So, the latest Dev blog came out today. I’ll link it for those who haven’t seen it. And I just want to say that what Aaron says about Jade weapons really disappointments me. Before I continue, this is what he said.
We’ve heard two primary complaints about 2024’s Competitive weapon reward, Jade Weapons. One of the biggest criticisms we’ve heard is how our Jade Weapon variants are getting vaulted at the end of this season. Competitive Weapons are intended to show your involvement in our Competitive Queues per year. As time goes by, you will have a different set of weapons based on how often you play comp each year. Keeping Competitive Weapons limited to the year gives them the ability to tell that story.
Now, I understand this perspective. But this is not what we want. I do not mind them becoming something you can buy with legacy currency like gold weapons. I expected it. But putting them away forever is just a terrible idea. I do not care about the intention to show involvement in a specific season.
First of all, there’s 43 heroes. You have to basically play the game for a living if you want it for more than a handful of those during the year. Second, what about heroes that come out in the future. What if I change mains and can never get a jade weapon for that hero because they came out in 2025?
This idea feels bad to me and I really hope they rethink it. This is not something they should stick to their guns on but actually listen to the player feedback. Clearly you hear us, but you aren’t listening to us. And that’s the problem in general with this game. You hear the feedback, but you don’t actually do what we ask. /rant
And if you like a lot of the heroes? Or a hero that doesn’t even currently exist but will in the future? Or a hero you like enough to spend the points on because it goes really well with a skin that doesn’t currently exist?
Idk I just think it’s a dumb decision. Rather ignore them altogether which is a shame.
I really don’t appreciate full on “Engage now or miss out forever” tactics in any game, one that’s so basic as gun skins on an expanding roster hero shooter just seems really shortsighted.
Locking something absolutely meaningless doesn’t make me as a legacy player feel appreciated or happy to have been here for it, it just makes me feel frustrated on behalf of the people that don’t and will never get a chance for it.
I felt the same way about Mythic skins, I feel the same way about event weapons in Genshin to show it’s not an OW exlclusive hatred.
Lacking Dodoco Tales while having Klee and my Albedo’s Cinnabar Spindle only reaching r3 haunt me.
People just want the weapons to stay in the shop permanently?
I think that would be nice. I don’t view the weapon variants as anything more than a simple recolor. Like applying a gold material from substance designer.
"We heard your feedback and Jade Weapons will be purchasable with Legacy and Competitive points in Season 15!
While we got a lot of positive feedback on the latest Director’s Take, people pushed back on our decision to keep Jade Weapons exclusive to 2024 Competitive Points."
The fact that they are wasting time even thinking about all this useless stuff shows whats going on.
When they should be working on the core game like pants on fire, they are sitting there sipping wine and debating why andromeda is better planet to live.
but the point is that casual qp player wanting that weapon will now play comp even though they dont want to even more hastily instead of stretching it out.
but honestly i dont care about all this , i have my gold weapons from ow1 for my mains and im happy.
what is comical is them spending time and resources making useless reworks on existing things then debating while the game is in severe danger.
Im really hoping for them to do the full moronity of hero bans in qp or something and more garbage sp9+ , then i will actually take tracer and hanzo’s memory and retire.
I would come back and grind through competitive if we had hero bans in this game.
Though im strongly suspecting that the big game play reveal is going to be some form of hero talents - Especially after the last dev talk / directors take they just did.
They emphasized how capable / diverse the last 3 heroes have been (Juno, Hazard, Venture), emphasizing how “3 dimensional” they are - And that the team is “looking into how we can make all of our heroes more engaging and unique for players”. Maybe theyll be hero specific modifiers like we saw during the halloween event, maybe itll be more in line with paladins where people can choose from the same pool of perks. But the way they worded what theyre trying to do, something for all heroes?
