Perhaps they believe that nerfing tanks will create more of an incentive to pick tank and therefore help address the tank concerns?
In all seriousness, Hog being a tank buster makes the situation a bit different. Nerfing him DOES technically make all of the other tanks feel better. They could do the same with Mauga, I suppose. They already did it for Orisa.
That being said, the nerfs do not actually address why he is a problem to play on tank. It might genuinely just be to cater to DPS players that have no idea that they are doing.
It wasn’t really that they were weak, it’s that they were sometimes too weak and other times too strong.
i think what they want is some kind of halo effect, you play a tank thats busted and when theyre gutted and in the dumpster theyre hoping you try a different hero and keep going with that
It was simply a bribe to get people playing a unfun role with least playerbase
They need to gut all tanks to pre rq levels.
There is no need for one player to have a role with that much responsibility in the game .
One there is not enough players to do it
Second the matchmaking is not good enough to match it
Three removing the role and.moving tanks to dps role as hybrid heroes solves most problems
Post rework Hog is already worse than pre-role queue Hog in my humble opinion. Or at least he is in my heart. I have no idea about the balance anymore. It hardly matters when you can just swap to Mauga and crisp the bacon.
It’s what happens when they keep raidbossing things become too difficult to kill for most heroes , so they design heavy countwrpicka to balance and make a card game of a hero shooter.
At one point the most skill full thing you would do in this game would become pressing H at this point.

The cycle of Tank nerfs and buffs will never stop in 5v5. Tanking will never generally feel good in 5v5 and be even remotely balanced at the same time.
The reasoning is simple, there isn’t someone to cover a weakness. Everyone knows this. Tank was fine in OW1 until they started nerfing them due to Sigma and DB which;
They need to go back to 6v6, rebalance the tanks, rework Widow, rework Tracer’s mobility, rework Reaper, rework every single “tank buster” ability, make it so tanks aren’t like Hog, and DF, if they’re tanks and it’s two, the class needs to also not be great at dealing damage. Dive can still work but the damage characters would be more important in dealing the damage.
This doesn’t mean make every tank as weak as Winston’s primary was but lower it where needed so they aren’t flying/walking into the backline and deleting it. Tank ult synergy and duos were fun, tanks being melted wasn’t fun.
We’ve seen the tank queue spike where there are changes, people are willing to play tank if it’s fun, we’ve seen that, people play multiple tanks in OQ. 5v5 will never work, they need to stop showing characters favoritism (especially Tracer) and rework them. As long as they play favorites and refuse to accept that they messed the game up on a fundamental level with 5v5, the tank role will always be a different shade of poop.
The solution is to re-introduce 6v6 after they’ve nerfed all the tanks.
But without rq, or hybrid rq with just dps and support and tanks moved to dps role as hybrid heroes
