Can anyone explain to me how when I was silver 5, after my next rank change it said I went from bronze 3 to bronze 1? Pretty sure this whole system is broken, it is definitely not an enjoyable experience.
(Half changed a sentence and it made no sense lol. fixed it)
Long explanation short. I’m assuming new to comp.
Now this has nothing to do with the matchmaking itself.
Your rank has a profile you cant see called an MMR profile. Your profile after initial QP games prior to ranked play usually puts you silver gold if you have average stats. Your shown an average SR if you have average stats. silver/gold/plat
Once you play its adjusts the MMR profile more rapidly than your SR.
So to recap. you have a visible SR and an invisible MMR profile. The MMR rating moves faster than SR.
MMR profiles are based on A LOT of data. W/L rates on map types, Personal stats, Most likely W/L in certain matchups, and a bunch of other data we aren’t sure and can only speculate on.
If your MMR drops lower than your SR on the next rank calculation your SR will drop to adjust with the swing of your MMR profile.

I don’t think you understand my post.
I was Silver 5 before completing my next 5 wins to rank up again.
After completing those 5 games, it said I went from Bronze 3 to Bronze 1.
Why would it say I moved from Bronze 3 to Bronze 1 when I was Silver 5?
I get what you’re saying. You were silver 5 and without warning it pretends you were Bronze 3 moving to Bronze 1. If anything it should have said Silver 5 moving to Bronze 1.
As to why this happened, I don’t even think the matchmaker developers know what the matchmaker is doing at this point. I think they go in every couple of months and delete lines of code and cross their fingers that people will like it.
It’s probably not “broken” in the sense that it’s most likely intentional by design. But yes, it is a really bad experience to get your time and effort wasted intentionally. Gaslighting as a business model should be avoided by anyone that has a modicum of self-preservation instinct and self-respect left.
its a glitch being experienced by players in all elos, and for some reason a lot of support players:
