So a lot of overwatch issues are trying to ride the balance between fairness for competition and fun. Like clash, absolutely terrible mode from a fairness and competitive standpoint, but so much fun. Flashpoint, very fair, but just not fun at all. Almost every escort/hybrid is both, and push is kinda fair but not really and not usually all that fun.
I guess all of that is to say the biggest change i want is the ability to select modes I’m willing to play, especially in quick play. I should be able to decide if I care more about fun. That’s really the biggest issue for me in the game is constantly being forced to play modes/maps that I just really don’t like. It honestly makes no sense to me. Every other game you get to trailer your experience but in overwatch we are just at the mercy of the random number generator for which game we play.
I’ve gotten to the point that I’ll just take my 2 minute suspension instead of playing flashpoint. And I almost always get one because despite being 1/24 chance or whatever if getting one they come up about 20% of the time.
I swear they weight their games by splitting up modes evenly instead of maps, I’ve tracked it and it’s very obvious. It’s the one thing I want fixed more than anything. That and it would be cool to queue multiple modes at once and just go to whichever is fastest at finding a match. I’m pretty agnostic when it comes to QP, competitive, arcade etcetera I’m much more concerned about waiting for a game than the clout of the game mode. I play a lot more QP because it’s faster at finding me matches, but it would be nice if I could just queue for both.
But yeah please just let us not queue for every single map mode it’s honestly the reason I just turn off the game sometimes. Why do they want to force you to not have fun? Seems so counter intuitive. They have their heads on backwards.
Fun should always be the priority. A game that isn’t fun to play has no future.
And you’re right—giving players more ways to play the game how they enjoy most should be Blizzard’s top priority. Something as simple as letting us choose which game modes/maps we’re willing to play would be a major step in the right direction.
I’d take it even further:
- Solo players should have the option to queue only with other solos instead of being forced into stack games.
- PC players should be able to opt out of playing with/against console players.
- We should be able to queue for multiple game modes at once, especially in Arcade.
Of course, the obvious downside is longer queue times in the short term. But just put a disclaimer next to the queue button—like MR does for console players who don’t want to play against PC in QP.
The positives far outweigh the negatives. As I said, fun is the single most important thing for a game. If your game has fast queue times but players already want to leave before the match even starts, you’re doing something very wrong.
Somehow they are dead serious that if you are a total mayhem one trick, that removing it will make you play mirror dm, or qp or whatever.
Instead of just letting people play what they wanted to.
Do they hope people open the game to check only to boost monthly active users?
If anything having people wait in q for over 10min for less popular modes tells you enough about their idea of fun.
They wanna play the mode they enjoy, not the mode thats luckily available this week.
we can somehow also have 620 Workshop games in parallel. but not more than what 11 modes where half of it rotates?
Ehhh, I agree that we can say what modes are objectively fair, and which ones are not. Mainly clash. But as for the fun aspect of the modes, that is all opinion. For example I love push, I think it’s the most fun mode. I also think flashpoint is alright, and that clash is by far the worst mode, down there with 2cp. But that’s just my opinion on what I enjoy. Can’t really say what modes are fun for people, but can say which ones are more balanced / fair.
I’m assuming that is so the queues will be better. If people could pick from all say 20 arcade modes(idk how many there actually are) the queues would be longer for each of them. By having only 7 I think it is, more people will be in modes that are not their first choice. No idea what % but there certainly are people who would pick their 2nd or 3rd fav arcade mode when it’s there, but wouldn’t if the first is always there.
Right, that is sort of my point about getting to pick. I mean “fun” in the terms that the general consensus about a mode. For instance lots of people think clash isn’t fun while I do. So you should be able to opt out of not fun. It’s getting to the point for me where the fun modes happen less than I’m willing to put up with. I am willing to take time out penalties to not play a mode and I shouldn’t have to.
I mean all I want personally is hybrid and escort and maybe clash why can’t I queue for only those? On the other hand I want to queue for comp QP and mystery heroes all at the same time instead of narrowing my options by only selecting one. It would actually lower queue times.
Fun is an opinion, and everything you said isnt fun to me. Clash is a very boring mode tbh.
The no fun in this game comes from the nerfs to damage and buffs to survivability.
Fun ≠= Survival, especially when its all for support to live for as long as possible.
Personally I don’t like the idea of opting out of game modes, as that will increase the queue times for everyone. I am however in favour of some form of map/mode veto system. I am a big fan of the way halo 3 did it. It was simple, all maps still got played, just some to a lesser extent.
The way it work was it simply gave a map, and if 1 more than half the player voted to skip it, it would randomly give you another map and that is the one you played. I think it would work great in ow, as less popular modes would still get played, as even if they do get skipped often, other times skipping a different map would turn into say the clash maps. And it doesn’t affect queue times at all, form having people trying to queue or avoid a mix of different modes.
Fun should be a priority. “Balance” is a codeword for pleasuring boring people. You can have a game balanced where Genji is not useless. I suggest they “balance” that way. Yes.
The thread I responded to you in last night was wiped from existence.
So, in the vain of this thread, I will say fun and competition go hand in hand to the competitive person. Somewhere in time there was a push to remove the fun from competition by people who have never competed in anything. This lead to what Overwatch is today, and many other games.
My response that was wiped from the forums last night was;
I tried Marvel Rivals competitive mode, and thought it was pretty good. Didn’t play very long, and found it far less of a grind than Overwatch comp.
Also sent you a Bnet fiend request so when I speak to you it doesn’t end up vanishing.
It would actually lower the queue times. Because more people would queue.
If you queue for every map, and I queue for just hybrid and escort for instance, it doesn’t take you any longer to find games only the people opting out of certain maps. That’s the thing they don’t want me to have the option to wait longer to have fun rather than to wait less time to be stuck playing a game i don’t want or taking a 2 minute suspension for leaving. If I could just pre pick what I’m willing to play I just acknowledge that it might take me longer to find a match, doesn’t affect anyone who selects all.
Agreed. I have a lot of fun in competitive, but it’s just not always what I want. I think they out to take the non competitive maps out of competitive. For QP I think they are fine I just want to opt out of them.
OW should never have turned into a competitive game. The first mistake they ever made was adding a competitive mode at all. The game has suffered because they listen to actual manchildren when it comes to balance.
