So before we had assists and kills and damage in the new scoreboard. With the new patches I noticed something different… I killed three people whith by far the most damage within the first 30 seconds of the game. But I looked at the scoreboard and it showed half of the people on my team also shared those three kills, but without the assists…
Mind you, this is after the recent patches.
So essentially they brought back the old system of making everybody feel good about themselves, so no one’s feelings get hurt…
To me this is minority pandering, because there’s no way that the majority of players are complaining that their lack of damage and kills are being exposed… Which is the point of every scoreboard in every shooter ever made…
No, because before the patch, in the scoreboard, people were assigned rightful kills and people that didn’t deserve the kills, simply didn’t get them added to the scoreboard. They reverted it back to the way it used to be, where if a player tickled someone… it counts as their kill.
Which brings us right back to people feeling like they are doing more for the team than they really are. Might as well just have the medal system again…
Okay fine, but can you explain why they would change it so that more people appear to have more kills than they really do? Why would they changed that in the patch… they are obviously trying to appeal to some type of demographic correct? Otherwise they wouldn’t have changed anything, right?
Because it is not a traditional fps game. It is a game heavily dependent on teamwork for something to actually get done. The kill potential also varies between different heroes. If you are doing less kills as a winston compared to a bastion, that doesn’t mean you aren’t contributing.
Also not getting credited means you did nothing even if you actually did something.
Because the system you want is not any better at all, in fact I think your system would make people even more angry. Imagine getting this tank down to 1% hp by yourself and then your own Dva tickles the last 1hp and gets the final blow and the point. How fun is that?
Why do you people care? They player was eliminated. You got credit. What a stupid thing to cry about. No one cares about your stats, and people stats that are complaining will get less kills also.
If you read what I wrote, you would see that this is exactly what I’m talking about. It’s not fun, and they shouldn’t get the kill for that. But in the recent patch they changed it so that person that got that last 1% tick of damage, gets credited for kill.
It doesn’t matter, they had the ratio correct before the recent patch. The person that did the most meaningful amount of damage necessary for that kill, got credit for it (and in most circumstances, got the last shot as well).
There is a really bad habit in this game in rewarding players for s*** they didn’t do, which creates bad habits, which creates bad players.
All this allows is people to continuously damage Heroes, without deserving the kill, which makes them victims of a healer’s ult battery… All because blizzard isn’t giving these bad players with bad habits, accurate information about what they’re actually doing.
How dare those kill-stealing vagrants muscle in on your glory?! In a TEAM GAME OF ALL THINGS?! smh.
Seriously though, try not to worry too much about what other players are getting from the scoreboard. It’s meant to enable you to relect on your own performance.
If it ends up being a ‘participation award fest’ on live then you can just totally ignore the board and focus on your own play (like we currently do on live with the medal system.)
If that is the only way they’re trying to make their players feel good, then I can only say they’re not doing a good enough job because people around here can be saltier than the Dead Sea.
They might change it again, who knows. But right now the devs are focussing on irritating the remaining support players with changes no one asked for .
Turns out it works both ways.
I’d rather have a teamplayer with a high assist score than someone who just tries to flex by getting final blow. Especially if it lead to frag stealing which doesn’t make sense in Overwatch.
It seems like assists are now reserved for strictly offensive or defensive assists. I just played a Mercy game and had 30 assists despite me not taking out my gun unless it was life or death
I’ve already stated in my own topic that Eliminations, final blows and damage are ALL needed to get a good view of the situation.
You can add whatever assist stats on top of that but without final blows, eliminations is meaningless.
But all anybody did was go on about how it doesn’t matter and other irrelevant nonsense and how it is somehow a deprecated stat even though there is nothing to replace it so yeah.
This really doesn’t matter, people can’t even read the scoreboard properly. Gamers are very dumb, you have to understand. I’ve been getting flamed nonstop during the beta in matches where I have the highest stats across both teams.
People will see what they want to see, no matter what. As long as the scoreboard is consistent and readable for you personally, that’s the best you can hope for. Other people are a lost cause.
