After looking at some gameplay, I really came to like the “new” look.
Shields/Barriers are more transparent now and less obnoxious.
Also effects such as moiras primary heal and her ult seems to be way less “blurry” and don’t take away your vision.
Everything looks cleaner and more polished. It’s much easier on the eyes and you can much easier identify what is going on, even through barriers and when hell breaks lose in teamfights. Also predicting whether or not stuff like Firestrike is going to hit you are not is easier, since the texture and models are much closer to the actual hitbox.
All that on probably high settings. Turning stuff like Effect Detail on low will make it even cleaner.
Seems like a really good change to me. I also like the more “mature” look, but that’s a question of taste I guess. Some people probably like the more colorful and cartoony look.

I always thought some things in OW1 looked goofy so this is a nice change
Sometimes is it really hard to see what’s happening with all the visual effect in OW1, so I will gladly take a visual update any day.
feels like visual upgrade should be in both games, weird to charge people for it imo…
If they are going to eat a lot more fps, it doesn’t matter if it looks slightly better.
Aren’t you protesting blizz? I’m confused

Then I wonder what Junkrat’s nades will look like now…
If you look at the shading lighting and details it looks really cool
I’m very excited to see what the engine update brings. Maybe Doom won’t be so buggy anymore, wall climbing bugs are gone, jump-pads send at a consistent height, boops boop with more consistency or even vary based on enemy size, maybe sound effects for the enemy on the other side of the map don’t play like they’re right beside you anymore, placing mei’s ice wall, reaper’s teleport or baptiste’s ult will actually place where you aim or be more responsive to input.
So many possibilities
I am criticising them, like many more videogame companies like Bethesda, 2K/Gearbox.
However, I believe that you gotta be fair and also compliment things at the same time if a company does something right/good. I’m sceptical towards OW2 and as of now I’m not going to buy it since they don’t improve the (competitive) gameplay at all - but the visual changes seem good to me.
They apologized for the whole fiasko - but if that’s just PR or if they actually mean it? We’ll see. Since OW2 is not gonna launch for like… another year(?) there is plenty of time to observe whether or not Blizzard can get their sh*t back together, improve and make me want to buy another Blizzard game.
I hope so, because I genuinely love the game - but if not, I won’t be too sad about it, after disappointing recent years of handling the game and the company itself.
