Think about how this all started

Think back to the launch of overwatch 2, as soon as the first patch hit and the first games were played, tanks were counted as raid bosses, most dps were viable, and according to support mains, support was terrible.

monkey dva zarya, genji sojourn tracer, kiriko lucio, were all hard meta, and id say wholeheartedly every time that if sojourn and kiriko didnt exist at that time, that wouldve been the best patch the devs released since the game started.

heres where the chain reaction explosion started.

Genji got nerfed, people started finding out hog was op as hell, season 2 map pool was entirely made up of sniper maps.

the new meta was hog widow ashe or hanzo or sojourn, and any support comp that enhanced poke.
this meta was god awful, not only was the only natural predator of hitscan was hard nerfed, but any dive tank that attempted a dive was hard countered by hog.

nearly everyone hated yet the reason this all started was because of dive nerfs that they asked for…

so for around 4-5 god awful seasons widow finally got a nerf, dive seemed to be getting better, oh wait, brig got giga buffed, bap got giga buffed, support players finally started understanding how to play their extremely OP role and dive was in the gutter again.

so for another 3-4 seasons we were stuck playing poke/bunker comps and sniper maps were virtually unwinnable if you werent playing a poke comp against poke, dive was just outsustained and outdamaged, brawl was just brawl so it didnt even have a chance.

now we are in present, where the game has been extremely dumbed down to level the playing field between tank/dps vs supports.
so instead of giving the much deserved nerfs to supports, the skill ceiling of the game was forcibly lowered, as someone who plays all three roles religiously i hate this patch.

this is now the current style of gameplay.

play cover, spam, sit back and shoot.

and to those who still play dive, play cover, poke, potentially dive, then escape while people hit the dumbest shots possible on you.

this almost feels exactly like season 2 except its not only on sniper maps anymore.

as someone who fell in love with the mechanics of the game rather than strategy this just feels boring. even if my hero pool is objectively better, they are better for the wrong reasons and they dont feel good to play, i can no longer make big plays that feel satisfying, i can no longer provide solo carry potential, and if a tank dies the only option left is to retreat, you cant pull off those big plays anymore without sheer luck.

so i think im gonna be taking my leave until they revert this patch or give us 6v6.

5v5 is not the format we need or want, its inferior and it doesnt work.

this is all my opinion, id love to hear other people’s stances, though i know that alot of people love this patch, its mostly because support arent warlords anymore, but my issue with this patch is something else entirely, the game no longer has its magic so to say.

I have no idea why you people see the launch of Overwatch Dos with rose tinted glasses, but it was always problematic. And a viable Hog is not a meta Hog. Even the developers had a better grasp on balance than the community which is simply pathetic. People are far too biased and that’s a problem when Blizzard actually listens to these delusions.

like i said, best patch doesnt mean good patch, 5v5 is just not a good format.

hog was hard meta in season 2, and if hes meta in a 1 tank system that means he shuts down any form of dive which is not healthy whatsoever.

yes, the devs listen to casual players more so than any credible player, and if they do, they do it in a blizzard way.

Would you be down to try a version of 6v6 Open Queue that doesn’t have GOATs?

Open Queue Hacked

  • 6v6 TeamSizes
  • 2x max Tanks per team
  • 2x max Supports per team
  • 6x max DPS per team

Exactly, which is why they nerfed Hog when he was underperforming. :skull:

most likely, ive already tried a version of 6v6 through customs and it was great aside the laggy mess that it was since the engine wasnt made for 6v6

i agree, it was fun in some ways but kiri was busted, sojourn was busted.

some heroes were viable more so because people were still adjusting to things.

season 9 is imo the best season so far of ow2 and its in a large part because the dps and support roles are now equal in power, the tank kinda evens out in most situations so they still lose but they didnt get worse (unless the tank is bad ofc, those ppl feed and die every chance they get)

5v5 by design is really hard to balance because you have to somehow make the tank not explode so the healing output has to be crazy high (combined with powerful dmg mit abilities) but then you somehow also have to figure out how to make it so that dps can kill things without one shotting

season 1 failed at this, but people think fondly of it cuz everyone was having fun but it was just as bad as the other patches people just hadnt figured things out yet.

season 9 has actually succeeded so far, the tank role can still explode but not nearly as bad as it would be if they had simply globally nerfed healing 20-40%

so the dps passive sort of evens things out, now they just gotta figure out how to make the tanks a lil less support dependent while maintaining their gameplay, and they could actually make the game great
