We usually get a map on the PTR in late August, and it is released halfway through September. We’ve had Eichenwalde in 2016, Junkretown in 2017 and Busan in 2018.
This August, though, nothing on the PTR. At first, I thought this would be like Paris, a delay of a month before addition, without affecting whatever is coming next because Havana was added on time… but it’s been a month already since the “supposed” PTR launch of the new map, and nothing.
I remember the devs saying the schedule for Year 4 would be different from the first three years, but I somehow expected things to get better because I had no idea how Year 4 could be any worse than Year 3… and yet here we are.
We already knew the content was poor before Year 3 ended, but we’re like four months into Year 4, and so far, we’ve had a delayed character, an event that was both recycled and rushed, and a map that doesn’t seem to even exist.
I noticed the game tends to highlight new content on the main menu for a week if it’s going to stay forever, or for the duration of the content’s availability if it’s time-limited. With that being said, I think the only way they can release a map this year is by putting it on the PTR on September 19th, before pushing it to the live servers on October 3rd. That way, it stays on the PTR for two weeks (which is enough to test the bugs), allows Brick Bastion to be highlighted in game for the whole two weeks of the Brick Challenge’s duration, and secures a week of highlight for the map beofre the Halloween event starts on October 10th (because it’s precisely three weeks before Halloween).
I hope I’m right. The devs simply failing to add a new map would be too much, because it would give yet another valid argument to the “oVeRwAtCH iS dYiNG” squad.
Don’t disappoint.

After Paris i’m not sure anyone trusts them to make a new map

There better be something BIG, like I mean fcuking huge, at this Blizzcon to make up for the lackluster events and lack of new content this year.

OP if the map quality of Paris, and Havanna is the trend you haven’t noticed, then no new maps is a good thing at this point.

Plus, i’d imagine the playerbase would gladyl sacrifice a new map for some legit balance changes

What’s wrong with Havana?
Unpopular opinion : I’d rather have them release a map even if it’s trash, than not releasing one and slowing even more the already slow content schedule
It sucks?
It’s huge?
It favors defense?
The choke points are the worst in the game?
It’s a hybrid 2CP map?
Kind of like Paris except Paris is not as big, and paris is a 2CP map, one of the worst in the game if not the worst.
It’s basically Lunar Horizon 2.0 and 3.0

Unpopular opinion: Balance > Content
Content doesn’t matter if there’s no game balance.
Map design is game balance.
Poor map design leads to worse game balance.

There is still time left, it isn’t October yet.

Honestly? I really do not care. They could add 50 maps, it won’t make the game better.
The game needs sweeping balance changes and it needs them now, not another arena to feel frustrated in.

But it has an almost perfect 50% winrate? It can’t be that bad.
Depends which side of that 50% you are standing on.

They also usually show off said map at Gamescom, which Blizzard did not attend this year.
They will release the next map when they feel like it.
Because of two things: the last map was absolute garbage, and also, the game’s in the worst state it’s ever known. There are far more important things to worry about than new maps. Something resembling balance, role queue failing, etc. Those are a heck of a lot more important than another garbo map.
Next PTR patch should be around the corner, sooo…
They were working on 222.
Deal with it.
People don’t really care about map. I mean most of the new map were so bad. I love to explore Paris it’s a beautiful map full of secret, but it sucks to play it.
