I really think this game lacks a good representation of a rogue/assassin style hero, which many people love to play. Sombra has stealth, but it’s not really the burst damage fantasy typical of a rogue or assassin.
Some sort of hero who sneaks into the backline, picks off a high value target at melee range, and escapes would be incredibly cool and fun to play. Please consider it blizz, it’d be really neat and I’d have lots of fun
Theres plenty of ‘assassins’ but they dont fit the steroetypical aesthetic or skillset.
McCree, Sombra, Reaper, Tracer… all ‘rogues’
I made a topic full of abilities and ultimate about this topic for an assassin character.
I dont really think it’s the same thing. An assassin is something more along the lines of sneaking around and one shotting people with a backstab or something, like spy in team fortress 2
They specifically made it so Sombra’s dps was low so this wasn’t possible, they considered it unfun as you have no means of defending yourself nor knowing what is happening until its over.
I think that’s a bad attitude though. It’s possible to make it fair, but it might take some outside-the-box thinking.
Flankers already fill this role … lets keep TF2’s Spy out of Overwatch.

The current assassin heroes are Genji, Tracer, and Doomfist (and others). A hero that has the burst potential of these heroes plus the stealth of Sombra would be too powerful in a game like Overwatch. Proof of this are clips of Widowmakers in OWL flanking and one-shotting a whole enemy backline. If you make it too easy to do that, then you end up with a hero that’s too powerful.
If you want a hero that plays like the hero you described, try flanking as Reaper. Reaper can 2 or 3 shot enemies pretty easily and has an easy escape with wraith. If you can TP behind, you can easily set up a kill.

YEah such a great idea! Another OHKO hero that will make the community and forum go berserk like old big hitbox Doomfist and old combo Roadhog

Their jobs are to sneak around back and stealthily take care of the enemy from behind.
I stand by them all being rogues.

Genji used to have sword as his primary weapon and worked exactly like this.
An assassin sneaks around back and kills/distracts the enemy from behind.
Id say they apply.
But how would you like to be in the backline and just die from an unforseeable danger out of seemingly nowhere. Doesn’t seem fun to not play said rogue.
And doesn’t Sombra fill this role pretty well already?

To be fair, this already happens alot. Stop paying attention for one second, and boom, headshot, or youre splattered on the wall cus of doomfist.
But i agree, if a character like Sombra could one shot with a ‘backstab’ out of invisibility, there would be no end to the salt, which is why i imagine they took Genjis sword away (as Mel said) and made Sombra take time to kill.

Tracer doesnt really “sneak,” she just harasses.
I think Sombra is general thought of as the rogue in the game.
Rogue would be the most un-fun character to play against, or it would be absolutely useless. There’s no way to balance that type of character without one or the other.
