This game *really* needs a ranked solo queue

Ok, so once upon a time I had a few friends who played this game, we played together it was fun. But these days its just me.

So why is it that ranked game after ranked game, i’m at best the one solo q guy on a team, but very often on a team of all solo players against a whole enemy team? And even if both sides are team, i’ll be the solo q dps vs a solo q tank?

At an absolute minimum there’s the advantage of playing in a known team and coordinating, at worst its blatant cheating with smurfs or hackers boosting their mates. Of course this can be a problem anyway, but its blatantly worse with grouping.

Many of these problems quickly go away in a solo q environment. Hackers and smurfs will still be there of course, but without the baggage of their crap mate they’re trying to boost, they will disappear to their actual rank, in the case of hackers from which they’ll be banned.

So why can’t solo Q be a thing? I get that a 4-stack needs a solo q to make up the team, but if blizzard think that too many solo q players would move to a separate mode if it was introduced - well then that tells you what a problem it is.

I’ll never understand solo players that want to lock out players from queuing together… in a multiplayer game…

I understand what you’re staying but it still doesn’t make sense, yet it says a lot about our society’s current state and how self-centered we slowly become.

I guess what you’re asking for will happen someday (in other games) but it’s gonna be damaging to multiplayer gaming (and gaming in general as it’s supposed to bring people together).

Anyway, to answer your question, I’m not sure this will become a feature on Overwatch simply because it’s too late to implement it, now that the game is 8 years old with a decreasing population and also 6v6 and 5v5 soon co-existing in 2025.

There are not enough active players on Overwatch anymore to have that many separate queues. We already have a lot of them because of Role Queue, many different game modes and different ranks (for those that still play Competitive in such an old game, like you do - and I’m not criticising it, just stating a fact).

I hope you’ll find an easy way to cope with…simple people wanting to play together as friends…

I mean I literally suggested a separate mode, not the removal of the one that exists. So please stop with the strawman nonsense.

I support your opinion and many people may avoid this post but overall it makes sense to me because I have a feeling that ONE DAY this could be a reality. Really when you play deathmatch its already a solo queue.

Yet I made a post bout this very same thing and with the way people are this seems to be the reason for cheating. I know, it sounds crazy but if people felt they had more control over their situation and did not have to rely on anybody else then they would feel better about the game.

Truthfully, if this had been a SOLO game would overwatch be where it is? I think so. It may not be as popular but it still would sell because somebody wanting to go solo feeds the person’s ego. People want to feel like they are better than other people and a solo queue would give them the chance to put their ego in overdrive because why should a TEAM shine when I AM THE CHOSEN ONE?

What bragging rights eh?

And you do have good point about the hackers and the boosting going on, it would decrease but not elminate it but I can see it impacting the results you get.

it’s not about that at all. sometimes, you just want to play a game, without en mass e-sports level of co-ordination type of sweating. you know… have fun playing a game, even in the comp scene.

in comp, i’ve seen it meany times that people are sweating so hard - in low gold - they actually end up compromising the match, and they believe that they are the good people in the lobby. and when it’s a team of that mindset, it doesn’t set a good mentality for the whole session.

or also, your regular team, could be a reason why you’re not doing well in-game. whether its casual distractions, or they are actually just… bad compared to yourself. so you just want to play by yourself while also having a reflection of your skill

It’s still an issue for grouped players because they will be sitting in half hour long queues if we split up Ranked like that. That’s probably what Presley5 means by “locked out”.

Me personally, I don’t feel much sympathy because I already have long queues as a solo player and min-maxing groups in high ranks have ruined all goodwill I had for them.

“You just don’t have any friends.” We play QP and have a great time, no long queues and no screwing up the matchmaker for the poor suckers on the enemy team with no comms and no teamwork.

It still excludes people in a premade, in a multiplayer game… Such a separate mode shouldn’t exist… in a multiplayer game.

I guess you haven’t read my post or haven’t understood it at all… ?

I appreciate it’s a problem. But the reality is anyone solo q at the moment is at a significant disadvantage as the “filler” guy vs whatever random compositions of teams. At worst as I pointed out, a whole team of solo’s vs a 5 stack - obviously I can’t tell if it’s a 2/3 or a 5 but it happens often enough that I don’t think the 5 stack vs solo’s never happens.

While solo q is the obvious and easy way to get a ‘fair’ queue, I accept that its not necessarily the only one and it splits the player base. But the alternative is people stop playing from frustration. As I’m very much on the verge of, and have done in the past (literally stopping playing for years until there’s enough novelty in new heroes to come back)

At the very least, Blizzard need to look at the stacks on each side being same size, same roles.

