Did they not make a change earlier this year or sometime last year that pushed solo players to be grouped with and against other solo players?
It’s not like I’m being put with a 5 stack either I’m literally getting in games with a 3 stack and two solo’s in MASTERS and getting put against people in a full group on the enemy team.
I never ever saw this happen in Overwatch 1, It was usually if it was me and 1 solo and 3 stack there was maybe a 2/3 stack on the other team. The only time I was ever put against a 5 stack that I can remember is when we already had a 4 stack on my team. AND THIS WAS BACK WHEN I WAS IN PLAT AND GOLD. Like Season 20, I’ve never seen this high of stacks since I hit masters around Season 24 and it has stayed like that until Overwatch 2.
What the hell is with this matchmaking this is so ridiculous.
True, OW1 was pretty good about it. Duo and trio on your team? Prob duo and trio on the other team.
OW2 though, well, not so much. And the phrasing as Blizzard describes it is what’s important - the matchmaker tries to match groups similarly, but we don’t know how long it tries before it gives up and just ships whatever it can.
I know I’m regularly put on teams with other solo players or at most a duo vs a 5 stack. Or 3 solos, 1 duo vs 4 stack, 1 solo.
It did happen in OW1 now and then, but it’s way more common in OW2. Just bring on the solo queue. GIVE IT.
How do you know they were a five stack? They don’t show who is in a group anymore. Sometimes though, it just feels like you’re up against a five stack because of their coordination vs your team’s coordination or if they are steamrolling.

The matching icons. Sometimes I invite and see. Sometimes I ask. Sometimes they have matching names. Sometimes you can tell just by how much they ramble. Quickplay? Crossplay game - 4 console players and 1 PC = 5 stack. 3 console players and 2 pc, invite both, both in group. 5 stack.
Take your pick.

Wait what? That doesn’t mean anything about whether or not they are grouped together…
Okay so an extremely tiny anecdotal sample pool vs the millions of matches played per month? Also, you’re probably not remembering the 99.9% of other matches you were in that weren’t. Biases are funny like that.
Or I do remember because sometimes I’m expecting it to be a group because they worked well together and I find the entire team was solo and my team had a 3 stack or otherwise.
As for the sample pool, well yeah. Of course it’s based off what I’ve seen in my own games. But you can dismiss it however you want, although I’m not sure why you seem so intent on disbelieving. I’m just saying Lasta’s experience has certainly been similar to mine.
