Thoughts on 5v5

Now that we’ve all had some time, what are your general thoughts?

Since no one asked here’s mine:

  • 6v6 had more strategic options and versatility. Or at least more nuanced expression of common strategies. (I.e you can still ‘dive’, but… It ain’t dive)
  • the game was balanced from day one on 6v6 and 5v5 has made that glaringly obvious with how well…off… The patch notes have been and how many heroes need to be re worked from the ground up.

Anyways, salty tank main rant over. My god I miss tank synergy.

Singular role with hard counters and weaknesses is garbage game design. Defenders can’t even strategically swap until they die and give up first point if the enemy switches to your counter.

Even as DPS it’s garbage since there’s near zero chance to vs a tank on your own. You’re just shooting an endless pool of health hoping they retreat.

And we all know how supports are barely able to survive with less peel.

Double shield gone, less broken ultimate’s, faster queues for dps beautiful. Once Hog and Tracer get nerfed games gonna be solid.

You forgot about Sojourn.

Sojourn already got a falloff and railgun damage nerf. She’s not as oppressive as Tracer.

They’ve literally done almost zero balance changes since July 15th, except for Kiriko stuff.

Like when writing this I actually forgot about the Ana/Mercy “buffs” that were pretty close to nothing.

They nerfed flankers Genji, Sombra making support easy but buffed Tracer for some reason.

Supports get to keep their broken passive but dps get robbed of theirs. Reload’s way weaker than health regen.

I think you also forgot about her compensation buff that rendered that useless.

Na Sojourns issue was her one shotting from Narnia, they got rid of that.

K.

I figure give everyone a regen passive, but DPS/Tanks need to be near a teammate Support to get it to activate.

And then make that 30% Ult charge be an exclusive thing for DPS again, because easy Tank/Support counterpicking is too problematic.

Then for Supports give them at least +15% extra movement speed as their passive

And then Mercy Pocket gave it right back. Oops.

Mercy needs a rework to remove damage amp/ rez her pockets broken.

Mercy is fine. I could see an argument for replacing her boost with attack speed, and arguably it’d be more readable anyway, but her rez is fine and iconic, and serves as valuable utility to make up for the fact that Mercy has about zero offensive potential.

The 5v5 is garbage. If you’re already used to it, you can switch to Paladins painlessly.
I want 7v7.

2-3-2 would be amazing. Hell, I’d be willing to try 2-4-2.

There’s no backup tank so if you get a tank that doesn’t synergize with the team, you may as well just end it fast so you can move on to another game where you hopefully can work with. Because the games already either unwinnable, or you’re going to have a flaming bad time.

Yeah, my DPS friends all agree with you on that. I’m happy for you.

I don’t understand why we can’t have both 5v5 and 6v6. Or even just 5v5 and 7v7 if they are too similar.

Salty tank main here too. I hate how their idea of having only one tank is to just remove weaknesses from tank heroes. Winston used to be short-range hero? Now he can snipe! Hog was vulnerable during ult? Not anymore! Rein had to be careful with his charge? He can cancel it now! Playing these heroes is just less fun now when the risk factor has been removed. And yes i miss tank duos too.

Honestly the most fun tanking experience I had in OW2 was playing Brig and bodyguarding the other support…

I was also hating on 5v5 but that last hot patch with +5 ammo on mercy glock fixed the whole support issue
