They made the game 5v5 to reduce queue times…

And then barley touched support, threw one hero in there and said “that’ll do it.”

It doesn’t take a genius to see how 2 players choosing between 8 supports is a dumb move that’s just gonna bottleneck queue times again.

Adding only 3 hero’s when we should have had 9 by this point is an insult to the people who have been sticking by this game while other games never slowed down their content release and I feel it will backfire hard.

I mean, if the queue times are the same as on the beta, rest assured that support players have no queue times anymore ! That is because absolutely nobody even tags supports !

They have become Ow2 tank’s queue from Overwatch

And since there’s only one tank per game now, tank players also have relatively short queue times.

Too bad for dps players, that was to be expected when they out right said they wanted DPS players to be able to carry games on their own not relying on other roles anymore.

As much as it was fun in the testing card and it could be fun with proper AI, that’s never happening, they’ve pretty much said that they weren’t moving Symmetra anymore.

Even with support bottlenecking the last beta, they said that the ques were still faster than live without even having to sacrifice balance over the match lmao

My consensus is that they went 5v5 because of poor tank balancing.

Don’t worry in a few years OW3 will be announced and the game will be remade for 1-2-1 and the supports will be made to feel like super heroes when healing!

5v5 was probably motivated by some combination of:

  • Wanting to nuke Double Shield from orbit since no matter what they did it constantly threatened to reenter the meta (and also preemptively saving themselves the trouble of having to deal with future problem causing tank synergies)

  • Handling the tank deficit by making each match only require half the tank players it used to (and also allowing more freedom to make tanks individually strong and thus more satisfying to play)

  • Make it easier to port the game to mobile

  • Generally reducing defenses and MOBA elements to make the game more akin to a traditional FPS that will compete with games like Valorant

Reducing DPS queue times was only one of the reasons to pursue 5v5.
