Would you consider Dolby Atmos worth the price? It makes foot falls more pronounced and doesn’t seem to make anything THAT much worse.
What are your opinions?

raw stereo is more accurate for me

My old headset had hardware Dolby audio and I got used to the sound of it after many years.
My new one is supposed to have the same, but they messed up on this model. I payed for the Windows software version and it does the job.
I like it.
I don’t activate the in-game setting though. That makes it sound awful for me.
The Atmos version through the microsoft store?
What do you mean worth the price? The game integrates support for it for free.
Yeah, that one. I always have it on.
The software encoder or whatever for windows spatial sound is, like, $15.
You dont need that to use it in Overwatch.
Not really that big a difference to be honest (on Xbox). I also prefer DTS for games and Dolby for movies. Although honestly the difference is minor.
I have the HyperX CloudX Wireless headphones for Xbox
You can turn on support for it in Overwatch but if you don’t own it on Windows it won’t actually use it and defaults back to stereo sound.
It’s nice but not a necessary for OW
I have the hyperX alpha, and I very much recommend the Dolby atmosphere sound. I don’t remember if it was 10 bucks, but its worth it for more than just Overwatch. But Overwatch definitely benefits from it.
Meanwhile I have no idea what you are talking about
That is incorrect. Overwatch ships with standalone support for the feature that does not require you to purchase it in Windows. Overwatch offered and supported Atmos on its own since launch, before Windows even had this feature available for purchase.
I dunno about that one. I definitely notice a difference when I turn it on in windows if it’s already on in Overwatch.
Thats because the two are conflicting and you’re basically applying post processing to audio thats directly fed into an Atmos stream. Atmos requires knowledge of 3D audio positioning so enabling Atmos externally to an application that officially supports it by using the APIs directly is not going to work as well.
Like I said, the feature has been supported in OW since long before the feature even existed for purchase in Windows, and I’ve been using it since long before that myself. It is fully functional without purchasing it.
I did some research on this and from what I found is that you do indeed need to purchase the Dolby Atmos to make full use of it, if what I’m reading is to be trusted. I can quote you my sources if you’d like, but its just Google research. I think that just enabling Dolby in menus in overwatch allows access to Dolby for the 3d positioning not necessarily uses the software.
You definitely do not. I dont think your sources are to be trusted.
The game has supported it built in since before the feature existed in Windows. You can’t have a prerequisite on something that doesn’t exist. I also do not own Dolby Atmos for Windows and there is a literal night and day difference when Atmos is enabled in game and I get full directional audio.
Meanwhile I do but Microsoft didn’t let me buy it because “I’m not old enough”
That moment when audio is 18+
