There's not much to be done about snipers or OHKs

Let’s just ignore environmental kills and combos like Hog’s Hook, or high risk abilities like Rein’s Charge because those are entirely situational or dependent on other facters. If they nerf sniper head shot damage to the point they can’t OHK characters like Reaper, not only would that basically destroy any incentive to aim for the head, but they’d have to buff that hero accordingly. One of the following would need to happen:

  1. Either body shot damage would have to be raised.
  2. Their rate of fire would have to increase.
  3. In cases like Hanzo, they’d have to increase projectile speed.
  4. Or they’d have to buff the entire kit.

The only other alternatives are to make more characters capable of countering snipers like Rein and Genji, or to make the game 6v6 again for either an extra tank or an extra counter.

So, of the four above that Blizzard would choose from because they’re simple compared to the other alternatives, which would you rather have:

  • Hanzo and Widow shooting you in the body for 140 damage and head shotting for 180. Basically, meaning if you’ve been hit 1-2 times by anything, they will kill you.
  • Hanzo and Widow firing fully charged shots 30-50% faster.
  • Hanzo’s Storm arrow to do 100 body and 140 head, or his Storm Arrow to fire 2X faster, or for it to be reworked like Hog’s ult, and Sonar Arrow (or whatever it’s called) to have 4 extra meters of range.
  • Widow’s poison to do 50% more damage and have an extra meter of range, and her hook to have more range with a shorter cooldown.
  • Or for Hanzo’s arrows to become hitscan up to 10-15 meters and Widow to have a larger hitbox and enable collateral kills.
  • Lastly, I’m only including Ashe in here because of her ability to OHK Tracer, her ADS would have to do more damage if her crit damage gets nerfed, or it would have to shoot faster.

I’d rather have what we do now than kill the purpose of these characters because the only reasonable buffs would turn them into monsters.

Widowmaker headshot full charge is 300 damage.

She has a 2.5x headshot multiplier.

people been complaining about ohk since 2016, nothing new.

I know, that was one of the changes I was saying would have to happen if her head shot multiplier was reduced so she couldn’t OHK. As I said, nerf headshot damage too much and there’s no incentive to aim for it. It comes down to what players would rather play against:

More body damage.
Significantly faster fire rate.
Huge kit buffs.
Or faster projectiles.

Funny enough, I didn’t see many of those complaints when I was on here before I stopped playing around I think Sigma’s release.

They could always reward them in another way for headshots. Maybe for, say widow, she gets a higher headshot multiplier every headshot she hits that cools down when she isnt hitting them, so that while she can’t just instantly 1 tap someone straight out of spawn, she can still go on rewarding killing sprees if she’s consistent.

They certainly felt more mitigated when you could run double dive tanks against them or double up on barriers.

Exactly. Going from 6v6 to 5v5 empowered snipers and flankers, not to mention the reduction of CC which empowered flankers about as much as the new passive.

175hp Widow/Hanzo/Sojourn should go a long way towards making it easier to kill them.

People are complaining about their head shot damage, ignoring the fact they’re snipers and SHOULD OHK non-tanks to the head. No one is complaining about their durability.

So how does a flanker “counter” a sniper, if not killing them?

Although I do agree that there’s no reason Widow needs more than 250 damage headshots

Distraction. If Widow looks at flanker and escapes and can’t kill them and flanker can’t kill widow its a 4v4 fight with a potential counter into flanker’s team removed.\

If that widow was the only counter to your teams’ pharah, she gets to do whatever she wants while Widow is occupied.

So I’m in the camp where I feel snipers should be allowed to snipe and one shot. Look I know one shotting sucks in this game but if a sniper can’t do that what good are they?

Yes Widomaker and Hanzo are a pain but if they lose that key aspect of their kit would you respect them? By this I mean would you be afraid and or wary of one? Probably not they’d be a push over and sadly I feel this game has a lot of issues because they aren’t the only form of instant death again I know we gotta stay away from environmental kills but the fact they are in the game is stupid enough.

Plus you have crap like D.Va bomb, Junk bomb, Roadhog hook combo, and Rein charge and I just feel this game is suffering more so than ever due to this 5v5 swap and tbf… a lot of the maps are just badly designed so what can we do? Do you wanna make snipers useless? OKAY fine make widow a support same with hanzo make them healers like Ana.

That’s a pretty weak form of countering if it doesn’t kill the sniper.

That means you are basically forfeiting an entire player. Usually back in enemy lines where that player is at risk of dying.

How often do you hear about Genji or Reaper dying to Widow at close range? Killing her is the counter as a flanker, but she doesn’t need to have below average health for them to do that. If she does, that says a lot more about the flanker than the sniper.

She would still kill most, if not every tank in 2-3 head shots. All that would do is give the healer a bit more time to potentially force an extra shot or two.

Exactly. If there’s no incentive for a sniper to aim for the head, they’ll just go for body shots, potentially destroying their only hope of killing a flanker, giving your healer time to heal, giving survivors time to escape. Why would I fear a Hanzo who can consistently kill me with head shots me as Genji when doing so is no faster than shooting me in the body, which is SIGNIFICANTLY easier?

How about a hero that can give helmets to others.
So the helmet would prevent crits for the next 3 shots or 200 damage, for example.
Also this way blizzard could begin to sell more stylish hat/helmet skins in the store.
