It used to be you could leave before you selected a hero. So within the first 20 seconds or so you could leave if you had a flashpoint map.
Now you can’t you still get a penalty, oh fun!
Well done.

Great, now we can’t even dodge this gamemode in QP.
Stop forcing this garbage gamemode when no one wants to play it!
I hate it so much, 90% of my “free leaves” are because I can’t take this gamemode anymore.
No, that’s not how it works. You can leave before the spawn room appears, which is within the first 30 seconds of the game instance starting. However, if your internet connection is slow, then you may not see the pre-spawn-room screen until after the spawn room has already become visible, at which point it is too late to leave without taking a leaver penalty.
If you get the “Are you sure?” prompt when trying to leave a game in bright red text, then it is too late to leave without taking the penalty.
This isn’t true, it’s changed.
As soon as the map started, I tried to leave and got a penalty warning.
I have 500mb internet.
Was the spawn room visible, or was it just the character select screen? There are two separate 45-second countdown phases before the match actually starts. The question is which one was present when you selected your character, but I will try to test later when I get home from work. I’m on a gigabit connection (1000mb/sec) on the US West Coast. so I should not have latency issues reaching the CA based Blizzard OW2 servers.
Unless I backfilled into a game that had already reached the spawn timer, i’ll double check.
Where in the patch notes does it say this? sounds like it might be a bug or you left too late and it counted down to zero after you left.
I think OP is right.
Cuz I tried to see if leaving at the “Assemble” part (where you cant spawn at all) resulted in penalties, and it did (when the common knowledge is that it doesnt).
Maybe someone else can try leaving at the assemble part multiple times and see if you get a penalty.
Anyways, that was an experiment and I don’t usually leave, so fine by me.
I leave flashpoint and most push maps…Blizzard started putting me in as backfill for those maps now. Dirty rotten little…
So, I don’t really “play” them. I’ll just mess around and tell my team sorry, Blizzard wants me to ruin their match because I can’t leave it.
Describe in excruciating detail what’s wrong with flashpoint of all gamemodes
And then go into even more excruciating detail on why it is so dramatically worse than it’s gamemode cousin with identical win condition, control.
Control you have more time to contest points flash points you don’t… each point of flash point you have 2 team fights maybe 3… Control you have maybe 4-5, more if you trade fights a lot 1 round. Control maps you have a ton of time to error correct, flashpoints you dont…
Just queued for Qp and got in and then left when the counter was at 20. no penality. I think the OP just left a little too late.
It’s just a warning, you can still leave before you spawn in the room. You start getting the warning when you are close to penalty and it will appear regardless of when you leave. So, as long as you are leaving immediately, you won’t get the penalties no matter how many warnings you get.
I mostly play arcade and going into qp to test was a little weird for me, out of my wheelhouse for sure.
But control has a lot of time outs where you just stand in spawn doing nothing. It’s boring. Flashpoint is one round and you just play. No extra time in between.
That’s false, at least in my experience the moment you join a QP game you get a penalty if you leave even if the game hasn’t started yet, always been like that since they introduced harsher penalties for leaving and they didn’t change it then.
If doesn’t show “Assemble Phase” in the middle of screen, you’re not free to leave. If appeared anything else you weren’t elegible to leave without penalty.
If this happening, should use bug report forum section. Because unless stated otherwise, is a bug.
Flash point haters are among the biggest babies we got here .
Its literally just CP but with multiple points on the same map . theres no real reason to hate on it besides you just being bad at the game in reality , as there isnt anything diff about the mode compared to what we ve alredy been doing for years
Some try to go with pitiful ‘arguments’ if you can even call them that about hating to run from one point to another but thats literally a non problem . truly some first world princess type problem yall are having here xD
Yeah and my critic on flash point is the tick rate of the objective, if the points ticked at a slower rate i would prolly like that game mode, i like how it is 1 map not waiting at spawn for round to start…
I want to make an argument but I’ve never left a game (since there’s no reason to) so…maybe?
