This year event feels a bit too american

Ironically, Lacrosse evolved from an ancient sport many of NA’s Native Americans held together for centuries. At least since the 17th century, before being molded by European settlers into what we know today.

So it is indeed an american sport. A Native American one.

“Opinions” have no influence over what is or is not true.

Baseball is actually WAY more popular in Japan than in America.

No. European team sports are : real Football (soccer), basket ball, rugby, hand ball, volley ball…

Hammond in Sumo outfit!

Imagine Hammond being fatter.

SO CUTE :heart_eyes::hamster::heart_eyes:

And he already have the Sumo wrestling emote too!

Junkrat and Lucio’s skins make sense because those sports are popular in the character’s home country.

Reinhardt is German and Roadhog is Australian… why are they playing American sports?

Why are you trying so hard?

You don’t care about these sports. Got it.

Some people do, some non-americans do.

You are provably wrong. Give up.

Lacrosse is basically hockey but with shoes instead of skates and on grass instead of ice.

Why does it matter? It’s not based in lore or real life, it’s just for fun. Quit being a fun-sucker.

Baseball is worldwide. Same with Lacrosse

Y’all don’t have a problem when they do the Chinese event though

Happy for Blizz to celebrate July 4th… but Summer isn’t a uniquely American celebration.

Not anymore. Clearly Blizz stopped giving a stuff about any of that a while ago.

Sorry if my questioning America’s entitlement isn’t fun for you.

cmonBruh, the fact that they don’t have a single football skin this year is just dumb. Football is by far the most popular sport played on literally every continent with pro leagues to go along with them.

How many countries have professional american football leagues that have similar status to football?

Come on, Blizzard. Where is Curling Mei?

Out of the entirety of all the nations that can play OW and you think the USA has the most players?

USA didnt even rank no.1 when the top 32 most skilled countries was listed, you were 3rd, behind Korea and China who most definitely have more players than the US.

Cricket is listed as the second most popular sport globally apparently. Id hazard a guess at Tennis is up there.

A quick google to confirm brings up a list of top 10 most popular sports GLOBALLY which are as follows

  1. Football/Soccer
  2. Cricket
  3. Field Hockey
  4. Tennis
  5. Volleyball
  6. Table Tennis
  7. Basketball
  8. Baseball
  9. Rugby
  10. Golf

numbers/countries/ further info can be found here

Soo by that reckoning and whats actually in ow sprays/emotes aside there is 5 sports above baseball that dont have recognition iirc.

Edit: A further google pretty much confirms that list with some slight variations, e.g cricket being 3rd instead of 2nd. American football actually falls anywhere from 9th on one list to 20th on another…

So that puts a spanner in what some in this thread think is popular and isnt haha

And non of the skins are exclusive to America

Are they characteristically German or Australian? No.

Did we exhaust the summertime activities that are popular in Australia and Germany? No.

Are Blizzard stomping all over their lore and the integrity of their character designs in order to pander to American players? Yup.

Even if skin sales fail, kotaku will still say the event is a success, the skins are amazing and players are to blame (just to answer to a few comments above me).
Yes, the skins are too American, but the game is not popular on EU like it used to be. That is the reason they did not try to accommodate EU on the OWL livestream times.
Some could argue that none of the games are popular like they used to be with the whole battle royale craze, but still, it is nice to get new things.
I personally do not like any of the new skins, not even the DVa one that people love. I am hard to please i guess.
