Third-Person View

Hi Blizzard,

Can we just get 3rd person view? I know people are going to say …blah it’s unfair, but
if EVERYONE can do 3rd person view option, then it’s fair. Who cares if you can see on side of walls, rein/ball can already do that. so just let everyone do it.

First person hurts a lot of people’ eyes too… just let us have 3rd person view. This way, we can also see our own skins that we paid for.

You do NOT want to play this game in third person, trust me.

Not exactly. Someone behind a wall can see you coming before you can see they are behind it.

All of which have melee range in 3rd person.

3rd person is not necessarily bad (paladins even did it but then removed it for some reason) but the game also needs to be designed around it.

Nah it’s just not fun. It moves the game towards cheesing around corners which I wouldn’t want.

Yes, some characters can do it already, but it’s only some.

3rd person mode has been made in custom games, while fun to mess around with. The game overall doesn’t really work or play that great in 3rd person.

If it was an option sure, but what about precision shooting heroes like Widowmaker, Ashe, Genji, Solider: 76, Illari, etc? That would be real tough to play them.

make it an OPTIONAL view you can use/toggle between

The game feels horrible in 3rd person in custom games and it’s just outright unfair, I’m glad it will never be an option

Ya the ones that can cheese corners are ones that cant take advantage of it. (Like Brig(melee)/Rein(melee)/Ball(transition to gun form) Imagine a Mcree with this hurt me a little. (Ashe/widow scopes so wouldn’t be able to take as much advantage as Mcree)

Edit: sorry habit. He is called Cassidy now. (you can tell how long I have been playing this game lol)

The reason 3rd person “feels bad” is because the camera only exists on the server, instead of being built into the client like a proper 3rd person camera.

So, the “bad feeling” you are getting is simply from lag. That and there is no way to align the camera exactly to where you are aiming without using a raycast, which only adds to the latency.

Source? I’ve built several dozen different third person cameras in workshop across the years, including various versions with smoothed effects to help “ease” the bad feeling you are talking about.

I cannot think of a bigger buff to tracer than third person mode lol.

3rd person requires FAR more effort than blizzard is willing to put in this game. Not to mention the biggest obstacle: console limitations.

It’s actually quite easy to build a third person camera.

The key word here is competence, which I do not think Blizzard truly has.

They already have it integrated, it’s just a simple button they have to do.

Think of spectating mode, every character already has 3rd person view they can use; you just toggle between views using space bar

next time you’re spectating someone, think of how it would play — I don’t think it will break the game or any crazy changes

That wouldn’t even happen in this game, because it’s not like you can just poke out and 1 shot headshot someone, lol.

I can “peek” around a wall by just stepping out. Maybe I get shot, then healed, but, lol. It’s not even a big advantage in a game like this. Or, any advantage, at all.

completely agree with this perspective!!!

No, no we can’t. This isn’t something most of us would even want. If you do want it, I have good news for you. Marvel Rivals is in 3rd person so you can go play that when it comes out.

I’ma leave a no here.

Go play the custom game so you can be as “no” as everyone else.
You’re not the first to think this, they went out and made the custom mode.

Aaaaaaanditsgone

Yeah, it really wouldn’t break anything. You would think the devs would make third-person an option in workshop settings, to use the built-in camera instead of having to make it.

Overwatch was meant to be a third-person game anyway. The players get a plus one, they can see their skins, and it adds new ways to play. Honestly, imagine how much better players would play if they could see around corners. Would solve the int-down-mid player problem in a nick.
