I’ve played Overwatch for a VERY long time. When Stadium dropped, I was so stoked about it. I switched to playing it exclusively. I was forgiving after the hero drafts but after playing 5 or so games after the update, I can certifiably say that I won’t be touching it again unless the updates are removed.
-
No more “underdog comeback” games - with the best of 5 format, that is absolutely gone. You know from round 2 if the game is an L. There’s no more forgiveness for picking the wrong items, making a bad play, etc. There’s no more “it’s okay team, we’ll pick it up next round”
-
There’s no longer any time at all to adapt to the enemy teams item picks
-
The new shop times are atrocious. Even after the MANY hours of stadium I’ve played, it doesn’t feel like nearly enough time to pick and read through things. I can only imagine how impossible this would feel to people newer to the game mode. It was way better having it to where if everyone was done in the shop, it would expedite the countdown. There’s no reason for this to be so much faster

The patch notes said that the devs “liked the feel” of the faster matches much more, but I think people who primarily play Stadium are here for the long haul. We know going into it that a game is going to be 45+ minutes long sometimes. Personally, my favorite part of Stadium were the MUCH longer team fights as people picked stronger survivability items. I had an Orisa mirrormatch once and it was the final round and the final fight at 99% v 99% in OT took 10+ minutes. We were all battle-crying the whole time and on the edge of our seats. When there was finally a winner it was SO rewarding. We don’t play Stadium because it’s “quick”

There is literally no difference between QP and Comp in Stadium anymore

Agreed. Everything you say i agree with. This is a very bad idea, blizzard, and now you keep showing us you’re not actually building the game based off what WE as players want, but as what YOU the devs think is more fun. Twice in a row now… just ignoring all of us to give us something we never asked for. It’s honestly really gross.

The BO5 change is getting most of the attention (as it should, being the most egregious), but I would like to second the issue with armory times. At the very least, they should be extended for the first couple weeks of a season. There’s simply too much information to read and process and then strategize in such a short amount of time, especially now that we’re also picking powers nearly every round. I’m aware that the training range exists, but it’s unreasonable to expect players to memorize the entire armory before playing. Even if I’m relying on a build, I want time to be flexible and adapt it to the current game.

There’s so little time in the armory, I have yet to even try out any gadgets. No time for that.

You SEE??? I make a post on this and nobody hardly says a word. Yet as I said before STADIUM GAMES ARE WAY TOO FREAKING LONG!! On top of that we have to deal with the crud that is perks and instead of having the builds they should just GiVE these options to the characters in ALL the game modes so we can play as we want. I refuse to have to play such a LONG LONG round best out of 5 when most people simply burn OUT before that is done.
You devs take it way too hard when somebody doesn’t agree with you but again, we have to work (well some of us) and we can’t be on this game ALL the time like you want us. Its just NOT realistic and to have to play ONE FLIPPING MODE that gives you abilities that you should be able to use ANYTIME is just too restrictive. You guys can have stadium because as I said before, STADIUM IS A BAD IDEA!

Stadium was a GREAT idea. It gave people a different way to play that had grown tired with standard competitive and it’s terrible matchmaking.
Quick Play comp bridged the gap for those who weren’t prepared to play longer games, or who wanted to play with their friends on PC/Console crossplay.
Stadium as it was, was PERFECT. Even attempted counters in Draft mode didn’t always work out because of builds, and you had the time to craft something meaningful.
This change to Best of 5 will kill the mode.

I’ve not even logged in or tried the altered mode, and I already don’t think I’m gonna bother.

that’s the gist of it. +1

100% agree, if you wanted a shorter fast paced gamemode thats what quickplay was for. There’s no reward for playing comp, so it’ll be quickplay only until drives, if playing the game at all.
Even on the hero I one-trick in stadium comp I was still somehow rushed and just muscle memory kicked in and I barely picked the perks I knew I was supposed to use. Using gadgets will be impossible, which is such a shame because I was so interested and hyped for new stuff in stadium. Regardless of the armory times though, you’ll never build up enough money to buy a gadget and slot it into your build meaningfully without sacrificing something you need.
Even in those super long games, when they’re so close, it becomes rewarding to win or lose and most of the time you can say “gg” genuinely - not out of habit. It sucks to make this change now for fast paced games. I liked the slow pace nature of stadium.

I don’t like Stadium but reducing the rounds seems like it’s undermining the whole “building up” aspect of the mode. Stadium people seemed to enjoy the longer format.
Personally, this change isn’t go to entice me to play Stadium (and likely others who enjoy traditional OW) so I say revert the change for the fans of that mode.

That’s an absoulte truth. Only a person who NEVER actually played this mode could “invent” that trash for a promotion.

100%, and for fans of Stadium who prefer a shorter game mode… that’s what quickplay is for. It seems a lot of the people who are saying “yay shorter stadium” are the QP people or people who have never played Stadium extensively.

Yeah, I play so much Stadium that it’s practically a full time job at this point. Even I don’t have all of the powers/abilities/etc memorized. I still read every single thing.

couldn’t agree more. Comp Stadium is what keeps me playing OW after so many years, I played since launch of OW1, but these changes are so bad, they strip the mode of ALL the excitement it used to bring and made me want to play. I gave it several hours today, but instead of feeling pumped up, I feel actually kinda disappointed and dissatisfied.
The new gadgets should have been called gimmick, or clutter, that would have been honest. feels like a totally pointless addition throw in because they are desperate to come up with something “fresh” every new season or something.

Stop making changes that no one is asking for. No one playing comp wants to play stadium like its quickplay. Revert this nonsense.

Biggest Stadium complaint was that drafts needed to be removed because they added pointless time to an already long game mode.
“Heard ya fam, we will just speed up the rest of the game”

its absurd because we don’t need something fresh every season, stadium is fun because its the way it is. Sure, new additions are fun, but they need to fit well, not the mess they added

They have basically removed everything that made Stadium a good mode. There is no purpose for building/counterbuildling and strategic decisions. Might as well remove the mode at this point.

Yeah, it needs to be reverted to best of 7, other changes are negotiable but that one isn’t
