It’s really something unique, yeah? No other community has ever made me feel so awful and insignificant like this one lol. No community is better at pushing people away and idolizing toxic Twitch streamers, emulating every single thing they do to make everyone’s day a living hell.
Hope y’all are happy that your toxic chat pushes me to severe depression. Well. Here you go.
You win.

If it really makes you feel like that, you shouldn’t be involved with it. Mental health is more important than a game.
If you still really want to play, turn text chat off and turn voice chat off. I’ve heard that helped a lot of people with the toxicity problem.

Agreed! A game with amazing potential thrown down the can. The people will make you feel awful even on the forum. It’s a bunch of elitist rank snobs. Any thing you say is just gonna be “your bronze or silver”.

It’s on here. This many people complaining about matchmaking and MMR isn’t just coincidence lol I quit for 4 month because of it. Just started playing again and I regret it.

The point still stands. If the community is making you have severe mental health problems, you should definitely not be involved with the community anymore. There is 0 benefit to it if it makes you feel that way.

Or the community can stop being elitist, but that’s asking to much
form outside looking in that is something blizzard should care about, but they don’t they made their millions. OV2 will be the same garbage

We all wish that would happen…

I’m just sick of this game having to learn everything by osmosis. No guides or rules. No clear point or what you’re supposed to be doing. I look at vids, reviews, etc. a lot of annoyance. Sorry you have to hear it. I’m just so done. 2 years and still in silver. It’s time to hang it up.

i heard league of legends and dota 2 is worse, never touched either game with a 10 foot pole though(maybe rainbow six siege too)

If you don’t want to be a part of the game anymore, that’s understandable. If you don’t want to play, don’t. There isn’t any reason to keep playing if you don’t enjoy it.

i hope you are feeling better though, as someone who has struggled with mental health issues my entire life having a horrible experience in a game you play as an escape is horrible, i hope you are feeling better now

It is very disappointing, I basically quit the OW forums because of it. I moved to the HOTS forums since the HOTS community is way better.
Trust me, if you leave the forums you will not miss anything. I have a lot of friends who were once big posters but left the forums. They said they have never been happier.
I hope OW2’s community will be much better.

True, this community is by far the worst. People are SO angry ALL the time. You can’t even open your mouth without someone attacking you

The problems I find with this community:
A: Stressed-out people who over time have had a few too many bad games where someone threw/ they went up against smurfs/ someone was toxic/ someone left
B: Toxic people - some of it can be attributed to A, although some are deliberately toxic to try and get a reaction out of people, or think the behaviour is OK because their favourite streamer never gets banned for it.
C: Politics - many people play games to get away from the stresses of the real world, but when people start bringing politics (of any kind) into the game, it can cause tensions or just generally bring down the mood of a game.
D: Elitism - as someone else said, there is a sense of elitism in this game, this tends to happen as games get older. The elitist groups tend to be the highest ranked ones or the more “notorious” ones like streamers. This almost acts like the old class system in society, where “higher” classes look down on those they see as lower than them.
My suggestion would be to avoid Competitive Play at least for now, just playing QP and not joining comms can take a lot of pressure off. There are nicer elements in the community, but sadly many in the online community can be quite toxic. It can be a tough thing to do, but sometimes just walking away from a game totally for a while can do someone a world of good.
I will say this though, I’ve seen many gaming communities, and Overwatch overall is one of the better communities. CS:GO is argubly the worst one I’ve seen, where you’re more likely to be greeted by racial slurs than “hello”.

If you really do feel this way you should keep the text chat & voice chat off permanently. I’ve personally kept both of these off for a few months now and I’ve had more fun with this game ever since.
Toxic players may ruin the fun or mood for others, but please keep in mind that people who are extremely toxic are probably just edgy 12 - 15 year olds who are not worth getting angry or upset over in the slightest.
Don’t give them the response/attention they are desperately seeking. Report the edgy kids and they will inevitably be permanently banned once they’ve received enough punishments, and you can continue playing the game knowing there is 1 less A hole playing.

I am so sorry you have had such an experience here. This is the game and forum that actually kept me from suicide and helped me through my own severe depression, so to see someone with such a polar opposite experience is actually heartbreaking to me. I don’t know your situation, but if you can seek professional help, I highly recommend it. It took me almost 2 years to get somewhat stable, and I still work on it every day. I am only at this point thanks to my amazing therapist. I know what a struggle depression is, and I hope you continue fighting it. It is worth it

There are a LOT worse comms out there. It seems more like you are to sensitive or have not played enough games.
Turn off the chat in comp, dont play comp at all and DONT look into the forums. The game is pretty good. People come to the forums to complain because thats what the forum is for. Dont look into a forum if you cant handle it.
I’m pretty sure from what I hear ow is the least bad competitive shooter community, obviously it’s not animal crossing but games like siege and Cs have people running round screaming slurs in almost every game, league and Dota are pretty bad from what I hear aswell where Dota community actively harasses new players just for being new

HotS isn’t great either, I played for a week about 6 months ago, every game in QP someone was flaming in chat, made me quit the game (also the grind to unlock ranked is ridiculous).