No it doesn’t. They’re still playing exactly the same way they always have. Additional modes exclude no-one.

That’s the point.

It’s a solo queue. not for people in groups

People can still solo queue in Overwatch just fine.

However, it’s not up to those people to decide whether other players can play in a premade or not… no should they be given the right to ask for a separate game mode that excludes premades, in a multiplayer game.

There’s no such term as “sweating” or “not sweating”. We play the game to have fun and win. Of course there are people that don’t really commit while playing but this can happen both in QP or Competitive.

There is no incentive to play seriously or not. It’s up to everyone to decide how invested they are and can be at a given time.

No idea what this has to do with having a specific “solo queue only” game mode or not. What you describe is just a toxic player. Sometimes it’s the premade that are toxic, sometimes it’s the one player that solo queued and thinks they’re better than anyone else.

I created an alt account to play with my friends that had a lower rank a few years ago and kept my main account to mostly solo queue (though I had a period when I would duo queue a lot).

There’s just no issue with that.

Again, OP wants a ranked solo queue that excludes other players from playing in a premade which makes no sense in a team-based multiplayer game such as Overwatch.

if OP doesn’t want to play in a premade, it’s fine but being over-controlling and wanting to keep other players from playing together, no matter if it’s a separate game mode, is just wrong on so many levels… Especially now that the game has a decreasing population.

It will become a long queue mess again and people playing in prmeades (as they should in a multiplayer game) are going to be penalized.

There are challenging solo games out there that exist, if people can’t stand people playing in a premade in a multiplayer game… Just saying…

That shouldn’t be a thing in a multiplayer game, period… especially not a game like Overwatch that doesn’t have enough active players anymore.

I don’t agree and I still think this is just a selfish move and that players like you play multiplayer games for the wrong reasons. Excluding premades is bad for any multiplayer games that exist.

You should stick to solo games in my opinion. There are some that are quite challenging and that you might like.

Good thing you know it is an opinion, and therefore easily discarded. :+1: Not everything in Overwatch is made to house pre-mades, there are several modes that don’t allow for groups.

I wonder why that is. Maybe at least in part because solo q players are actively discouraged from playing.

Yeah like I said, multiplayer games are going to be doomed in the future if that kind of mindset becomes mainstream…

Witch-hunting and excluding IRL friends / online friends from playing in popular ranked game modes is going to be real…

you say that, yet you didn’t have the critical thinking as to why i said what i said in my entire post.

it doesn’t exclude premades because its entirely designed to not allow premades groups in a solo queue. some people dont want to play in a group and then would have an environment entirely catered to that group

Nope, it’s because the OW community is entitled and complains 24/7 as they can’t handle the slightest thing that doesn’t go their way in terms of balancing the game or releasing new content.

It has nothing to do with solo queuing and premades.

Cheaters are a thing now basically because it’s a 8-year old game and people don’t care about losing accounts and also because it has become a F2P game.

Can’t let go of the strawman can you?

No one wants to do this. I just want something that’s more fair for solo q players who don’t have the luxury of people who still play the game. As you point out, the player base has decreased. Your attitude is what’s not helping with that, not mine or any other player who tends to solo q.

Sounds like you’re mentally burning some bridges that haven’t even been built yet but maybe if you repeat yourself again with another insult I might find your opinion more compelling.

This is the reality you want.

Players are going to choose solo queues in ranked and devs will catter to them more and other premade queues (no matter the game) will be empty or full of people throwing.

It’s the exact same thing as Role Queue and Open queue. Devs don’t give any importance to Open Queue and don’t even balance heroes to make it playable.

But rooting for this, that’s what will happen to people playing in premade. People playing together in a multiplayer game shouldn’t be cast aside or penalized because of people wanting a specific game mode where it’s forbidden to play with friends.

This argument doesn’t make sense. You just don’t like the idea of people knowing each other and having more synergy. I have no doubt you get mad at any game you lose because of a bad premade in your team or a strong premade in the enemy team.

But you will never admit it.

You just think about yourself.

I think about the bigger picture : the integrity of multiplayer games in the gaming industry.

Exclusive solo queuing in multiplayer games doesn’t make sense and will just incentivize people playing alone in front of their screens and not socializing. It’s the worst thing ever, especially in current society with all the problems we already have with connecting to other people (and where our politics are heading in general).
