballed, which is exactly what GOATS is all about.

Junkrat, Pharah, Reaper, and Hog are just a nuisance to GOATS. With the amount of healing and armor in GOATS, these heroes stand no chance. All they do is feed support ults.

The teams that thought they could do that lost badly. If anything this tourney proves that countering goats does not work.

exactly the opposite, actually

reaper is countered pretty hard by brig’s armor and cc

You literally contradicted yourself… So you don’t enjoy seeing coordinated teamwork?

I agree. Pros don’t want to take chances. They fall on what they know is strong. Don’t forget they’re being pressured by coaches and sponsors to win big.

True but there’s a limited number of strategies. OWL viewers would hate any fighter that goes exclusively submission. It just feels weird.

goats is boring to watch, tanks smashing each other, minimum skill involved. when watching pros play, I wanna see some close fights between skill matchups not this braindead wrestling

He’s getting a significant buff soon, and it’s more so a counter because it’s triple tank plus barriers. There’s plenty of other answers to armor.
