There are no downsides to stadim sojourn

After having played around her a bit, it feels like there is nothing Sojourn can’t do. When I’m playing stadium, I feel like I follow very strict builds that tap into a single niche of the hero or I try to balance my build at the disadvantage of not being able to do one thing really well. I’m sacrificing something no matter what, I can’t just dump everything into the singular strong build and sit back and let it do the work for me. That’s what Sojourn feels like right now, just dump everything into the one build and it does everything for you.

The other oppressive thing Sojourn is doing is forcing you to play a weaker build to get a bunch of survival items. Usually, you play around one idea and survival items are a compliment to your build. Now, it feels like you have to take survival items as your main focus, therefore weakening your overall build and ensuring your team is the weaker team because you aren’t putting out your role’s potential.

On top of the best of 5 giving way less time to pivot builds and adapt to the enemy, this hero addition just feels awful for the overall enjoyment of the mode.

wait you are telling me enemy builds change how you build your own hero? like wasn’t that the whole idea behind it?

there’s a difference between “oh okay the enemy is diving us hard and I have a burst ability I can focus so I’ll build ability power to counter that and take some armour to help survive the initial dive” and “none of us are surviving more than 5 seconds when we peek soj so we all have to dump 3 item slots into armour now none of us can get past 20% weapon power”

Heroes influencing how you build your own build is understandable and expected.

The problem isn’t that Sojourn forces you to play different builds, like a survival build. It’s that you have to stack only survival builds for the optimistic chance of not being instantly deleted by her. You don’t get to engage with the mode because of her, especially on tank. You have to engage with her in a lobsided match-up in her favor.

I have not noticed. You know what I did notice? Permanent flight Freya. What is with that?!

I have noticed that.

And then noticed Cass will eat her alive for being in the air. :weary:

It is weird, in 3 hours of Stadium, I have had zero Cassidy on my team. Only played against one. Maybe console shenanigans?

I would assume so. I imagine Pharah is rampant?

I only played against her once. I forgot she was in the mode. It was with a Junkrat though. A Junkrat that ironically refused to swap with me in draft. And I have yet to play against one.

Now that you mention it, the hero diversity seems incredibly low…

Ah. That’s good. The less Pharah, the better.

The other issue Ihave is that Torb’s hammer build is such a throw and if I get one more on my team, I am going to start reporting them for throwing. Every match where we have a Torb and he does that, I see him with the least damage, 0 kills, and literally contributing nothing but enemy ult charge.

I mean, I’ve played hammer Torb successfully and it is potentially a good build… but it is niche, team comp dependent and requires very good judgement when engaging. It also requires your tank to not shake in their boots and actually engage to create space/pressure, so you can go in and clean up.

The issue with the build is that once you commit to it…you’re committed and if it doesn’t work for whatever reason, it is a literal throw because it’s hard to reverse.

The main problem is that hitscan is so ridiculously strong, easy to play and busted at the moment that Torb feels like throwing in general regardless of build.

If it’s a 1v1 you can fight Sojourn from longer range with Ashe or Soldier. If you are in a team fight then being closer is better because it can be disorienting. And by close I mean really close with Tracer, Reaper or Junkrat because they all have some form of movement to keep up with her slide. Basically fight her outside of her preferred mid-range area and force her into more awkward and extremely precise situations

I’ve had one hammer torb so far on the enemy team and it was easy to play around him once we knew what he was doing. It was pretty funny seeing him try to run into our backline every round and get immediately punished

So…like regular Sojourn then.

yeah, saw how poorly her normal release went and was like “that was fun let’s do it again”

Sojourn is really good because like too many of the dps they’ve added, they can just stack weapon power and ignore everything else. Who needs ability power or defense when you can quickly kill whatever is in your sight.

Sad part is that like many of the dps in Stadium, there’s probably some great utility builds hiding in her kit. It’s just that building into moar dmage fastur is enormously more effective and efficient.

I keep only getting those on my team and we keep losing every time. They get 0 kills and I end up outdamaging them on Mercy. :expressionless:

I am still confused as to why they added Soj and Freya so early on in stadium

one of the least problematic heroes, look at pharah, mercy, brig, zarya, hazard, sigma.

None of the dps feel close to as broken as the tanks/ support

We’re talking about Stadium. Other than Hazard, none of the characters you mentioned are problematic. There are tools to deal with them in Stadium unlike in standard play.
