This is what y'all asked for

Since ow2 released I have been told: going f2p means quicker updates, letting kotick rinse us means the Devs will have financial support to keep evolving the game.

I have also played since 2016 (on console) and one of the biggest complaints I heard during this time is that blizzard just do things without asking for player feedback, massively changing balance and adding heroes that are broken.

Here we are in 2024 and blizzard finally gave everyone regardless of platform an opportunity to test new ideas, in the form of early access to a new hero and this hacked quick play, which is a temporary experiment btw.

And everyone cries ‘dEaD gAme’

Never change overwatch community,
NEVER CHANGE

Absolutely. As a console player, I cannot help but appreciate the fact that I am finally being treated like a human being and not an obligation. I am very happy that the free to play kids have finally earned us a place at the table and that we got to test Mauga at the same time as everyone else. This junior Overwatch Leaguer is extremely pleased and thankful for the opportunity.

So far I’m finding the experiment to be overall less fun than the regular ruleset, but you’re right, OP. It is cool that they’re openly experimenting again.

Let me know when you sober up and we’ll talk about it.

They already did that years ago. It was called the experimental card

Absolutely nobody asked for Quickplay to be taken away to make room for these kinds of wacky experiments.

No. I did not get to test a hero the same time as the rest of the community until Mauga. He was the first for us console peasants. Everything else was PC first as far as I am aware.

Very few people played more than one game on experimental, this is why they don’t use it anymore.

They want lots of data, this will give them lots of data, even people choosing not to take part is still giving them data.

Also they couldn’t test new heroes on experimental, they can now the mauga test was successful and now they are going to do it for every new hero.

You’re right. They can do that through experimental cards now though.

If they’re that desperate for feedback on their terrible ideas, give out coins as an incentive. They really have zero excuses.

Yes the pc exclusive PTR, I always remember waiting months after echo dropped on the PTR before us PS4 players got to try her out.

Man, I was thinking about it you an instruction set to give proper feedback.

But

  1. I’m sleepy
  2. I feel like I’m going to need to build a better way to get properly formatted feedback.

Honestly I don’t care if they did it like that. Few days isn’t even a big deal but some day they will screw it up big time and it will matter.
The correct way is to make it a side mode with good enough rewards to even care trying it (and it has to be fun to play too).

Also they don’t even do surveys nor read forums. How do they know if ppl even liked it.

By comparing how many people played before the mode with how many people were still playing during and after the mode.

There may be influx of players to check it out because is new. It doesn’t necessary mean they have enjoyed it.

I don’t appreciate the limitations to play here.

It’s not our job to play test any new experimental changes the devs want to add.

The experimental cards were nice, since we can choose to pitch in as volunteers.

So if Blizz is going to “freely” use us for what they should be paying teams of players for, then I want my paycheck dang it!

Even lab rats get paid better and at least get fed during their experiments.

That’s why the experiment is over multiple days, some people will enjoy it others won’t some will keep playing others will try different modes or games. More data = clearer data

Bad move getting rid of the most populated mode by a huge margin.

It never crossed your mind that QP is a favorite mode to literally 1,000s of players. And since it is the most populated mode by far compared to the rest that means the devs just alienated majority of their player base.

For 2 days.

Obviously it’s a risk. But they weighed it up and decided to do it, this is the stuff ow needs, risky sweeping changes.

I suspect the experimental didn’t actually work very well. Most players probably didnt even know it existed, and of those that did, most probably only played a few matches, if that. On the rare occasion like those content creator modes, some small fraction of players might like it enough to play it a lot.

While I’m sure it will annoy some people for the weekend, forcing it on everyone who plays front and center gives them a tremendous amount of data. Not only will way more people play, but they likely would also see a clear trend indicating how many people dont like it by measuring the dip in player queue numbers, and get a very direct and comparable number to other weekend player counts.

All very easily fixable issues. Place it on the main menu screen if you have to. Offer coins as an incentive. There are no good excuses for why this could or should not have been done through an experimental card.

Early access to a new hero was fun for people.

This is not fun for people.

Unsurprisingly, when something is fun the feedback they get is positive, and when something is utterly horrendous the feedback they get is negative.

Why is this difficult to understand? People are complaining because they’re not having fun. Complaining about people giving honest feedback is weird.
