I’m curious if anybody here agrees with me or not that the game is currently too frustrating or tilting to play.
I didn’t play OW for months and having come back to it, I don’t think anythings going to change. I had a lot of fun with OW, but right now why would I play this over something that’s much less frustrating? I think how little control the player has is hurting the playerbase, players don’t like to feel like they’re unable to do anything without team co-ordination and all the problems that come with trying to accomplish that.
It’s also beyond frustrating now with all the shields, burst and cc that’s in the game, just one obnoxious example, you’re attacking on Hanamura point A and you’re against an Orisa, Pharamercy, Junkrat and DVA.
It doesn’t matter who the other heroes are because it feels like the amount of effort that goes into disrupting this setup, or anything like it is so huge, while being so easiliy counterable.
I’m not saying this is a balance issue specifically but there’s just way too many things in this game that takes away your choice and you’re personal skill, cc will probably kill this game to be honest, at least from my perspective, but I could be wrong.
To add to this, there’s also the meme of low skill cieling heroes being able to do way too much, aka Brigitte, I don’t know about Hammond, I haven’t really played him.

Basically why I quit too.
They did a great job on making a lot of heroes really fun to play, but an absolutely awful job of making heroes fun to play against.
This is their first entry to the shooter genre, and I think they basically just tried to copy over what worked for them in other genres, without really getting what makes a PvP shooter work.
In general, CC, mindless spam and unpredictable mobility frustrate people. It’s also the case that people in the shooter genre like shooting things in general. Expecting to only have one third of your team wanting to play dps is just unrealistic, and qp games often become contests of which team is willing to have the least fun in order to win.

It will only continue along this trend as more and more heroes release in the future. Giving a scenario like you did with Hanamura, people would respond to it with a specific composition for you to use that would give you an advantage. The problem is that Blizzard balances Heroes as a sole Hero, and i personally think they do not take into consideration every single interaction that that particular hero has with every other hero in the game and balance it around that. The problem lies where as more heroes are released with specific types of gameplay, e.g. Sombra, Pharah, Mei, Hammond, Doomfist, Symmetra etc, you will need to either outclass the enemy team as a whole or pick a specific composition that would net you an advantage when going against them. Which they in-turn can change to counter you. It’s becoming a game more catered towards dedicated players rather than the casuals as winning requires a lot of game sense, knowledge of hero interactions and of course the skill to execute. As more and more heroes release with stuns, knock-ups, knock backs or any new type of CC that will be introduced in the future you will need to adapt, improve and be well-informed of comps and counters or you will not get very high in Competitive.
Same I uninstalled because it’s just so frustrating to play now. I used to have so much fun when I first got the ow a year ago now i can’t play it anymore. Ever since season six the game became UNBEARABLE.
You’re not alone
It’s literally becoming paladins unbearable. Like last time I play ow a month ago it felt like I was playing fu*cking paladins with all the cheap gimmicks and op easy cancer.

Well it could be the stupid amount s of CC they keep adding to the game like the shield bash that allows Brigitte to destroy. Idk just a theory.
CC is frustrating because it forces you somewhere you don’t want to be and almost all heroes have it. In overwatch where positioning is key, CC makes it very frustrating because you could’ve been positioned yourself perfectly but oh that hook says you didn’t or nope whip shot says no.
They need to lay off adding constant CC with every new hero they add because CC is the casue to most problems.

So, what, you would remove the barriers, cc and and burst from the game? What would be left to stop the flankers? Lol. Remove CC, but then remove mobility, too. Then we got a game close to CSGO…fun.
Hammond is definitely not low skill btw.
Game is frustrating, but then, which one isn’t? Simcity 2004 isn’t, I guess. Unless the AI fails and your city isn’t developing how you set it up.

Lot’s of games aren’t close to as frustrating as OW.
League and CSGO feel fair to me, it feels like I can carry if I’m good enough, when I die I feel like the person outplayed me or it was entirely my fault.
League and CSGO doesn’t have an abundance of CC to make me feel like I can’t even play the damn game, in League especially I’m not forced to have impeccable teamwork just to be able to win a fight, or in this scenario just to push past a choke point.
Even Riot who are the development team behind League realized the game swayed too heavily on team work and not giving the player the ability to carry, while I didn’t cover this specifically in my post I think the overreliance on teamwork is also hindering OW.

Well I can’t argue with that. One of the things I liked in Dota2 was that I could even win 3v5 games. The game allowed it.
But that doesn’t mean other competitive games aren’t frustrating. Nobody likes losing, especially when your sense of justice is triggered in any way.
CSGO has no abundance of CC, but then it also has no abundance of mobility like Tracer’s blinks.
The issue is really unpredictable mobility. Like Overwatch should definitely not be CS slow. But, its mobility options should be high skilled and highly trackable to keep it fun.
Take rocket jumping in other games, that doesn’t make the game less fun and you don’t need stuns to counter it.
I wonder, aren’t (or weren’t) you a top 500 player because you managed to overcome the game’s difficulties?
agreed… frustrating and well…the worse it can be…boring. the game is boring…game modes are boring, too much healing and shielding is boring, maps are boring…
i don’t think they can fix it, or if they are even able to
Mmm, most of my time in the t500 was down to playing easier heroes and avoiding challenges. Playing Mercy or Moira or whatever.
I did reach 4300 as Tracer and Hog too though, which I guess comes down to overcoming difficulties.
Why?
Because if you managed to get so high then complaining about mechanics sounds strange coming from someone like you. That’s like saying “I won the race, but it was unfair towards me.”
It’s a design issue, not a balance issue.
Just because I’m good at it doesn’t mean it’s fun.

I see. Well, you seem to be playing a lot, considering it’s not fun.
Why punish yourself, then?
I stopped playing and went back to tf2 a while ago. I WANT to come back to OW, but they need to sort this stuff out.

It’s not just the CC or whatever. People have been quitting before Moira/Brigitta when their main complaints were “Too many tanks/shields” or just dying fast.
It’s simply just a frustrating game to play because it requires you to not only be on point but have team mates also be on point. Once you’re down a man its essentially over.

I don’t play much, so I don’t get burnt out easily. I don’t really feel like playing atm, though.
But don’t worry, the game might be playable in maybe a few years, given it will still be alive.
That’s true but winning doesn’t matter too much in QP. If I’m in a team that looks like they want to win, then I will pick something responsible like Orisa. If they are picking joke heroes then I will pick a joke hero too. Sometimes we will still win or sometimes come close. Either way, it’s more fun playing whatever you feel like.
