There is nothing that counters roadhog other than roadhog

They always have kirko on the team too. God this is so utterly repulsive

I know it isn’t an easy feat, but you have to try and bait her suzu. Example as Ana: Sleep someone, get someone really low, make her have to use her CD then go for the hog with an anti.

You have to go Ana, then bait hook while doin damage, then sleep on a breather or nade, wait for kiriko utility, then hit em with the other utility you have left. All while focus firing him as a team

isn’t it easier to wish for a million dollars than expect this to happen to solo queue?

It really is, only way I win now is by doing everyones job my self. I call it the flank dps ana.

When you flank you can make space by diverting attention. They usually use abilities too. Then go for a pick and rotate back to team or another off angle. Just constantly sniping and tossing nades/sleeps immediately off cooldown.

Only heal when they are at critical and in los, then immediately back to damage.

Got like a 71% winrate so far, then hog shows up and things get tricky lol

Can’t beat em? Join em.

Reject Winton. Embrace Hog.

I’m a tank player, not a DPS player.

Zarya then??? She’s nearly a DPS…

Wait a minute I thought they were no hard counters in OW2

Ana counters him, or if you play DPS then reaper can be good, especially with a Mercy pocket. If you’re tank then just play hog back?

reaper gets 1 shotted by hog without hook lol

skill issue my guy

Thread title is hilarious. Suzu is a brutal combination with hog, but hog himself is one of the most counterable heroes in the game. His entire gimmick is making a 20m death zone around him whenever hook is off CD, that is what makes him a tank and how he provides space for his team, but I’m going to list several things you can do to mitigate the threat he poses, besides getting another hog (which is probably a bad idea if your hog isn’t familiar with the hog v hog matchup anyways).

Before even talking about hero picks, the easiest counter to any hog is to play near cover. He has incredibly loud footsteps so you should always know roughly where he is. Playing near a corner lets you move to safety if he pops out and throws a hook at you. You then have 8 seconds of him being nearly useless to rain hellfire on the enemy team. I agree the line of sight on hook is still a bit frustrating even after the fixes in OW1, and if anything that is where efforts to tune hog should be focused, but again, the hardest counter to hog is being able to use 3 brain cells to position yourself near a corner, and counting to 8 after you hear him use hook.

Ok, onto hero picks. If your team is getting rolled by a hog, there are many picks you can make to keep allies alive and pressure the hog into switching. There are very obvious hero counters like Zen/Ana which make his life MUCH harder when they focus their debuffs on him. Kiriko changes the math there a little bit but suzu cooldown is long enough that it won’t always save him. Discord orb, anti and sleep (especially when he’s using TAB) will force him to retreat if not kill him outright.

On the tank side zarya is the classic “save” from hog but picking dva and holding defense matrix over a hooked target is much easier to execute imo, and once that hook threat is gone for 8 seconds, dva can lay very solid damage into him.

On the DPS side (and to some extent all other roles as well), any “boop” mechanic thrown at hog while he is hooking will displace his aim and probably save a hooked target. Pharah for example is fantastic at saving allies using concussive blast. Similarly, Ashe can also disrupt his aim with coach gun. You don’t need to be a tank to save allies from roadhog, and many other heroes can perform this task (though range and cast times on boops and attacks with knockback can vary). Edit: I’ll add a few more examples. Junkrat spam, Soldier helix, Brig abilities, D.va dash, Mei wall, Orisa spear, Hammond’s everything–all of these and more can save a hooked target.

Notice I have barely mentioned actually doing damage to the enemy roadhog–almost everything here are strategies to minimize his kill threat, and since that is his entire purpose, you effectively delete the hero by doing so. There are great options for damage as well, all made more effective by playing with cover and keeping track of hook CD.

I’m not a great player. High plat/low diamond typically, but I almost never feel oppressed by an enemy hog. He’s just a hero that makes you have to turn on a couple of brain cells instead of standing in the open shooting at his big head.

TLDR: “Don’t get hooked” is a very viable strategy. If a teammate does get hooked there are lots of ways to save them. Learning to count to 8 is important, and suzu is what’s broken in S2, not roadhog innately.

There are plenty of ways to counter him, but he’s certainly cheesy and lame.

People that play Hog are also insanely toxic. Like, I have never seen a more toxic group of people. They are constantly typing insults in match chat and flaming their own teams.

That’s what happens when you only play the cheesiest op character and get so full of yourself thinking ya good.

Zen and Ana do pretty well, from what I see.

Yes it’s called Orisa. Rarely seeing him now over her.

Ana actually can, you can interupt the breather with sleep, if kiriko use suzu, you can than use anti. Anti nade also has slighty lower cooldown than suzu. Orisa is also a decent pick, although not a hard counter, she can interrupt hog’s hook or breather with her Javalin short cd, and also block hook with spin, or even push hog away when your teammate got hooked.
