This game finally made me delete it

ADD: From what I have read, it does appear to be a p2p issue but part of this seems to stem from joining parties/grouping. It’s easy to defend against, from what I understand, but the possibility of it happening, specific to xbox, is very real.

I think it’s simple enough to say “it probably isn’t directly by grabbing someone’s name, and there are likely other measures involved” rather than everyone expressing emotion over this…

If someone with the knowledge could objectively explain, in kind, how DDOS’ing someone on xbox DOES work (with success) vs how it is impossible to work, we would all have a better and clearer picture of the problem (and there is one, as is commonly reported) and we could all move along.

Clearly there are variables here that we haven’t considered, but I do wish ego would be dropped in favour of coming to a concise conclusion on the issue.

ADD:

The reason it may not work for some tags is they may already be protected/using a vpn… and again is not exclusive to OW, so much as Xbox.

From another thread:

As well:

So we can see it is a possibility, as Spring mentioned it must be p2p, but this CAN happen on xbox platform through p2p means that can occur. Ultimately it is up to the player to take precautions when interacting with people they do not know or trust and ultimately there is a real issue regarding this although it is not exclusive to OW or due to OW specifically.

Regardless of this, there is a website that is pulling up IP’s and, for all intents and purposes, seemed to work in some circumstances.

The variability surrounding those circumstances however are likely due to negligence and ignorance. It should be, however, kindly insinuated or suggested that a vpn/change of IP/avoiding grouping with untrustworthy or unknown players are good deterrents and defenses against this happening.

How easy was that?
