Things I learned from the SteelSeries OWL tournament

  • Games are mostly decided by DPS
  • D.Va is extremely team dependent, even moreso than I thought
  • Tanks get melted, but we all knew that already
  • Bap is more powerful than I thought
  • Rush is coming back
  • Low tier OWL teams have improved

For those of you who didn’t watch it, it was a tournament consisting of the Boston Uprising, Paris Eternal, London Spitfire, and the Los Angeles Gladiators.

Weirdly, it looked like Rein was almost a must-pick…

Where might I get the replay codes?

I don’t think the replay codes are up yet, but these are the streams:

Stream #1: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/931983610
Stream #2: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/932070257

The reason why there is 2 streams is because the first stream broke and they had to start another one to continue it lol

By design, i would think because the apparent balance design to date was to decrease the TTK?
Moreover, it is a FPS game, if no one dies, how to win? xD

Yeah, with her DM as it is now, she just feeds.
Even as a Hammond main, i am more afraid of Monkey than i am of her in Tank vs Tank fights.

NSS, bro! xD

His dmg via his gun is under-rated especially since it can headshot, if i am not wrong.
Lamp is a strong ability.
Where TTK and DPS decides the game, his Ult is king.

Unleash the zerglings!

Skill inflation, has to happen.
Even amongst the players in Sliver and Bronze tiers.

Nah, man. Tankers have anticipated this and kinda know intuitively that this be the case. Need that blue rectangle and anti-boop passive for sure.

A lot of teams signed really good players in the off-season, except the LA Valiant because IGC is run by terrible people.

No doubt and the game being around for some time would inevitably yield players who become better over time, no?

Yeah, but that’s more looking towards rookies and scouting talent than previously bad players somehow becoming SSS tier between seasons.

Indeed. :+1: :grinning:

I just had a look at this…

LOL YOU ARE RIGHT

It was literally just DPS doing all the crap. Nice diversity hero diversity tho.

Did they explain why they haven’t released a good headset since the Siberia v2?

Yep, it’s what I’ve been trying to tell people. Now, we have actual evidence of it.

What in this tournament makes you think this?

How most of the fights were won/lost because of the DPS lineup, instead of literally any other role. What the tanks/Supports did really didn’t matter, aside from getting a really good ultimate in.

And you say that because Dps has been the role getting the most picks?

No, because they have always done that. I’m saying it because they were the ones making space.

It’s like Reinhardt was assisting Mei or McCree in making space instead of the other way around.

This is pretty clear in that matchup, you as a team try to enable your Dps as much as possible. This doesnt mean the other roles are useless

There’s a difference between enabling the DPS and helping them do your job.

While London was mainly losing because of their weak Supports

Just watch map 5 and how Rapel throwed

Huh, weird.

Couldn’t have seen it coming after other tanks got nerfed, but rectangle man got armor buff, dmg buff, movement speed buff, steadfast and still retains 1400hp barrier.

Weird innit?

And yet he still explodes despite having the beefiest barrier, as soon as he tries to firestrike.

A big part of why they were losing is because Blasé couldn’t keep up with Kevster/Birdring on Mei.

I think he was used because they could rely on Ice Wall to assist making space, and also Immortality Field to keep him alive.
