The entire community seems to be on board that this match maker in overwatch is the devil spawn of a psyche ward, and I agree.
I’ve played StarCraft in diamond 1v1, masters 2v2. WoW as a gladiator season 2(can’t stand the new expansion PVP).
This ranking system is terrible, and clearly I am not alone.
I’ve peaked almost to 3K on Soldier, the. 2800 as DVA on console, but now I’m sitting at around 2300-2600 with a. 50/50 win rate across the board on everything.
why is the matchmaker putting 4 stacks against solos?
why does a 2500 MMr game win then put me in an unwinnable 2200 MMR game where I lose more SR?
Why does my Junkrat jump the enemy team solo then my mercy follows him to revive in front of the enemy team?(literally every game).
why do I need 42 Elims as DVA to barely edge out a win?
is there a secret Smurf que? Does the game think I’m smurfing? I watch the pro players “rank up”, and their enemy diamonds are as bad as my silver opponents…. What the hell is going on? Are they rigging games ? Are my games rigged?
Do you see the problem here blizzard? Do you even care at all?
I’m so glad there are an insane number of people appalled at this horrendous matchmaker.
If it’s any consolation, I have managed to get one of my accounts to a single digit consistent SR loss. I lose about 8 out of 10 matches on this account, and still hold even. When you grab a solid 6-7 SR (occasional 9) loss and a healthy mid 20s to low 30s for each win, it’s funny. You can have about a 20% win rate and still hold where you are. But, the system is “working as intended” I am sure :).
There really is an INSANE amount within Overwatch player base that is crying out for reform within competitive play due to the implementation of this thing called MMR.
Does the OW Dev team really think that slightly enhanced graphics, sound bits, new heroes, new voice lines and the like is what’s going to make Overwatch 2 an even BETTER game than Overwatch 1? All of that is not addressing the REAL UNDERLYING CAUSE/PROBLEM. The hype will last for a while and come crashing down like Icarus. I give it less than 10 months after release (and that’s me being generous).
If they do think this way…then god damn…it’s truly unfortunate and a travesty.
There’s so much competent talent at Blizzard, no doubt. However, there’s complete incompetence with it’s leadership (please be offended as you should if you’re a leader reading this).
With so much competent talent/talented people at Blizzard it’s truly unfortunate that there’s no good, competent leadership that can orchestrate and optimize all of that glorious talent to the betterment of the company and to all consumers/customers/players.
In other words, it’s a gold mind of competent talent going to waste.
I agree with all your points, but this one is the worst. Why not make a solo only queue like every other game? Even when it’s 4 stack against 4 stack I have like a 1% chance to have any impact on the outcome of that game whatsoever. It’s just going to be the better stack wins every time with the lowest rank biggest dead weight player on the team by far blaming the solo player(s) for the loss.
I wanted to update this thread with this Reddit post:
If this is true it’s completely absurd, and proof that everyone involved with this matchmaker needs to have a different role or be fired.
Smurf que? Did it ever be a consolation that players actually play better? That’s right, someone stuck at 2600 might be better and start winning… you know get better for playing a lot…
What should happen is they win and rank up… right?
But instead, the game “flags” them…
Freaking genius idea so here every player who is playing better and trying to rank up is matched against other players who are playing better, creating a sabotaged que of players who are playing better.
Fact: we don’t know what causes MMR to change.
Fact: sometimes mmr doesn’t change after a match.
If mmr doesn’t go down after a couple of matches lost, yet sr goes down, this only allows the system to grab folks with lower sr at their allowed spectrum.
I’ve been in those drastic loss streaks, all the while your still “doing your thing” so maybe mmr doesn’t change but with streaks you losing gobs of sr by the loss(hundreds).
Anyhow with those facts… facts …… I think it’s really sad and perverted ( of a thing) to try sell some psychological reasoning that blames the player - as the only reason.
how is playing against other players “playing better” sabotage? how does that even get justified in your thinking? ill be clear i didnt read the reddit post, and i have no interest in reading it for fun or for intellectual purposes, but i am genuinely curious about how you came about that sentence.
I am in the same situation. I have a couple accounts, it is the same pattern: I am mostly gold and sometimes plat. But my winrate on mutiple seasons (YEARS), is always around 35% winrate. When I lose a lot, I lost like 5 SR at one point, and when I win, it is like 30-50 SR. So I stay in the same bracket, but I lose mostly, and it is very frustrating to play like this. My record is about 35 Losses in a ROW at one point (counted them). It was impossible to win, whatever I did. I switched heroes, I tried to talk in chat, I tried to help the team. Eventually, I mean … I am human … it gets the better of you. So I mute everything. And try to do my best. What I amd talking about now is not just a couple dozen matches, it is THOUSANDS of matches. Please let me have a good experience and win 50/50, not 30/70. Thank you
I have my misgivings about the matchmaker, but I will say that it really isn’t much worse than any other games I’ve played that have one. Are there any good ones out there?
I’m convinced that most players don’t actually want even matches, because they take too long. A quick, easy stomp to level up that SR would suit them just fine.
Is it that hard to use brain and actualy think? Stop blaming matchmaker for shrinking player base. If there is not enough 4 stacks or groups in same elo,you cant get well balanced games with stacks.
It’s not fit for purpose. But Blizz don’t see it, as far as we know they’re bringing the same system over to OW2 probably with very little or no changes other than hiding your SR.
I jumped on yesterday after an extended break only to be grouped with 3 other randoms and a duo and matched against a full sweat double shield bastion 6 stack. I’m not ashamed to say I left that game after the first round and uninstalled the game again. It’s just not worth the time and effort. Even if you’re not interested in improving or ranking up, the games aren’t even fun anymore.
What amazes me is forum criers who have zero data, zero knowledge of the coding, zero knowledge of what’s going on with the matchmaker claiming Blizzard, who have all of the above, have got it wrong.
If it’s was wrong, you’d think the first people to notice would be blizzard.
Unless, there is actually nothing wrong… sometimes the reality is the obvious logical answer…
Yeah probs that. And based on the player base ability to endure “pain” while playing I forecast player base dropping after 2-4 weeks unless the matchmaker or something is dramatically changed.
