There should be just one queue. No, not open queue, not role queue. Just a button that says ‘Play’ and you’re randomly assigned a role. You’ll force people to learn to play every role. The game will become more balanced on its own. Just my opinion. Putting it out there.
But if I get the role I don’t want to play, I’ll just throw the game so we can lose faster and repeat until I get the role I want to play.
That called Mistery Heroes in the unranked sub-menu.
Well, you can’t choose your character either, that’s the default.
This is the all roles queue. And I do this a lot, but not everyone wants to be flexible. This is a game not a job. You have to let people do what they think is fun. If someone hates playing tank and never wants to play tank, all you would accomplish with this is driving them away from the game. And that’s not worth it.
Yes, on paper this solves a lot of issues. But in practice this would just make some people hate playing and leave entirely meaning you have fewer people to work with.
First of all thank you for taking time to respond.
I believe the composition should be 1-2-2 as it is in role queue, you just won’t choose your role. All roles is just too random for me as you don’t have the team composition to rely on.
I’m already forced to play a role I don’t prefer. I am getting queue times of 5+ minutes on support. I would even dare say 3 minutes is too much since it costs another minute until the game actually starts, and the duration of an Overwatch match isn’t that long. (It is very frustrating to wait for 8 minutes and then be stomped by the enemy team in a match of 5 minutes.)
I know I’m impatient, but I come home and I have 2-3 hours to play but in that time I have waited for almost an hour and played very little. Well, I’m not the usual profile the game is targeted to, but still.
I’m also only focused on Competitve play (not that I’m very good), where I think it is more reasonable to expect people learning all roles to know team dynamics. (And maybe it’ll encourage them to be more respectful to the other roles, if they actually play the roles.)
Thats a good way to lose players permanently, imo
OW1 used to have a feature (I forget the name) where basically you can queue for all roles and get a ticket which can be used to give you priority for the next queue. It incentivized dps to play other roles in order to get faster queues later. If 6v6 RQ came back it might be something they’d have to implement again.
I think this would be an extremely unpopular change. Most people would likely quit before spending time playing a role they dont want to play.
It was called priority pass. I thought this was a good idea when they implemented it. Basically it rewarded people willing to fill with faster queues later on their preferred role. IMO this is what the OP of this post really wants. They just don’t realize it yet.
I feel you. I too have a full time job, a wife, kids, responsibilities to my community. So my playtime can also be limited. This is a big reason why I play QuickPlay more than Comp.
KevinAteNine mentioned an old system called Priority Pass. And honestly, that’s what you really want. What you are suggesting just wouldn’t work because too many people would be frustrated by it. But a priority pass system lets you queue for all roles (or an in need role) and earn passes that you can use to basically get priority queue for your favorite role at a later point.
Basically priority pass lets you cut in line slightly ahead of people who aren’t willing to play other roles. That rewards you for your flexibility vs forcing that flexibility on people.
Would you be content being on a role you’re familiar with, but with a tank who is new to tanking and doesn’t know what to do, vs. the enemy who does?
Not going to play that crap at all then)
I want good matches, not instant noodle matches
Im down!
We’ll call it “Mystery Mode”
If you think that the word “force” is good to have next to people and that it is a good idea, you need a psychologist.
Competitive only has one de-facto queue, ranked. Open queue is widely regarded as a joke and ignored.
not at all
many many many players, myself included greatly prefer ole-less queue oer the excessive queue times, absence of flex play, and unnecessary restrictions that 222/122 inflicts upon the game
I personally see 222/122 as Overwatch on training wheels
Good idea, but modern audience will leave the game
they should delete every role and every character is dps, so queue times are forever fixed, no more unbalanced mess, no more passives, no more forced deffensive gameplay, everyone attacks, everyone can play with whoever they want
When I play a game, I like to choose what I do. So yeah, this sounds horrible.
And as mentioned, mystery heroes and open Q fill that void pretty well.
The restrictions are necessary, game is balanced around 1-2-2 format. When I say nobody takes open queue seriously, i don’t literally mean absolutely zero players, that much is obvious so your retort is kinda a herp derp tbh.
There’s a reason no one blinks an eye when you have top 500 open queue even in gold ranks. Its a joke.
