This is genuinely sad

I just saw this video, that was obviously a joke, but it made me realize something. Overwatch is dying. Like dying kinda hard. Just shows how disloyal this fanbase is. Take TF2, a game that is 14 YEARS OLD, And still has a full dedicated fanbase who’s still hanging on after so long with no updates. It doesn’t have the social media presence it used to, but god dang it if I’m not impressed on how loyal the fanbase is. The overwatch community is, what?: leaving due to lack of content, full of toxicity and smurfs, people who complain and bash the devs for the tiniest little things. The community is what’s keeping TF2 alive, and the community and lack of content is why Overwatch is dying. I miss it when Overwatch had the “cult following” it did, even if that lasted only 3 years. Overwatch has been going so downhill, that people are saying PALADINS is a better game. I hope OW2 can give Overwatch back its glory. Lets hope the devs make something so good it lasts for more than a couple years.

I know this makes me sad too.

As an OG TF2 player, I really wish OW’s community was as loyal and supportive to the game as TF2’s

Cant blame the fanbase when they have been left abadon by the devs themselves. Thats the diffrence between tf2 amd OW.

Can’t be loyal to a game that hasn’t had contend in over a year, and which the balance is a mess

The only reason tf2 has loyal fans is because of nostalgia imo

I haven’t played TF2 - I was in Azeroth during TF2’s heyday - but I assume the players can make their own maps via Hammer. I’d have thought that helps.

Although I don’t know if a map maker would actually inject all that much life into OW, given that most of us seem to hang out in QP and Comp. Maybe if there was a stronger custom games scene that wasn’t gimmick modes it’d work.

The devs have betrayed the tank playerbase, there is no disloyalty to be seen here as far as i’m concerned

Blizzard doesn’t deserve a loyal and supportive community. They disrespected the fans and really dropped the ball on this game.

I see tf2 memes anf references all the time on the internet and new ones being made. Everytime theres a new meme trend a tf2 version is made. I cant tell you the last time I saw an overwatch meme somewhere that isnt r/Overwatch_Memes

I still get 30 second queues, I feel like there still quite a loyal player base

I just got a new map in the last couple months and it’s one of my favorite maps. So there’s that at least.

Brigitte. Doomfist. Sombra.
These are all post-release additions, additions that added nothing but frustration. In the case of Brigitte, that was really the turning point, where Overwatch started its decline.

I would also claim that the way Roadhog has been altered, that he is up there frustration-wise. One could argue that McCree has been there since release with Flashbang.

With the amount of BS the game added, is it any wonder the gameplay suffered? With devs like that, how can you expect players to be loyal?

can you link the video by chance

Game will be fine if we get some further balance fixes before OW2, and OW2 does a good job balancing tanking, healing, and damage for a 5v5 world.

Loyalty is earned, not freely given. If you want to be loyal to a company that not only disrespects its players, but their workers, well that says a lot about you.

Only 1?
Every single OW video right now is about how much dead the game is.

why you use “smurfs” as something bad? Smurfing is a legit way to have fun in the game and it exists in any competitive game.

How do you know those people aren’t there, except they’re overshadowed by the whiners? You think TF2 didn’t also have an incessant flow of complaints and “game is ruined” posts? The people that really meant it have gone, and those that enjoy the game remain. Luckily for them, there’s enough of them that they can still have matches. We’ll know 9 years from know whether OW will have enough as well.

This fun usually comes at the expense of others’ fun.

Tf2’s last major update was in 2017. Overwatch released in 2016…

It is always like that when you win - someone loses. Losing is not fun, so you compete for that fun by winning. Smurf wants fun more than others and he made his way up, investing more effective time to have it. If you want fun as well you have to l2p. But not learning to play (sitting in one rank forever) and say that smurfs are the issue…well, you are an issue for yourself then.

TF2 has been dead for years dude. It hovers around 10k~ active users, and servers are filled with bots.
