Not going to lie never thought I’d see the day.
Fingers crossed its not another arbitrary number change.
I want recon mode to be viable and not just “damn, i have to move” mode.
Have the devs ever said anything about moving DPS heroes to other roles?
Because the main place people can’t stand bastion is when sentry is combined with two barrier tanks, if bastion was a tank he could have at most a single barrier tank. So no more pirate-ship or bunker compositions, you’d to depend more on mobile DPS elements.
They never mentioned that in another context other than when Symm was moved from support to damage.
Where’s ChibiFox?!
Heres hoping sentry gets a personal barrier
I’m trying! I’M TRYING! WHERE ARE THEY?
I’ve had this massive smile on my face for 5 mins I am just so happy they are finally going to try and help him out.
I believe the devs have mentioned that moving champs would require a rework, reworks are on hiatus.
Oh yeah, so it’s not unprecedented for a hero to be moved from one category to another.
And of course two categories were combined to create the huge DPS category.
@ChibiFox
The weird thing is Bastion wouldn’t really need a rework, the hero practically IS a tank already with just a few small changes, the type of small changes we’ve already seen recently.
Yeah, but i wouldnt get my hopes up. Symm was mainly moved because there was a general agreement that she didnt work as a support and always played like a dps.
Bastion is a damage hero through and through.
I don’t get people who say the devs don’t listen to us. So much exciting stuff in this update!
I agree, and do think he needs to be moved. But he would require several changes to his survival which definitely might constitute a ‘rework’ of sorts.

Yep it looks like they’re addressing a lot of complaints. Junkrat and Bastion being lackluster, Mercy and Zen buffs, Ana’s dominance, Moira changes.
Doing a good job at addressing player feedback.
Bastion has a LOT of tank qualities.
- Recon mode is as large as a tank
- Has a strong self-sustain like roadhog
- Ironclad means bastion has as much health as Zarya/Sigma
- the hero is generally of limited mobility
Low damage isn’t a quality of tank, the quality of Damage heroes is that they EASILY get out damage. Bastion’s high damage being limited to sentry mode that takes 1.0 sec to get into and 0.5 sec to get out of makes him a lot like the bruiser tank archetype which Roadhog follows which is high damage but the damage is really difficult to get out, in RH’s case due to the extreme spread on his shotguns.
Ironclad in recon could do almost all of it.
What sucks so much about getting hooked is you then take effectively 25% more damage losing ironclad.
With ironclad in recon you could survive being slammed into a wall by rein’s charge AND survive a single follow-up melee hit.
Oh my gosh I know, I almost shouted with joy… I haven’t been this excited to play Overwatch since Hammond went live (I just like cute little hamsters, okay)
Tanks arent solely defined by hitboxes and health. Its about the job they fulfill. They create space and protect teammates. They usually build the frontline to contest objectives first, to allow their teammates to safely push in. Bastion is the antithesis of that. His most effective strat is camping and being pocketed by his team. Hog i wouldnt use as a comparison as hes the least tank of all the tanks. Hes called by many just a fat dps for a reason.
cries in Zenyatta main The discord orb revert. These are happy tears.
Because everybody asked for Bastion bunker meta. Here’s hoping that they make him more of a mobile powerhouse instead of relying too much on his immobile sentry.
