The game uses a randomizer to get you in a team, with people who play as gods and those who play like turds. Your influence in the match is based on how bad your teammates or opponents are. People can be stuck in silver on one account and are diamond on another. This chaos needs to end.

The matchmaker is terrible I’ve seen almost diamond almost plat playeron and against my team recently but speaking of rng I swear the firebase z easter egg is impossible the mimic step makes me want to cry.

Eventually the MM gets confident in your skill and will do whatever it can to keep you there. It’s one of the reasons for so many smurf accounts. Players can certainly improve but it takes real dedication and sacrifice beyond just playing the game every day for a few hours.

To compound the issue, ladder is irrelevant anyway. The sheer number of alt accounts and smurf accounts skew the ladder to the point where it has been destroyed. Top 500 is more like top 100. When everyone has 2-5 accounts, you have people taking up multiple slots where someone else might have naturally risen to, artificially skewing the ladder along with the statistics that determine how performance based SR gains and losses are calculated below diamond.

I just wished, I could give you my screen-shots of endless losing streaks where the whole row is red from bottom to top, but alas, you have to take my word for it: There is definitely something broken in this game and it is not the players.

Tbh I think it’s pretty easy to slowly climb your way through the ranks. If you’re falling a decent amount of SR you’re likely not as good as you think you are.
The problem is people expect to win almost every game and for climbing to be a breeze when in reality climbing is about winning some, losing some, but then winning more. You’re not gonna go on some 20 game winstreak and climb out of Gold in 1 day.

The trick to break these streaks is to play a hero you are mediocre at for a game or two, which will lower your hidden MMR (this changes independently of your SR and basically determines whether you will face people who are outliers (either very skilled for the rank or underskilled for the rank) in your particular SR range over the next few games).
The more games in a row you carry, the more difficult your opponents will become as the system tries to keep you in the same spot by testing you to see if you’re really getting better or if you’re just having a few good games.
I’ve started rotating heroes a bit more - I will play Pharah for a few games and then play Ashe, who I am decent with but not as good as I am with Pharah. I still get loss streaks but they aren’t as vicious since I’ve started doing this.
Climbing is very, very slow in this game, net SR gains over time are very slim.

This is a majorly luck based game, your skill matters but only over a VERY large amount of games played which will even out the luck factor.
Most people don’t have the time to accumulate such amount of games in the span of 2 months, hence why comp is such a mess rn due to most people are not accurately enough placed and are still in the “average out the luck factor” phase.
